The San Jose public library has a decent collection of anime, and is ever expanding (cuz of me). Best of all, it's free (but late fees will kill ya). There also this place in Berryessa (California Video) with a great collection of imported anime.

I have dial-up so I can't download anime at all. But I want to know, in case I get dsl in the future, where can you download the anime from?!?!

I can't just depend on my friend at school for them all the time!

<pops-up from nowhere, hold up a portable dvd player>

For those who don't know what he's talking about:

{scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (my favorite non-anime movie)}

Sir Launcelot: Have we got bows?

King Arthur: No.

Launcealot: We have the Holy Hand Grenade.

Arthur: Yes, of course! The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! 'Tis one of the sacred relics Brother Maynard carries with him! Brother Maynard! Bring up the Holy Hand Grenade!

mmm....Direct Connect its the bestist and all that I use for my anime. But not just normal Direct Connect at http://www.neo-modus.com but i upgrade to BCDC++ at http://utrum.dyndns.org:8000/  its sooo much better like being in more than one hub without opening another instance of NMDC and multi hub search it also has status bars to show you how complete the download is and it can also auto search for more downloads if the person you are downloading a file from logs off ^.^

two of my fav hubs hub1.crazycatgirl.com and animecorner.noip.org mmm...so much anime in them....

Direct Connect is just jim dandy and fine for your anime downloading needs, but if you want to get more, quicker, I suggest Streamload (http://streamload.com/).  Sure, there's a monthly fee, but when you see your downloads going your max stable download speed consistently, it'll bring a tear to your eye.  In my case, that'd be about 150k/s.  For the average episode, that equates to maybe 15-17 minutes of download time.

For bit torrent, go to http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html.

To find irc, go to //www.mirc.com.

BT's self-explanitory, but irc (a.k.a. mirc) can be confusing.

Speaking of Sam Goody and Suncoast...they're run by the same company. And their corporate press releases have stated that at least 100 Sam Goody and Suncoast outlets are being closed down in a round of cutbacks. So if your local Suncoast closes, don't panic. The company hasn't gone under...just find another Suncoast in another mall. Sam Goody/Suncoast is basically just cutting out what hasn't been making them money.

I buy the majority of my anime at voe.com.. But lately I have been buying VCDS. I know, I'm a bad soul, but it's really convient and the quality isn't so bad. If I really, really do enjoy the series, I will buy the real thing. I really did enjoy my Gundam SEED vcds and hope to get that series on DVD whenever it is released.

But also rent from video stores when they do have it! ^^

Well, I mostly buy HK DVD's, of licensed and unlicensed stuff. There are some times when I just need/want to get the R1's, though. And I have a very large collection of those, from the times when I didn't know there was any other way to get anime, legal or not - and in most cases, there /wasn't/ any other way to get the stuff I wanted anyway. Fansubs were hard to come by, digisubs were nonexistent, and all the HK sets sucked arse.

Online, I visit Animesuki to get my torrent files. If there's a licensed show I want, I usually don't download it.

Gonna have to go Sherlock Hound on that sonuvamutha, and go searchin... >_>

I get anime 4 ways:
1. buy online (legal these days - there was a time I couldn't tell the difference - but now all R1 for me)
2. download from animesuki.com (haven't recently)
3. rent at the local video store, which has a decent selection, about half vhs, some of which is subbed
4. buy at local stores (sometimes an advantage b/c no shipping and handling)

only hk pirate I own is the studio ghibli boxset. I may buy some of the DVDs legitimately (notably Porco Rosso when it's released in mArch according to nausicaa.net).

I finally found a Target store in my area that has an anime section (the Puyallup location, at South Hill Mall). It's not much, but it's a lot for a big-box American retailer. And the prices are decent.

Yet I ended up buying the DVD of the "CLERKS" animated series there anyway. XD

Still wouldn't go there for all my anime needs, though.

Well if u guys are talking about legit anime... ( which i hope guys and gals are.... )

I actually get them from a variety of place...

I get the majority from my own work... ( love getting perks like that )
not only do i special order them and get them before street Date i get a decent discount on them too... woo hoo ^_^

remember, as mentioned before... my room literally looks like an anime/video game store... if u dont believe me... I'll have to post pics of my room someday... ( now if i could only figure out how to work my digicam... =P )

other than my work... I do sometimes ranomdly find a decent deal in retail shopes like Best Buy, Fry's and sometimes during a blue moon special at Target or even Walmart ... unbeliveable but it happened at least once...

and even tho i havent done it in ages... theres TONS of anime websites all over the place... pick up a NEW-TYPE magazine and im sure you'll see an add or three...

man, i sounds like a commercial... and now back to ur scheduled bulliten board chat...

Title: Mmmm...rightstuf sales, we love you!
Post by: AMKestrel on June 13, 2004, 12:34:49 PM
Just did a quick count on the shelves in the living room; bottom shelf has
55 DVDs across, there's six shelves mostly full, so call it nearly 300 DVDs
most of which are from rightstuf sales.  In general, I have a $10 limit per
DVD, or $2.50 per episode rule to make sure we don't spend too much;
it's worked out pretty well, because it means we wait for the special
sales at rightstuf.com and get series for reasonable prices.   Generally,
when possible we get box sets that fit within that price requirement, as
we like the convenience of the box sets, as well as having the pretty
boxes is nice.  :)

Embarrassingly enough, we purchased our first DVD box set more than
a year before having any kind of DVD player to play it on.  When we
got our PS2, we popped the first disk in, and discovered it wasn't the
series we thought it was!  ^_^;;  Learned quickly the distinction between
"Record of Lodoss War" and "Record of Lodoss War TV"  :D

*sigh*  now if only I could learn to take more time away from work to
actually watch the DVDs.   Most are still shrink wrapped and unopened.  :(

I get most of mine from Japantown in Frisco, Japan video usually has lots of early releases, dope but if Im a Jonesin and I need a fix Ill break down and stab my wallet in the heart by going to Suncoast although theyve gradually become more reasonable with their pricing. Now and again Ill rape animenation.com
