PATCH GIVEAWAY! In honor of the tenth anniversary of the Black & White Ball we are giving away 2016 velcro patches! And yes, we are shamelessly plugging various events and programs this way!

Here's what the patch looks like:

FIRST GIVEAWAY! On Friday at 4PM @ Stage Zero, the Black & White Ball will be putting on the Infinite Dance Challenge! Want to see various Black & White Ball staff members perform all sorts of varied and interesting dance games so that audience members can win secret prizes? This is your jam!

SECOND PATCH GIVEAWAY! On Saturday at 9AM (yeah, we know it's early) Black & White Ball staff will be in attendance for the "Shall We Dance?" panel in Panel Room 3 put on by first time attendee Trickssi! What's the panel about? In Trickssi's words -

"The panel "Shall We Dance" will cover the 1996 film of the same name, the manga "Welcome to the Ballroom," the game "Princess Debut," what pro ballroom is like behind the scenes, what social dance is like, and the start of some etiquette and tips, if there's time."

Hey, sounds like our kind of panel! (^_-)

THIRD PATCH GIVEAWAY! The Infinite Dance Challenge is not the only time that the Black & White Ball will be at Stage Zero! We will also be handing out patches during the Prop Challenges on Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 3pm! The Prop Challenges are smaller scale versions of the Infinite Dance Challenge where the staff will dance with various props and have silly fun in the process!
And we're still not done with Stage Zero! We will be also performing straight dance demos at 11am on both Saturday and Sunday! It's less silly than the Challenges, but still just as fun! No patches will be given out during the 11am performances.

Stay tuned for our last giveaway!
For those of you who were able to attend (or not able to attend, as the case may be) to the Black & White Ball, until the main feedback thread is set up for FanimeCon, please email [email protected] with the subject "Black & White Ball Feedback" to ensure your confidentiality.  We will not read anything posted as a response here or in a thread other than the main FanimeCon feedback thread on the forums.  We would like information from you about these topics.

A)  If you ran into an issue at the Ball or the front door (i.e. dress code) that could involve a staffer -

     1)  Did you interact with a staffer(s)?
     2)  Are you able to describe who the staffer(s) were if the answer to 1) is a yes?
     3)  If the situation did not resolve in your favor (i.e. removal or denied entry) was the reason understandable?
     4)  Did you feel that you were treated well by the staff?
     5)  Were you able to find a staffer if you needed to?
B)  Dress code
     1)  Did you read the dress code?  Did you understand the dress code fully?
     2)  If you had any questions about the dress code, did you email [email protected] or post to the forums or Facebook?  Did you get an answer?  Did you understand the answer?  If you did not understand the answer, did you ask a staffer?  Were you able to get an answer that you understood?

C)  Entry into the Ball

     1)  Were you stressed out by the wait in line?
     2)  If so, why?  What would help you ease your stress?

D)  General

     1)  Did you enjoy the music?  Why or why not?  Did you know which dance style to use for what song (even if you didn't know the style)?
     2)  Were you able to attend any lessons?  If so, did you enjoy them?  Did you like or dislike your instructors?  Did you like or dislike any styles that were being taught?  Did you have any favorites if you took more than one lesson?  What would you like to see in the lessons (different dance styles, etc.)?
     3)  Did you like the venue?  Did you like the dance floor?  Did you like the atmosphere?  Why or why not?
     4)  Is there anything else that you like or dislike?  What do you suggest to improve the Ball?

Quick post since we always run into errors:

Friday night lesson @ 8pm:  West Coast Swing
Friday night lesson @ 9pm:  Argentine Tango

But of course we want you to take both ;).

There will be NO coat check offered at the Ball itself.  Please do NOT put stuff behind the black curtains or you will be spending way too much time running around the Ball when we want you to be dancing.

We had to change the display format for the Ball this year.  Let us know what you think?
Big Event Showcase / Black & White Ball venue poll
June 01, 2012, 08:05:20 AM
Just for fun!
Since the overwhelming majority of unhappiness concerning the Ball this year centered around the Dress Code, I have the joy of taking on the task of overhauling it.  :-\  So, I'm posting here to solicit some help from you the attendee.  Let's set up some of the goals -

1)  The Code has to be specific enough such that the Ball Staff, the Rovers and the attendees are all able to understand the contents and apply them.
2)  The Code maintains the semi-formal atmosphere of the Ball.  So, no "let's ban the Dress Code" :-P.
3)  The Code reduces the risk of injury to the ConGoer during the course of the Ball.
4)  The Code protects those assets to the Ball required for continued production of the Ball (that would be mainly the dance floor).
5)  The Code is flexible enough to handle unforeseen situations.

For the record, this year's code went haywire on items 1 and 5.  3 was a moderate success, and 4 was added after seeing how nice and shiny the new floor is and the realization that we have it for the next two years.

Your quest is to come up with a Code that can fulfill the five goals as fully as possible.  You may ask as many questions as you like from me (and other staffers will appear once in a while to weigh in).

Here's this year's code as a starting point:
The East Coast Swing class for Friday night is actually from 9-10pm.

Private lessons will be from 10-11pm on Friday night and 9-10pm on Saturday night.

Since it seems we're going to have night ballroom classes, it only remains to figure out what kind of class structure to give it.  Assuming that there aren't going to be as many attendees/instructors available due to evening plans and the A/V arrangements are still up in the air, the thought is to have small groups rather than large group classes.  As always, your voice is appreciated.
Big Event Showcase / Events during the B&W Ball.

So the purpose of this poll is to gauge what stuff might be interesting to people.  Any or all of these may put in an appearance at the ball.
There appeared to be some interest for night ballroom classes, so here's your chance to make your voice heard.
Big Event Showcase / Social Dance Resources Thread

This was suggested in one of the other B&W Ball threads, so of course I decided to co-opt it.  Basically the intent is to provide links to places to dance/dance videos/etiquette etc. for those people who would like to get a jump on preparing for the B&W Ball.  Suggestions are welcome.

West Coast Swing: (First Saturday of the month, but just take a look at the calendar to see all the possible dances you can go to.  Recommend highly WnY and Two Left Feet, especially 2LF on Fridays.)
Whether you be an experienced ballroom competitor, total novice or occasional dabbler in the partnered dance, what dances would you want to see taught for the 2010 Black & White Ball?
