Staff & Volunteers / Staff Roomates Thread
March 22, 2009, 07:33:57 PM
Hey there, I'm trying to look for people that are on staff but don't yet have a place to stay. me and a friend are grouping togeather and can help split the costs but I've been told I need atleast two more members to qualify. I'm not too particular on who as long as there won't be issues among those in the room.

Staff & Volunteers / tech duty
March 12, 2009, 05:59:03 PM
Hi, I sent this to tech through E-mail hoping that they would consider me for full staff this year, seeing as how I've done this for close to 4/5 years now as a volunteer but I have yet to get a single response from them. I don't know about during the con, as far as tech goes, but for setup and tear down I made a sizable dent in setting stuff up and taking it back down, including stuff that the OAV people set up, last year and I would like to offer the same contribution this year as I have plenty of experience. Kava suggested that I attend one of the meetings to ask about it but I am unable to afford a 8 hour round trip due to gas prices. IF I do get on staff I'll likely be able to arrive on thursday for the begining of setup and stay through monday evening for teardown.

QuoteHello there, I've been volenteering for atleast 4/5 years now and I thought I might ask if I could become an official staff member this year, having basicly done the same thing for 2k8. All of the years I've volenteered, I helped both the tech department and the OAV staff set up and take down the video rooms before and after the con, which was my primary reason for being in tech and I'd like to offer my experence for this year as well. During the "off hours" in the tech department, I spent the rest of my on the clock hours watching the doors and checking IDs.

Last year, in no particular order, I helped with:

Helping the OAV staff set up the screens, platforms and speaker wiring in the main video rooms.

Wireing our own equipment in place and taping it down the wires running accross the floor, ran equipment from storrage to where they needed to go and retreaving "lost equipment" such as missing microphones from rooms that either had too many or didn't need them.

Moving equipment from the loading docks to where they needed to go (most of it to the ballrooms for the OAV people).

I have not managed any of the equipment while in use aside from ocasionaly fixing a crosswired speaker, which was always done before show time.

The other main problem for me would be that due to living 4 hours away, I most likely will be unable to attend any meetings outside of memorial day weekend.

If you accept me I would also like to be signed up for one of the staff rooms I was told about to help me afford my attendance.

    Thank you

Hello everyone......heh, it's been quite a while sence I've posted here...

Anyway when I was at the con this year me and my friend came up with the idea of building a full-scale tachikoma to bring to the con in 1 to 2 (or more) years time and I'm wondering what people here would think about that, I spoke to con ops before the con ended and said if approved by the staff it may end up becoming an exibit once finished.

I am putting this thread up mainly because con ops suggested posting here about it to get the attention of the other staff heads but I would also be happy hear any suggestions on how to build it.

The Tachikoma we will be building will be compleatly operational with the exeption of the working AI and operational weapons (with the possible exeption of a nerf-ball equiped machine gun), with it being manualy operated in the same manor as in the series, with a person inside the control pod.

Below will be the steps in it's compleation with the actual construction start time being dependant on money and resorces,

The first phase will be gathering pictures from all angles of the tachikoma as well as gathering the exact dimentions for it.

In the next phase we will be building a digital model of it in a 3D rendering program from the inside out, at which point we will be getting the info on all the parts we need while making sure the parts will fit correctly inside the shell.

The third phase will consist of starting construction of the skeleton of the actual robot and fabricating custom parts including any special circutry.

The fourth phase will mainly consist of running operating tests which could result in modifing the internal design to resolve any problems we come accross such as stability.

And in the final stage we will have a 2nd round of tests with the unit compleatly assembled, making final adjustments to the programing and fine tuning preformance.

I have gone on several sites for general anime and I have noticed a few complants that in my opinion is the result of hentai and I think hentai gives the rest of anime a bad name and should be in any way made to clearly show that anime is NOT just 18+(not just hentai)
