I know and have read all of the rules about cosplay weapons, but no not mention even the rules don't stae anything about cap guns. So does anyone know if plastic cap guns without caps will be allowed to cosplay with, or know someone I can at least contact to find out. The actual site is down now for some reason, so that's out of the question. Someone please help me in any way possible! Thanks!
Anything that makes a *clack* sound or literally shoots something, most likely, it's not allowed.
We are still working out all the details on the weapons policy (to comply with new California laws). We will be posting one that's ready to go. :) thanks for your patience.

Ok, thanks! :D
what if it's just a semi-realistic toy gun that makes lame sound effects when you press the trigger?

what if you paint that cap a different color? Sounds lame, but it's a possibility.
i would say just wait for the new site to come back online and look then. we still have ALOT of time to make what we need. and most likey and needs to be obvious to all (even stupid ppl...like me) that it is complety fake. so colored tip, lil to no sounds. and i would check it with the wepons ppl at fanime to cover me butt.
gwenny
What I want to know is what type of guns/toy guns or whatever (cap guns, rubber dart guns, fake prop guns, etc.) are allowed and which ones are not. Of course I get it checked at conops, but I just don't want to bring one that is not allowed and end up getting in trouble or kicked out or anything like that.
We will have a weapon's policy posted on the web site with enough time for you to prepare before the con to bring something safe. We promise. We are currently working out all the details, and there are several different points of view on this stuff! :) Please give us a little time. We have had new staff come on board (like me!) and we are all still negotiating. :)
However, please note that there will be slightly different rules for what's acceptable for the Masquerade contest because it's really a different thing. I know that a lot of people want to design the EXACT replica of something and want to get credit for that in Craftsmanship (which is a new bonus contest added onto Masquerade this year). So, we will be a little more flexible with more accurate (yet must still be fake!) weapons that you can bring to Craftmsanship judging and to the Masquerade itself-- but only to those contests and not to carry around the con iteself.
Anyway, I hope that helps and isn't too confusing. We will post an official policy as soon as one is available.
Thanks for your patience :D

P.S. I made this thread sticky so that people can post weapon's questions in this thread as it gets closer to the convention.
What about a crossbow that has no spring action (it is removed), no arrows, and is clearly harmless? Will it go through?
ehm, probably? i carried around a bow without arrows before...

If you mean like a crossbow gun, most likely not. Believe it or not, those are more dangerous than firearms. Now if it is a fake one (good luck finding a fake one), like a sponge dart/nerf one or something, probally so.
The site appears to be "down for renovation". Can anyone tell me what the policy on swords is? Is it like the CA RenFaire, where it's a 1/16th inch edge? Or no edge? Or no swords? Gah! Must know for costume planning...

You got it right in 3 my friend. The policy continues no metal blades of ANY kind. Although if you do foam with a metal (cylindrical pole) center that seems to be okay. What kind of sword are you thinking?
Ive been wondering on the same front. A model enthusiast friend of mine bought one of the chinese style wooden swords from Armorgeddon, sanded off the finish, primered and panted the blade a very realistic metallic, then gave it two clearcoat finsh to produce a VERY realistic looking, but con legal blade. Perhaps that could work for you?
I have these Kunai, but they are made of plastic and they're not full size, do you think they are ok?
they sell metal kunais at fanime. so oviously they are
well actually, now i have a full sized one, but its PVC plastic.
I have a full size metal one. Last year my friend and I were running around fanime with them. We didnt get in trouble xept me cuz i had a boken. which I got busted for like 2348u3240823942830 times x_x
I really hope you can use some kinda gun or weapon cuz im gonna be leon scott kennedy from Resident Evil 4/ bow chicka bow wow

;P Just no Airsoft guns or real ones of course~
Damn I guess that means those Katars I bought won't pass inspection.
They're solid Carbon Steel but no sharp edges, I planned on leaving them un-sharpened until after Fanime XD. Wanted to do a Hired Blade Outfit.... (a kinda mock up I had of a RO assassin before the game came out XD.. looks damn close too XD)
I was thinking of cosplaying Haku from Naruto and using double-pointed knitting needles as props...they're relatively blunt and I wouldn't be able to do much damage unless I really tried to stab them into someone...would those be okay?

T.T see? This is teh problem with people like us! we have so much weapons and such that we can;t bring ourselves to buy cardboard XD
Just joking somewhat XD...
But seriously O.o Anyone have any info if we could by some sort of loophole or mercy of teh Staff gods use UNSHARPENED Metal Props O.o ...
X.x cuz meh Katars are Carbon Steel, they are unsharpened so I'd have to really wanna stab someone to hurt them X.x
Good luck to you Haku Cosplayer X.x
I have just a plain katana I altered to resemble Inuyasha's and I ground down the edge compleltly flat so there's nothing sharp about it. Would this be acceptable?
What about metal swords that are fixed into their scabbards? If you can't draw it, it's just wood with a metal core.
Would this be acceptable?
If I tried to make one out of wood or something, it would probably be more dangerous...

