Forum Games / Combine a Video Game & an Anime!
June 03, 2008, 05:10:20 PM
The game is simple: You post a video game and an anime to combine, and then the next poster has to give the result. That person gives the next combination, and so fourth.

Let's get started!

Code Geass + Call of Duty 4

So I googled Fanime, and on the 4th search result, I found this:
http://www.fanimecruises.com/
Apparently it's like a convention on a cruise ship...thoughts?

I was filming the Taiko Dummers during Opening Ceremonies

You know the drill. Post your opinions on your hotel stay this year.

Despite some wait times on the elevators (but I didn't expect any waits when we checked in or checked out), I really liked the Marriott. 1/2 off Vallet with In-and-out Privillages is awesome, free internet is freakin' awesome (I was able to update my blog often), and the staff was top-notch. A ton of tip money to the bellhops and the people who got my car.

From the 10 Day Forecast (will post a more accurate forecast as the weekend gets closer):

Thursday: Sunny, 74°/51°
Friday: Partly Cloudy, 72°/52°
Saturday: Few Showers, 71°/51°
Sunday: Mostly Cloudy, 71°/50°
Monday: Partly Cloudy, 73°/50°

Looks like it'll be a different weekend next week compared to this week. I'll be glad to take those numbers over 100°+ up in Sac...

UPDATE #2: WTF? RAIN???

Gaming / Arcade Tourneys coming back this year?
April 13, 2008, 12:58:42 AM
I remember seeing last year that arcade tournaments a no-go. This year, PC gaming is no-go, so would that mean that arcade tourneys are making a comeback?

I'd love to see some ID or WMMT tourneys :)

...has the registration portion of the con rethought any of the processes in which to pick up your badge?

If you haven't seen already, Anime Boston over the weeknd had a 10 HOUR LINE to pick up badges (and the resulting apology). I just wonder if Fanime Reg is picking up on this to ensure that the line is as smooth as possible

I have a friend who is coming down and I wanted to buy her a costume before hand, but I think it would better if she picked it out herself at Fanime.

How many dealers sell cosplay costumes, and how much can I expect to cost?

I just realized this, but #2 I Wanna Take You to the Gay Bar has over 100k views on YouTube...onwards to 1M!

General Anime Chat / My Theory of Being "Spoiled"
March 12, 2008, 11:26:17 PM
I know that we all hate it when we get spoiled to something related to anime, manga, movies, video games, books, and just about everything else.

However, I feel that just someone simply telling you the spoiler - "so and so dies in the end and this happens at the end and the result is this" - is only half the battle.

In order to be truely spoiled, you must know how one gets to that spoiler. So even if you know what happens at the end of the Harry Potter series or Kanon 2006, ask yourself this: "Do I know how I get to that spoiler?" Because if you don't know the route, then that spoiler doesn't make sense until everything is linked together.
#63
Do you hate a particular character and/or series? Do you rant constantly to your friends? Do you think your "take" is the best? Then come on down to the first annual "FanimeCon Anime Smack-Off Session," an hour's worth of rants worthy of it's own panel.

There's one rule and one rule only...Have a take, don't suck, or you're gonna get run.

Come prepared with your best...if you dare.

...I haven't submitted this idea yet, but if this panel were to be run, would you go and would if work? I need some input before I pull the trigger...any would be helpful (and thanks in advance to everyone who does).

Registration / Anyone already set?
February 26, 2008, 04:29:54 PM
I just paid via PayPal (thank god for PayPal) for my weekend badge, despite the fact it's only February near March.

Is anyone else like myself already set in terms of buying your badge?

I know that the Weapons Policy for 2008 hasn't been released yet, but I can guess that it would not include airsoft weapons (which is a downer since most of my costumes have an airsoft part to it).

I look at photos from other conventions, especially those outside of California, and there I see weapons that can look real branished for pictures and whatnot.

Is it that California law is much different than other states or that FanimeCon is taking steps to ensure safety that these rules are most strict (or less strict)?

Gaming / FanimeCon Texas Hold'em Tourney?
February 08, 2008, 11:40:47 PM
I know that last year was the first year, and I had a blast with it!

Is there any plans to do this year again? If so, I'd like to see some real fealt tables and maybe a mock FanimeCon Texas Hold'em Tourney Champion ring ala WSOP :D

As you already know, the US government is planning on a $150 billion dollar Tax Rebate Plan that would put money back into people's pockets and, hopefully, back in the economy.

Read about it more here, won't go into further detail in this thread.

My question is: if you are qualified (yes, some people aren't qualified, like if you make under $3,000), will you be spending your $600+ (I say that because couples can receive $1,200 plus $300 more per child) on FanimeCon?

For me, I might go a bit overboard with Fanime since I know that this check is coming in...then again, I could save it and put it towards AX :)

Also, I'm hearing that they would come in June, while others are reporting that they would come in May...if May, please bring it before Fanime lol
#68
Maybe not for 2008, but for 2009 or 2010.

I think it would boost Fanime's resume as an anime convention if they decide to host the US Qualifier for the World Cosplay Summit. That would also mean that among the attendees would be world-class cosplayers.

Of course, with all the drama around the WCS and the US crowd, maybe Fanime doesn't want to pick up the job of restoring that US glory in the cosplay world.

So, would it work or not?
#69
Whatever AX does this year, we should take some of their ideas and make it better for us next year!

My wall mount sword stand that I bought the day I got back from Fanime finally came in today. I can finally display my FanimeCon katana!

I got one that could hold 3 swords/katanas and I have to get one more to make it look complete...I have the FanimeCon katana, and one that I bought at Sac-Anime.

I find it weird that I'm back on this subject, especially after looking at AX's website for the first time and looking at everything AX is doing, and trying to compare to what Fanime was in 2007.

AX is pulling out Midnight Tea, Otaku Parlimentary Debate, AX Idol, all the Japanese VAs from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (and all of them are being flown into the US just for AX), Premeir ticket purchasing, and a whole bunch of stuff for this year.

Can we even compare the two? Like what someone said, AX is manga while Fanime is dojinshi...
#72
I know I'll probably be volunteering (maybe staffing) next year, and this'll only be my 2nd Fanime (the first being this year)...

What about you? Are you looking forward to staffing or volunteering at FanimeCon 2008?
#73
I'm afraid this is going to get lost in the General Comments and Criticisms Thread, so I'll post it here.

I've been reading about the glomping issue, especially with this year. Stories about costumes ruined and so fourth because of glomping.

I got a good idea.

What I'd like to see is that Fanime issue their own "Yes, glomp me!" sticker/ribbon that you can stick on the bottom of your badge. When you go and register (either online or at the con), you can request one. That way, you can look at their badges to see if you they have already consented to be glomped. If they don't have the official sticker/ribbon given out by Fanime, you can't glomp them.
#74
Who was there to see that? And did you take part in it? (It was on Sunday at Noon at well...Stage Zero)

I was the first one up who was the Transformer for Party Quirks and used a cellphone in ancient Japan...LOL

For some odd reason, I had a hard time going to any panels because either I'd showed up and it was almost over (I went to the Console Wars panel about 15 minutes before it ended...I was trying to decide what side to sit on, and they told me to stay quiet, so I just left) or there was something else going on (the majority of the reason why I didn't attend was that I was at cosplay gatherings).
