I am thankful that the Evangelion live action movie never happened, but instead we get a awesome retelling of the series as 4 movies animated by Gainax/Project Eva/Kharas.

I don't totally agree with your pick that Honey and Clover was one of the better live action remakes either.  It was surprisingly below part what I expected, given how good the animated version was.

And where on that list is the live action for Hana Kimi? Now *that* was a pretty entertaining live remake.

And as someone who has to do line control for all of these things, I will say that Lines = the Root of all evil/hate/ill-will towards humanity @ con.

lol yes they are.  we have signs in the front that tell people which direction to go whether they are registered or preregistered...but ppl don't always see them =(

if you are registered and you stood in the at-con registration line, sorry for not getting you out of there to the prereg line =( we tried to inform as many ppl as possible that if you registered online you shouldn't be in the at-con reg line, but i don't know if everyone heard that.

Things change last minute, some times their not fair... heck sometimes it doesnt even make sense. Things arent always in your control.

Well said.  I find those signs and the people that look at them kind of creepy, ESPECIALLY when they are eyeing people that they want hugs/glomps from.  I don't know how people don't find that unsettling.

If it makes you feel any better I just got my BA in graphic design and I work in a lab filing papers and data crunching. XD This of course definitely does not mean that I will stop all my unfinished projects or building my portfolio, but still....

Read up on the rules.

To be fair, for all the people who pre-registered early, the rules didn't come out until way after pre-registration.  We had to agree to the rules before they were made available to be read.  Some of the rules just weren't stated anywhere until we actually got to the con and saw the posters and program guides.  If someone went to the con via public transportation and skateboard, bike, or rollerblade, they would would have no way of knowing that skateboards, bikes, and rollerblades weren't allowed until after they paid for registration and read their program guide.  What do you expect them to do with their transportation at that point?  It's not reasonable for people to read up on the rules and plan ahead when the rules weren't available ahead of time.

In the case of the weapons policy, I believe that was already available on the website before the convention.  Though I will also admit, the "rules" that were supposed to be made available for members to read before they clicked "register" should have been made available as soon as registration was open >_> sigh.

That plus from my impression is that ARG/FanimeCon was meant to be an non-profit organization.

Thus any "additional" proceeds or donations would go towards Future Conventions... remember we have FanimeCon for AT LEAST another 3 years :)

I would understand if at-con money went to next year's convention...but doing the math I'm not sure how Fanime could pay for everything from pre-registered income alone.

Also, how many people came this year? I want to know how big it was compared to last year.

If you are to look into your convention guide, you'll notice quite a lot of advertisements.

Ad space is NOT given out for free, I'll note.

neither is dealers' space, AA space, etc (at least as far as i know). i'm pretty sure we also have sponsors or something that help with the funding for the convention.

the numbers that i am hearing are that we broke 13000 this year...there hasn't been a final official count yet (last i checked on the # of check-ins we had it was over 12000), but all we know is that there is a 30% growth from last year.  the funny part is that we checked in more people on friday than we did on saturday ;p but more people on friday picked up their pre-reg badge on friday, while more people checked into at-con on saturday.

I was epicly amazed at the rate in which lines improved and I only had to assign 4 rovers to at con reg duty =P

I was so happy, I weeped Friday night =)

the rate of the lines wouldn't have improved without some awesome rover staff ;p

If you early-register, can you pick your badge up on the Thursday before the con?

Answer: Yes. Don't forget to bring your government issued ID. School ID is not allowed.

Early-reg still gets you in the pre-reg line...no long at-con lines if you reg now

Thursday is actually for pre-registration pickup only.  Early registered members cannot pick up their badges on Thursday, but for all other days they can still get into the pre-registration line to pick up their badge.

Alright, I called up our head of reg and the official word is this:

Since the CA ID *is* a bit excessive your mom will have to come in and vouch for her.  Now, even though you are these girls' big brother you are NOT their legal guardian; a legal guardian is one who is written as the guardian of a person who is incapable of taking care of his or herself (most legal guardians fill out paperwork to become the guardian or "parent" of a person).

I hope that this solution won't impose too much on your mom =) if it conflicts with you somehow we will try and come up with another one, and if this policy changes we'll let you know.

Regardless of whether you leave the country or not a passport or state-issued ID is something everyone should have, and at the very least everyone can get an ID card.

Identification (ID) cards

DMV issues ID cards to persons of any age. The ID card looks like a driver license, but is used for identification purposes only. A regular ID card is valid for six years, and a senior citizen ID card is valid for 10 years. To qualify for a senior citizen ID card, you must be age 62 or older.

Seriously, no one really has excuses unless they're under 12 years old (at that point there should be a parent or legal guardian to vouch for them). And yes, it does make it easier to get your license when you're of age anyway, so you might as well get one.  It's not like it really takes that long, and it's only ~$25.

As for the adult/guardian thing, that's a little gray because it could be anywhere from 18 to 25.  I could always check, but most of the time it's better to have a parent vouching for a child, or just get the child an ID card too.  Like the previous poster said, it's a good investment.

You will have to register them separately, but there are two things you should know:

1) Regardless of registering them separately each will need some sort of government-issued photo ID to pick up their badges anyway, be it passport, state-issued ID, or something to that effect.

2) You can still pay for everyone together through Paypal or snail mail (money order/check).  If you do the latter be sure to write their badge numbers on the document so that we know which accounts to mark paid.

As for group registrations this has definitely caused more problems than it has solved.  While we understand that it is also an inconvenience for our members, please bear with us as we are trying to change other things with registration that will make badge pickup faster and more efficient.
