I am returning to the forums today because I am sad I won't be able to go to fanime this year but seriously miss obsessing over it.

I'd like to see Megan Hollingshead.  Yes, another voice actor, but she has done quite a few popular english anime dubs and video games.  I've seen a few videos of her talking about voice acting and she seems interesting.

I'm thinking more and more that there will be a second season.  At first I wasn't sure since they changed the story a bit, but after watching ep. 25 again, I think they brought it back well enough to where it'd need to be for a second season.  Besides, there's so much more story to tell.

Not so depressed now that Pre-Reg is up!  Woke up this morning to find a lovely surprise while I was checking the site for updates.

I am wasting my time in class listening to a lecture I could teach the class more effectively and accurately while I could be home doing something productive like playing Eternal Sonata...  :(

I am suffering from grad school-itis and so wish I didn't have 2 years left.

I am wishing I had time to get in shape.  Would those Sketchers exercise shoes be horribly lame?

I am freezing cold right now... But I love it, nice and foggy.

I am wishing I was cold right now and missing the Bay Area, wondering why I decided to go to grad school in Los Angeles.

I was wondering if anyone has made or is planning 07 Ghost cosplay for 2010.  I am trying to come up with a way to make my own costumes for Teito, Frau, and Castor, but I haven't found any basic patterns to build off of and was hoping for some tips.  Thanks!

EDITED to add:  So far, I'm probably looking at doing the bishop white costumes, but it will really depend on what I can find to work with.

That's an awesome story.  2009 was my second year, but my first staying for more than one day and I felt much the same way you did at the end.  It's like reality sets in and you have to wait another year to enjoy it again.  Can't wait for 2010!

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Cosplay Changing Room!!
August 05, 2009, 07:13:17 AM
I don't know that it's the easiest solution for anyone, but I changed in and out of my cosplay at my car last year.  My hotel was about a 5 minute drive from downtown and if I had left, I would have lost my parking space.  The bathrooms were full already, so it seemed like the best solution.  I always wear something under my cosplay that is appropriate for when I take the top layer off.  Then for whatever else I take off, I crawl in my backseat and hide under a blanket while changing.  A car is also a great place to store your cosplay when not in use.  Again, I know it's not a solution for everyone and it can be a bit risky what with being possibly exposed in public, but as long as you can cover up while changing without exposing yourself, it works.

They have them in 99 Cent stores all over the Los Angeles Area and Ventura County right now.  Haven't checked what specific volumes, but they seemed to have a fairly wide variety to choose from.

I hope there's a season 2, but so far I haven't heard anything.  I can't imagine how they'd ever be able to wrap things up nicely in just a few more episodes.

I don't know what any of your characters except Temari look like, but I use a lot of Simplicity patterns.  They have a huge selection of costumes that are easy to modify to fit your needs.  I like Folkwear patterns, too, but I will say not to waste your money if you're looking for a hakama pattern from them.  I spent money to get it and the directions are actually not that great.  I found directions online that made much more sense and turned out better.

I have watched it since it first came out and LOVE it!  In terms of the priest with porn issue, there is one bishop that likes dirty magazines and everyone gives him a hard time with it, but that's about it.  It's a slow paced show, but considering the manga is not that old, it makes sense that the pace is slow so they don't get caught up too fast.  Frau is by far one of the best characters I have found in any anime I have seen to date and Teito Klein's journey is interesting.  I have chosen not to read the manga ahead of the anime because I like being surprised by what I see, but so far, this is definitely one of my favorite shows.  I was just thinking today of cosplaying Teito and Frau at the next fanime.  I'm hoping 07 Ghost becomes more mainstream in the United States because it's just awesome.

No one ever taught me to sew and I managed to pull it off this year.  Thing is, sewing your own costume is costly, so unless you have a job or some really good thrift stores in the area, good luck.  Anyway, you can teach yourself, but it takes patience.  I messed my costumes up multiple times and my boyfriend's costume I made him looks horrible but he's wearing it anyway.  The point is that you try, not that you succeed in doing everything perfectly.  Don't make your mom mad because you'll regret it as an adult, but teach yourself if you want to learn.  It's not that hard to buy a pattern, sew it, then alter it to meet your needs.

how did you learn to sew tho like online or a book or ya oh did you hand sew or machine

I bought myself some patterns that were similar to what I wanted to make from Joann's (McCall's and Simplicity have some decent basic Japanese clothing patterns and costumes) and some very cheap practice fabric and thread.  I started off doing it by hand, but then moved to a sewing machine after discovering it's nearly impossible to sew through a few layers of fabric by hand.  They have starter sewing machines that are pretty simple to use once you figure out how to put the thread in and they don't cost too much compared to some (I spent around $70 at Target).  For the parts I had to come up with on my own, it was a lot of trial and error.  Gloves/sleeves still give me a hard time to this day and I broke plenty of needles and ruined multiple yards of fabric to get it right.  Biggest thing is to start easy.  My first costume was Sheena from Tales of Symphonia and it wasn't bad, but then I tried to made Zelos from that game and it was horrible.  But just be patient.  I'm working on my second set of costumes ever now:  shinigami uniforms for Bleach characters, and it gets easier and easier as you learn.  Just don't give up when it gets frustrating because it's so worth it in the end.  I was so proud to wear my costume to Fanime, even though it wasn't perfect, because I made it.

Couldn't help as I was browsing the forum today noticing talk of last week's Bleach chapter.  I just had to say, when I read it, my reaction was a bit like the Nintendo 64 kid on YouTube (except that I'm much older, so it was a bit scary instead of cute).  Cannot wait to see where it's all going in the next few weeks/months.

I just had a thought with regards to Halloween costumes and cosplay.  Might be slightly off topic, but sometimes you can find things in hand me down stores like the Salvation Army or trendier second hand stores (many major cities and tourist/college towns have these) that look way better than the stuff you can spend a ton of money on in a Halloween store.  Before I started making costumes and before I started cosplaying, I found a ton of great items in second hand stores.  I think I made an entire gothic fairy costume from hand me downs one year and it only cost $15 as opposed to the $50 they were asking for in the Halloween store.  Just a thought for anyone who is thinking about Halloween costumes for this year already.  If you start looking soon enough and are willing to explore multiple stores, you can find everything you need for an awesome costume without having to sew or spend money on cheap, poorly made, and overpriced items.

I don't hate people who buy their costumes, but it seems like the easy way out.  To me, cosplay is my art.  For those of us that make our own costumes, it makes it that much harder to make them look authentic because the pre-made ones are made by machines and the detailing is typically perfect.  Making them by hand is much harder.  I made Tales of Symphonia costumes this last year and even though they weren't perfect and didn't look quite as "good" as the ones people bought in stores, I was proud because I put hard work into them.  It feels like a betrayal to the art to buy an entire costume.  I buy some difficult items like hats and swords.  I'm not opposed to buying something extremely difficult to make, as long as it's not passed off as someone's own work.

EDITED because I accidentally pushed the edit button and so I might as well...
