For those of you that are trying to sneak in extra bodies to your room or got away with it this past con, you are only doing a ruining it for all the honest con goers out there.

The reason why the hotel rates are as low as they are is because the rooms were sold based on the room type and not the number of people in the rooms as in past years. If you want to have the hotel rates go up and be charged based on "sneaking" in more than 4 to a room, keep it up. You have no one to blame but yourself.

I should also mention that there were rooms found with more than 4 people in them. The hotel's response? They enforced the max. occupancy rule and the guests 'had' to reserve a 2nd room or be kicked out.

Not only are you jeopardizing the low rates, you are also putting a risk on the lives of your friends. In the event there is a real fire, earthquake or emergency in a hotel and you have packed in more than 4 people to a room, you are only asking for trouble.

Quote from: "narutofan17"Me and my friend ae registered at the Marriot for Friday and Saturday but we just decided last minute that we wanted to stay another night and I was wondering if that would be possible.

ps: Sorry for posting this in the reg section. I'm half asleep. XD

If you are able to email me your confirmation number or the name your reservation is under by Monday (5/21) morning, I can make this change. If you called the hotel directly, they may quote you a higher rate.

Email to: [email protected]

Thanks!

Quote from: "Vanessa"I tipped the maids around 50.00 the first night and was in heaven! Those ladies came before going to sleep and cleaned up, straighen out all our stuff, bought in new towels at least 3 times a day, I swear we were the cleanest people at the con with everyone taking baths around 3 times a day. The ladies even helped us carry out our stuff to our car...

Good times. Great housekeeping. Sadly the didn't speak much english, but they went beyond the call of duty.
$50!? Heck, I'd go beyond the call of duty for that too!! (;

P.S. Leroy, do you know if it's true that you can request a later check-out time without being charged extra?

Yes. Depending on the hotels availability and flexibility, it is possible to get a later check out time without a late check out fee. During busy times, some hotels may not honor late check out because they might need to have housekeeping go in and clean the room for the next guest. If a hotel is able to extend a late check out, it is usually anywhere from 1-2 hours.

Quote from: "Lisu"Overall it was good (7th floor, yay).  Kind of lonely since it was only my brother and I sleeping (but a lot of times just me) in a room with two twin beds. I'd be nice to see how rooming with more people is.
Awesome showers, good and quick house keeping, mini fridge for milk and cold cuts, great beds (and for some reason there was a porno under one before we even got there)

The only bad things were the elevators, not people but the pressure, and losing a fanime shirt and just found out also my teeth retainer.  Does anyone know if we can call or do anything about losing stuff like this?

If you are missing any items or left any behind accidentally at the hotel, please do call them. Housekeeping does keep track and a log of items found and if they have your item, they will send them back to the rightful owners. But the cost of shipping is usually charged to the person that lost or left the item.

OUCH! I thought I had it bad, (17th floor and two hurting ankles for me) but wow, man 25th floor.

No kidding. It wouldn't been bad if I saw angels and Jesus there, but no luck. I will request next year to put me in the lower floor. Oh yea, I asked for a rollaway and they told me it was free when I made the reservation online. When I checked in and asked for the rollaway, they told me it was $10 extra. What gives?

Hi there. I just took a look at your online reservation and do not see any request for a roll away bed noted on your reservation. Also, if you made your reservation online, when did you speak to someone about a rollaway bed? Was this person at FanimeCon Housing or at the hotel?

At the Marriott, king bedded rooms with a rollaway and high speed internet combined were sold starting at $115 sgl/dbl occupancy, so I'm a little perplexed to why someone told you that a rollaway was free when the rate was already pre-established.

If you could provide further info, that would be great. Either on here or to: [email protected].

Thank you and I'm sorry that you were given the wrong information.

Quote from: "Emerge"i shouldnt complain because i wasnt the one who reserved the room (altough i did pitch in a few more dollars than my roomies), but here we go.

hilton got our reservation wrong, trying to give us two rooms w/double beds instead of one. we fixed it up, but we ended up having to stay on a smoking floor, which made sleeping a bit of a problem.

and...yea. the all-too-well-known elevator problems, but thats a given.

the tv's didnt have any a/v outlets, nullifying the use of my roomie's ps2.

everything else was good, though.

Hi there, may I ask you to elaborate a little more on your situation?
I'm trying to figure out how the hotel got your reservation wrong. Were two different reservations made for you? If so, did you make one and your roommate make another one? Or did you each make your own reservation and decide at check in that you wanted to share one room?
Please email me at: [email protected] with your last names and confirmation number(s) so that I can look into this.

Thank you! Leroy

Quote from: "Tuplica"I got transferred to a king-sized bed room instead of two doubles... I didn't really care, since I was the only one there, but I can imagine that given they sold out, anyone who was supposed to have a king-sized and got stuck with something else is probably pissed off about it.  I'm probably not the only one it happened to, either.  I would've made a fuss, but as I said, it wasn't a big deal to me and I just wanted to crash someplace without waiting around...

