I'll be cosplaying Sassy Fran!

I have a few friends cosplaying from Kiki's Delivery Service and I was thinking of joining them as Osono this year!

I'm excited! I'll be cosplaying Rin!

Hi there! I hosted last year's AoT/SnK gathering and wasn't sure how much interest there would be for this year, it's nice to see there's still some interest in it!

That being said, my plans have already started to fill up and I'm not sure how able I am to host the gathering. At this point, if anyone would like to host it, please feel free to! I'd be glad to offer guidance if anyone is unsure on how to go about things.

I'd still possibly be willing to take it on if no one else can, but to be honest I wasn't planning on cosplaying from SnK this Fanime.

My friends and I were talking about an Animal Crossing group for next year so that may be a thing!

I definitely hope to do swap meet, host the snk gathering (and possibly other gatherings!), and host my panel again (2016 would be the 5th year I host it, wow!!)

Lessons learned from 2015:
- I need to make sure I'm getting adequate sleep during the con
- Carb-heavy foods will not sustain me, I need to make sure I'm eating enough protein as well
- Don't bring unfinished cosplays/other projects - just use the con time to enjoy the con!

I sold on Friday and briefly came in on Thursday to look around - I was intimidated by the line prior to opening but stuck around and was glad to get in shortly after opening. I didn't stick around much in part due to it being so crowded that day but everything seemed to be going well!

DURING SELLING:
- I had a few personal issues with my secondary seller hopping on board pretty late, but staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating when it came to that!
- I agree with the sentiment that there was a bit of a rush to set up before buyers came in, part of that was definitely due to me arriving a bit closer to opening time than expected though.
- As someone who does tend to bring a large volume of items (especially including what my secondary brought), I thought the size of the selling space was ample.
- The time change didn't bother me personally - I still had a fair amount to sell but both my secondary and I were feeling ready to head out around that time, and it seemed like the crowd had significantly died down anyway.
- The venue itself worked very nicely imo! I expected it to be more uncomfortable than it was but I had no issues sitting/standing on the floor. It was somewhat of a hike to get there but I feel like the distance would've been fairly similar for other venues. I sort of wish I'd thought to bring a larger cover for the floor because i wasn't expecting my space to be as big as it was but no complaints! I'd definitely be happy to sell in South Hall if it were the venue for 2016.

I personally wasn't able to take any, however, the official photographer mentioned he would be posting his pictures from the gathering - I'll post a link when I see them up!

A couple of announcements as we approach that final con stretch:

• The photo order will remain the same as in the first post, with additional ships to be added on if necessary / as time allows.
• Any additional requests will be fulfilled as time allows (If there is anything you want to discuss with me beforehand, let me know!)
• A few rules have been added to the third post of this thread, please look them over!
• In addition to announcing the photo groups verbally, we will also have signs as a visual cue to which photo groups will be up!
• The gathering will begin at 11am on Saturday, please plan to arrive promptly so we can kick things off as soon as possible, allowing for a swift and smooth running gathering. If you arrive late, there is a chance that you may miss your photo group, so please pay attention to the photo lineup in the first post.

All of these are really good tips!! Here are a couple more that I can think of:

Know the lowest price you'll realistically take - This sounds a little obvious, but at a previous swap meet I had a buyer negotiating with me and ended up selling a virtually new figure (I bought it and changed my mind) for less than the price I paid for it initially, oops! Since then I've made a list with all the items I'm selling, a list price, and the lowest amount I'd take for each one (It also doubles as a packing list which is really helping me make sure I'm bringing everything!)

Bring something to put between the floor and your items (and you)! - I was talking with one of my friends who had been selling the year artist alley was in South Hall and she mentioned things tend to be somewhat dirty/uncomfortable and recommended bringing a tarp or blanket to cover my space.

To answer the manga question, in the past I've priced mine roughly around half the cover price, and, again, depending on condition, generally go +/- $2 from there.

Also I have yet to use the PayPal reader but it took literally one day for it to arrive in the mail after ordering it online (although I know the tension of waiting for items to come in the mail before a con!)

Hopefully since South Hall is more spacious there'll be less of a line problem (since a lot of last year's line was due to Civic Auditorium being at capacity iirc?) but anything can happen.

The gathering has been officially confirmed!

There has been a slight change in time (reflected in the first post) - same day and location but 11am-12pm (half an hour earlier than I'd expected)

I'll be updating the thread with a bit more info in the coming weeks.

Just wanted to make a couple announcements!

First off, planning for this gathering is still going strong ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ I'll be posting up rules and other info in the coming months~

Secondly, (this is the part where you come in!) I want to get a poll of what ships are popular so I set one up in Google Docs for y'all to vote on (<-- that is the link), that way we can have the content that the most people want! yay!

Last year's gathering organizer, MaigoLily, has passed the baton to me for this year, and I will offer up my heart to make this an incredible gathering.

Yesterday (6/18), I was around downtown SJ and saw the lightrail with the Fanime ad roll by.
I'm unsure if it's intended to be a semi-permanent fixture or what but it was pretty cool.

Thanks for sharing, it's nice to know the situation and I'm glad that y'all stepped up to alleviate the problem.

I don't know if anyone is officially banned but I did have someone come up to me + the gathering organizer and demand we announce that "Psycho Donuts hates Homestucks" with no explanation of why (we refused because it's not really our place to say that), and also I've seen a couple downtown meetups that have explicitly said to not go there because of the reputation issues.

I think there are an unusually high proportion of younger cosplayers in the Homestuck fandom, and while that's not a problem on its own, it does become an issue when you're talking about large groups of people who are not accustomed to unwritten rules regarding courtesy and the like.
I don't know, I don't want to get into this too much and sound like I'm being all "RAARR RARRR HULK SMASH YOUNG PEOPLE" but I do kind of wish there was a way to sit everyone down and lay down some ground rules or something? idk

I'm kind of an ex-Homestuck (just due to disinterest in the material, nothing dramatic), and I helped the group that stepped up to run the gathering in place of Jaidin, and I have to say everyone was really well-behaved and it ran so much more smoothly than I ever could've dreamed or expected! (pat yourself on the back you did good)

I did hear that Psycho Donuts banned(?) Homestuck cosplayers and I don't know the reasoning behind it but :/

I only heard of the tumblr hatetrain. I am going to fact check the sexual assault claims. If they havent taken to court or filed police reports, I just can't believe the claims. I want my proof to be more sturdy than words that fall flat. until then, I'll work with you. bare with me until i find evidence.

I'm generally skeptical of things due to the nature of information on the internet, but based on a trusted close friend's words (as well as my own experience with Jaidin's personality), I don't find the sexual assault claims hard to believe.
Just based on my own experience, she's been aggressively flirty with me - and while it never culminated into anything physical, it's definitely in line with the behavior of rapists.

I also heard that someone filed a restraining order on her so that may be out there, but that's just word of mouth so I can't verify its validity.
