Can I go as Ven? I got an Aqua with me.

Ah, you two must be who GingerAnne (Terra cosplayer) was telling me about. Nice cosplay. :)

On props like that, they usually just put one of those ties around it, which signals that you know the rules (don't hit people with your prop, etc.) They don't usually tie stuff to your costume. If you had a sword, they usually tie it so you can't open it.

Are you cosplaying a DS?

I'll try to make Lady's weapon in time, but if I can, I'll be there as DMC 3 or 4 Lady. ^-^

EDIT: Since we have a 4 Lady, I'll do 3. Any suggestions on her weapon? I mean, I don't NEED it, since people will recognize me, but still....and where's a good place to get single contacts for cheap that might have her colors?

I'm DarkFujin from cos.com

You don't have to change which one you want to do because of me. Honestly, I haven't even STARTED mine yet, and there's guarantee that I'll finish by Fanime. Even if I do finish, if you want to be DMC4 Lady, you should be DMC4 Lady.

Gaming / Re: 1 In 4 Video Gamers are Over 50
January 20, 2008, 09:37:50 AM
My mom is 48 and she has a DS which she absolutely LOVES. My stepdad is... 46? and he plays WoW, has a shitload of comics (American comics as well as manga), he comes to Fanime with me every year to watch anime and buy manga, and his office has some action figures and character plushies in it (Like Mewtwo and the such).

As for me, I've always wondered about my future as well. I'm almost 20, and I cosplay, watch anime, play games, all the same stuff you guys do. When I'm older, will I still go to conventions and cosplay? Or would that be creepy? When I have kids, will I stop doing all this stuff, or will I give my games and comics to my kids and have them be interested in it too? Who knows?

It's sort of iffy, I think. IF I recall correctly, you're not supposed to bring wooden weapons (ie bokken, shinai, etc.) to the convention, but some staff are more lenient and let it go anyway. To completely abide by the rules without complication is to either bring a light/harmless substitute like foam, plastic, etc, or not at all. I hard a hard time inquiring about weaponry, myself, and it proves to be quite troublesome. And even if you can bring them, some things are peacebonded to the point that they're pointless to bring altogether-- like prop guns sometimes are peacebonded to their holsters so you can't take them out to pose with. Sometimes, the silliest things get peacebonded, too... like people's signs, plushies, what have you.

I understand signs, since peacebonding is more of a way to make sure you understand the rules, and signs are frowned upon, but... plushies? How big/heavy were the plushies? Were people using them to attack others?

Last year I had my cheap plastic lightsabers peacebonded so many times. The first thing I did after waking up was go get them peacebonded because I wanted to be a good con-goer. But then the plastic ties fell off and I lost them. One of the bands was giving autographs, so my plan was to go buy their CD and get their autograph for my friend, and then head back to get them peacebonded. Well, on my way I was asked by three different people to get my lightsabers peacebonded. On my way out of the autograph room though (I don't remember where it was.. dealer's hall maybe?) One guy actually stopped me and peacebonded them for me because he had the stuff with him. Of course, I only needed the lightsabers peacebonded to show that I understand the rules, because they're the kind where if I hit someone with them they'll either break, bend, or retract. But I learned of something really cool that day... wandering emergency peacebonders.

I don't mean to threadjack or anything, but since we're talking about bringing weapons, are bokkens allowed (wooden swords) as a katana substitute? Or do weapons have to be plastic? Last year I needed a katana but brought a bokken instead, but I never took it out of my hotel room because I decided not to be that character after all. I know a lot of people make props out of wood, but I don't think they're usually meant for use like a bokken. So, are bokkens allowed?

ph1shf00d, I don't think I'm manly enough for Simon. lol. You've seen me before, I was the Xemnas at SacAnime who talked to you at your art table (DarkFujin from Cos.com). We can both be girly Gurren-Lagann characters together!

Pockystix... good luck. Don't get beat up.

Gaming / Re: スーパーロボット大戦!

I've never heard of スーパーロボット大戦 but I've heard of Super Robot Wars.

Maybe you could have at least said in the first post "the English name is....." or use a language everyone understands, instead of trying to impress us by how much of a weeaboo you are. Oh well. Too late now.

I've heard of the games, but the only one I've played was one on SNES. It was pretty cool though, and the other ones sound fun. I want to play more. :)

Even though everyone is pretty much over Pokemon (myself included) I'm still going to bring it. :P
I'll also bring EBA and Ouendan. I don't have Ouendan 2 yet, I have too much school work to do before getting addicted to those games all over again.

And don't forget about PictoChat, you guys!

Not true!  the new generation is bringing back the old generation of players!  I was at AX and although the con didn't sponsor a tournament some people pulled together an unofficial tourney.  It was fun to see how many people came (at least 50+). ^^

Sweet. I thought everyone got tired of Diamond.Pearl by now. XP Guess not. But then again, I get bored after beating the Elite Four. I know that in Diamond/Pearl there's so much more you can do after that point, but I got bored. lol. I'm still bringing my Diamond to Fanime though and hopefully battle some of you.

Nina, first of all, you've broken your wrist twice while skating... and those weren't even rollerblades. As for locking the wheels, you know when you skate and they're heavy and pull your ankles inward and totally kill you? That's what you'll be experiencing the entire convention. Platforms are lighter in weight and meant for walking around in. In-line skates are heavier and weighted completely differently than platforms because they're meant for skating around in.

Dealers Room / Re: Yaoi/Yuri Paddles?

So you'd get into a long speech about how Yaoi is an acronym describing how most doujinshi done for females have little point, as absolutely nothing happens in 99% of them?

As a description it's about stories revolving around homosexual males which includes sex. How the term is very often confused with "boys love/shounen ai" as a descriptor where, people believe anything that has any homosexual tendencies between two males is often called "yaoi" because people seem to not know any better? Also that it's a description for comics/games/visual media, over actual actions, and minus the sex, it's not really "yaoi"?

Or were you just going to say "Yaoi is homosexual actions between two males" like virtually everyone in the world thinks it is.

PS: Yaoi is not a verb, it's an adjective if you're going to use it correctly.

Then I could go on about how no one who uses "yuri" hasn't a damned clue what that means either. No, "yuri" is not the lesbianic form of yaoi, and is a representation word. But that would take another paragraph or two to explain.
Yay. Someone with common sense.

I personally don't understand the yaoi paddles either. Actually, I don't understand "I love yaoi" t-shirts, bags, and whatever other merchandise they're able to sell to underaged fangirls who shouldn't be buying porn in the first place. I just don't understand why people are proud that they like cartoon gay pornand they have to shout it at the world.

But then again, I don't understand why people like yaoi.

I always thought it would be fun to cosplay Makoto and see how many people tell me how annoying that character is. lol.

uncalled for.
lol wut?

no more uncalled for than jumping on someone and expecting them to carry you.

I agree with this statement. If she thinks it's okay to jump on me, I think it's okay to drop her. But no, seriously now, if she's going to jump on me and I don't want to carry her, I simply won't carry her. She's getting dropped one way or another... whether it's on purpose or accident.