Hi there, I would like to follow up with your situation. Can you let me know what hotel you had a reservation for? Also, when you say that you got transferred to a king instead of a dbl/dbl...was this told to you by the front desk at check in? Were you given a king room because the dbl/dbl wasn't ready when you checked in? And if you can provide your confirmation number so that I can look up your reservation, that would be great as well. Should you wish to discuss this off the forum, please feel free to email me at: [email protected]. Thank you.

Quote from: "FanFicGuru"I had a wonderful experience at the Marriott, just like I did last year.

Our room was amazing. We were in a corner room on the 19th floor, which made me VERY happy. The view was amazing and there was plenty of room for all of us.

My roommates were all really cool and considerate, no loud entries at 3 AM, no drama, no craziness. Just a ton of fun.

The hotel was very helpful, even though they had no blankets left, they did send us some extra sheets, and that helped us out.

Next year:

1) I'm getting a junior suite with a sofa
2) I'm only having 2 roommates.
3) I want to order for a mini fridge.

that's about it. I had a great stay.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm glad to hear that your stay was a nice one but am sorry to hear that the hotel ran out of blankets. I will bring this up with them and see if this is something that can be prevented next year.

As for your requests for next year, I do want to bring to everyone's attention that the Marriott only carries a limited number of mini fridges and they are reserved for those that need it for medical uses.  I'm sorry to be the one to give the bad news on mini fridge requests but hope that everyone understands.

Thanks again.

Hi All.

Time once again to find out what worked & didn't work, pro's & con's and your overall satisfaction or dissatisfaction of the hotel and/or the process of your hotel stay.

Marriott: 3pm check in, 12pm check out / $12.50 valet parking only with in/out privileges (normally $25)

Hilton: 4pm check in, 12pm check out / $10 self parking per night (normally $15 for self parking). Both options come with in/out privileges. From what I understand, there is a special rate of $10 daily parking at the convention center during FanimeCon. The Hilton does have Valet parking available at higher rate.

Crowne Plaza: 3pm check in, 12pm check out / $7 self parking (normally $14). Please check with hotel regarding in/out privileges.

Sainte Claire: 3pm check in, 12pm check out / $13 valet parking only with in/out privileges (normally $21)

Fairmont: 3pm check in, 12pm check out / $26 valet parking only with in/out privileges

Additional parking info for downtown San Jose can be found here: http://www.sjdowntownparking.com/parking_map.php (note that rates/info listed may not be 100% current)

If you are arriving earlier than the listed check in time, you can still check in, but your room may not be ready. If this is the case, the hotel can store your belongings until the room is ready to be occupied.

On your check out date, if you wish to store your belongings until you are ready to leave, the hotels will also be able to provide storage services.

If you are arriving after the listed check in time, your reservation will still be held (hence the credit card given to guarantee your reservation). There are no penalties for late arrivals nor does the front desk close at any time. There is always someone at the front desk to check you in 24/7.

If you do not show up on your reserved check in date, you will be charged a fee of one night's room and tax. Those that may check in after midnight, please call the hotel and let them know. If you don't, your reservation may be subject to cancellation with a fee of one night's room and tax.

Hope this helps and have a great time!

Hotel and Facilities / Late Check-in penalty?
May 03, 2006, 05:04:31 PM
There are no penalties for late check in.

If you have a reservation and do not show up at all, then the hotel will charge you a penalty of 1 night's room and tax.

If you are planning on checking in past 10 PM, it is advised that you do call the hotel on the same day to let them know that you will be arriving late.

For those that are still looking for hotel rooms:

Crowne Plaza
20 double bedded rooms have been added at the Crowne Plaza
10 king bedded rooms have been added at the Crowne Plaza

San Jose Hilton
12 king bedded rooms have been added at the Hilton
8 double bedded "Towers-level" rooms have been added at the Hilton.

(Please note that the Towers-level rooms are a little more expensive because Towers-level guests have access to the private towers lounge offering separate registration, complimentary breakfast and evening refreshments. Rates are: $119 for 1 or 2 ppl, $129 for 3 ppl and $139 for 4 ppl)

There's no telling how long these rooms will stay available, so if you need a hotel room, it's strongly advised to book now while we got them.
#14
Hi Craige,

The availability for the Crowne Plaza is off on your post. The availability should read:
1 rm on Thurs-5/25; 4 on Fri; 11 on Sat; 13 on Sun; and 3 on Mon.

Also, the St Claire has informed me that they do not have anymore dbl/dbls to add for the convention.

Those of you who are looking or need to book a dbl/dbl - please act quickly and do so at the Crowne Plaza before they are all gone.

King bedded rooms are still available at the Marriott and a limited number at the Hilton.

Some of you are missing the whole point here. Instead of getting angry and pissed off that some of special requests like non-smoking, smoking, refrigerators, low floor, high floor, roll away beds, etc aren't honored by the hotel, go look up the meaning of the word "REQUEST".