I think we should have a Mod post here and help us out... personally I think that if the weapons adhear to specific requirements... the n it should be Okay X.x but we haven't heard anything from the Con-ops x.x
-Blades should have no sharp or cutting edge
-remain sheathed unless required for an activity (i.e. Cosplay Contests, pictures, ect.)
-Blades worn at Cosplay are responsibility of owner and as such must remain in their possession at al times
-Any Blades that go against these regulations should be removed and detained until the owner leaves the day or when said owner leaves the con.
-All Blades must be announced and registered (shown and approved) by Con-Ops
>.> These are my personal beliefs that should be the right rules O.o its mostly outta my own comon sense...
but I dunno what the Con-ops want X.x
If ya agree post for meh! maybe we can get a petition or something XD LMAO
kunais are ok tho. mwahaha. Well my philosophy is if they dont find out you have it its ok. so if you see con ops you can always hide it. unless you have a sword. then umm... well your screwed.

...
brilliant. now that that's posted, con ops will know for SURE that they'll have to search our bags
I too would like some kind of reply from the mods covering con ops, I ended up getting a wooden practice sword (thanks hellangel) instead of a real sakabato so I would be able to pose with it....and now I'm wondering if I'll even be able to bring it to the con with the rules I've seen on the front page.....I have never once seen kenshin without his sword
i've had my bokuto approved in previous years...
true but from what I'm seing on the front page I'm wondering weather or not they would alow any non-foam swords to the con this year
he-he, never mind
As the count-down on the main page reminds us... we only have 58 days till the con.... I'm starting to get nervous about getting my cosplays done on time, especially if I have to make con-safe weaponry. I've been checking the policy page frequently, but there are never any updates.
Can we please get some info??

Hey all,
I'm checking in to see what's up with the Weapon's Policy. I haven't seen it yet (that's not a document I write -- it's done bey secruity). Hopefully it will be up soon. I can't answer many questions yet because I don't know the answers, but obviously all REAL weapons are prohibited.
Thanks :D

Hey y'all. I'll be cosplaying as either a KH2 or AC Cloud and I recently bought a wooden buster sword that I'm wondering if I'll be able to bring with me to the con. Last year I had a wooden flag pole as a prop (with hard edges), so I was just wondering if a wooden sword with a "safe, blunt edge" would be allowed. Its about 53" with a 5" blade thats about 3/4 thick. I figured if I could get in with my wooden flag pole that the sword wouldn't be a problem. Only thing I wonder now is whether or not the policy changed from last year. Thanks.
I can tell you for sure that a Cloud-type wooden sword would definitely be allowed if you are a Masqueade contestant -- on the stage and for judging and for pictures afterwards.
As for carrying around the con -- info still to come (sorry! ;_; people are working hard on it...!)
o.k. so the style of "gun" i need for my costume only comes in airsoft. so i did a search and found a child's bb gun series of it. this thing can hardley shoot the bb's and if i leave the gun completly empty would that be alright? they're going to be staying in the holsters anyways, and they are clearly fake, they have the orange cap thingy too. so would those be o.k.? or do i still need to look for somthing else?
has there been any word on the weapons policy for the con? i know there is still pleanty of time, but some of the stuff needed for costumes needs to be ordered and shipped and that takes time, and much of that also needs personal alterations which takes more time, so i'm starting to get a little antsy about what will be approved and what won't
It's ALLLLMOST done. We are meeting this weekend to hammer out the last few things. I've actually seen the file now, and we do have people actively working to get it up as we type. I hope *crossing figers* to have it up by Sunday.
Thanks for your patience ^_^

thank you so much Marisa, i'll be looking out for it. for without the right weapon prop one of my costumes is just pretty much pointless. heh heh

Is this for the Masquerade or just for around the con? If it's for Masquerade, we have some special exceptions. The exceptions will be in the policy, but if you want to know in advance just PM me.
Thanks!
Marisa
no just around con. unfortunatly my friend decided to wait until the last minute to make the final decision on whether he was going to go or not, and my finanaces hinged on him. so, due to that, i have verry little time to put together some costumes so i'm going for simple yet awsome costumes. as it was i only JUST made pre-reg. i got in on the last day at like 10 p.m. thank the Manga Gods for the internet!
anyone know where/when the finished weapon's policy will be posted?
It's almost, but not quite done yet... sorry!
It will be posted both on the main page and off the Cosoplay Page.
Thanks!
Marisa
Here it is:

The Masquerade-specific clause will be posted later tonight. The Weapon's Policy should be up on the main FanimeCon web page sometime today.
Thanks!