Better yet, here it is from Websters Online Dictionary:

Request
1 : the act or an instance of asking for something
2 : something asked for
3 : the state of being sought after

No where do I see that when you request something, that you are 100% guaranteed for it. Hotels make every effort in accommodating requests, but sometimes, it's not possible to honor every request out there. All special requests are subject to the availability of the hotel at the time of check in.

Unfortunately, the king vs double/double scenario was a different story. In most cases, bed types like 1 or 2 beds are a request. For Fanimecon, because a majority of con-goers need 2 bedded rooms, there was a set limit of how many 1 and 2 bedded rooms were available to be reserved. Your bed type should have been honored as we provided to the hotel the exact amount of 2 bedded reservations as they gave us in 2 bedded rooms.

Again, I will stress that if anyone has troubles getting the bed type they reserved, please get a hold of me at the con.  The office for Con-Operations will have a way to get in touch with me.

Credit cards, deposits and payments - While we don't take any deposits or holds on your credit card when you reserve a room, it is a different story when you physically check into the hotel. There is a difference when asking if there is a "deposit for a reservation" and a "deposit when you check in". When you check in, you are required to give them some form of payment for your stay. If by credit card, they will put a hold on your card. This is the hotel's protection that you will not just "check out" of the hotel without paying. The amount of the credit card hold depends on the number of nights, number of rooms if one is checking in for more than 1 room, taxes and incidental charges like telephone calls, parking, pay per view movies, room service, etc. So if one is staying for 2 nights @ $99 a night, the hotel will most likely put a hold of about $250-$300 for this stay.

I'm very sorry this happened to you. I've worked in a hotel for 5 years and have been working on conference management with numerous hotels for the past 6 years. I travel quite a bit and have never had any incidents with housekeeping. It's highly unusual that housekeeping would steal, but then again, there's always a bad apple somewhere. I'm wondering if housekeeping might have thrown it away accidentally? Which is no excuse either.

However, I would not let this incident discourage you from feeling safe to leave your things out.  If this was a sleazy motel..then yes, I wouldn't feel safe to leave my things either...but this is a national chain hotel and has a high reputation. Again, I'm sorry that this happened to you and that offering a free dessert does not compensate for your losses. My advice if this should ever happen again to you is to speak to a manager and demand that they either give you a credit off your room bill or have them reimburse you for your loss.

If you have valuables like money or jewelry, please use the safe in the room or at the front desk if there isn't one in the room.

Quote from: "DayDreamerNessa"my big issue is that my bf and his friend CJ got there makeup stolen by the cleaning ladies!

now im kinda iffy about the marriott because like yeah it may be makeup this year, but what about next year, if this happens again, would they steal something else?

oh and the makeup we bought wasn't cheap =X it really disappointed me, i mean we were very nice to the ladies, so why the hell would they steal from us?!?!.... they had comfy beds, and refilled the towels so thats good, i could care less if they straightened up our rooms, there gonna be messy no matter what lol

I'm sorry, but how sure are you that they stole the makeup? I have dealt with hundreds of hotels and it is extremely rare that I hear of housekeeping 'stealing'. Did you report this to the front desk or to the housekeeping supervisor when you noticed that the make up was missing? Could it have been accidentally thrown away or misplaced somewhere else?

Has anyone else had this similar experience at the Marriott San Jose? If so, please step up.

If you have to walk to your destination while a creepy guy follows you, would you rather be at the stairs or inside a small elevator with no place to escape?

LMAO...tell me about it....I was along in the elevator at 5 am with this stalker looking guy...who pressed all the buttons so the elevator would stop at every floor.  WTF...then he got off on my same floor and just sat there...so I pretended I was on the wrong floor and went to another floor..LoL

Should have taken the stairs..LoL

Not cool! Suggestion for next time something like this is to get right back off the elevator and let the person ride alone in the elevator. You should have also reported this to the front desk so that they can send security to escort this guy out...especially if he wasn't a registered guest. It's for your and everyone else's safety.

But if you're in the stairs, he can still follow you. If you get into an elevator and he follows you in, you can still get out and call for help. Who's going to hear you if you're in the stairwell? In any case, if you get followed by a creep...let others know. Go to the front desk or tell a staffer next time.

umm... tha tis about it. XD

My suggestion for you next year is stop by ConOps or Rovers and ask for an escort up the stairs.  Personally, I would have done it, except I'm too old, too fat, too balding and too blind to be walking up 14 flights of stairs.

:^o

Craige...

Okay...this maybe a dumb question...but why would you be walking up the stairs to your room instead of using the elevator?

Elevator takes forever and since a lot of the staff rooms were on the lower floors it was much faster. Besides one of the elevators smelled like Otaku Spirit and booze  (unless that was just puke/pee) :(.

But the elevators weren't that slow after midnight were they? The smell? Well...you got a point there.
