Disappointments
- The Dealer's Hall sucks. Flat out. There's no variety really, no good prices, nothing I can't find for cheaper on the internet.
- The Yaoi Bingo needed a stage. Badly. Seriously, what's the point in being there if you can't see anything?
- Food; overpriced, not that good, bad hours. I realize our abilities to alter this are very, very limited, but... whatever we can do would be nice.

The food vendors at the con were pretty expensive. So I walked 7 minutes to Subway and got a $5 footlong each day. :P

I liked that Starbucks was 24 hours for Fanime Con. ^_^

Edit: Added the word "footlong". I could have sworn I wrote it when I originally posted this.... Did it get censored? I'm referring to Subway's deal on $5 footlong SANDWICHES.... O_o;;;

Some attendees are afraid of retaliation. I've heard stories of threads being locked on the worst horror stories.... O_o

This is the first time I've noticed the Top Favorites feature on YouTube.

"Fanime 08: Yukie (Nekoneko Lacus) singing Nico Douga Medley"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhE5fqXBIsc
Currently has the honor of being "#90 - Top Favorites (This Week)  - Travel & Events"!  ;D

There's also "Fanime 08 Masq: Yukie 希子 (Nekoneko Lacus) Performance Custom" which has the video added and has the high quality option. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXR8HpX6B-g

Didn't I just write my pros and cons..... Hmmm. There's an awful lot of threads about convention feedback. :P

Overall I felt more comfortable in 2007. 2008 introduced a lot of power trippy volunteers.

I've been to EVERY Fanime Con. 2008 was a mixed bag for me.

Fanime Con 2008 didn't seem to go as smoothly as 2007 did.... I left 2008 in a bad mood after being treated like a prisoner during the closing ceremonies.... Yeah, congratulations on a successful convention.... *grumble grumble*

Pros:
*Lots of food options.
*Swap Meet went well from my experiences.
*The Nico Nico Douga Medley masquerade opening act.
*Guest panels were surprisingly informative.

Cons:
*Closing ceremonies. The worst closing ceremonies I've ever attended at any convention. Volunteers were very rude to attendees, especially this one guy wearing glasses who was yelling "You're not in line if you're not against the wall!" when we were all already against the wall....

When we entered the room, attendees were yelled at to take the next available seat starting on the left side of the room. After seating was done, there were great seats empty in the front on the right side....

I don't understand the need for people to be going on power trips at closing ceremonies.

Volunteers being new is no excuse for being rude and abrasive!

*Panels scheduled close together. This caused some panels to run into next and caused a lot of excessive hall traffic because of the lines for the next panel. There should be some space between each panel for clean up and set up.

Gaming / PSU players unite!

Hardly anyone replies to this thread. :P

I started seeing JP version players on the Xbox 360 servers the morning of Friday 12/15/2006.

Too bad the US version can't type in Japanese yet. :(

Stats update.

I'm assuming you're on the EN PS2/PC version?

I ended up buying an Xbox 360 just to play Phantasy Star Universe. Players on the Japanese 360 version should be joining soon. :)

I'm guessing that's part of the reason for the big 12/8 update push since the US, Japan, and European Xbox 360 versions are supposed to be on the same servers and I'd imagine Japanese 360 version players would be pretty mad to find that their version is way behind the Japanese PS2/PC version.

Although, I don't think very many people in Japan have Xbox 360s.....

Tetris DS: 595664-244701

The DS Wi-Fi Friend Code stuff really takes too much effort to arrange and set up. The only time I've ever played a Friend Code match was with someone in the same room. :P

"ex; pop'n music was working great, might need to be louder."

Pop'n Music wasn't working great, it was non-existant. :(

I'm glad I got a few decent games of Soul Calibur 2 in before it was changed to 3. It's too bad both games didn't exist at the same time. I prefer the balancing and costumes of 2 over 3.

I hope On Campus Entertainment has a wider range of games available than what was at Fanime. The arcade was pretty much the same as the AX2005 arcade, which I believe also used OCE.

Heh. The convention center's locked up. :P

I'm currently at my hotel room. Most people left after being registered. I expected activity to last longer like last year.

As for the arcade, I'm dissapointed that it's confined to a room. I really liked the casual feeling of having arcade games throughout the convention center.

As for the games, as of the swap meet, it looks like there are less than last year and I didn't see a  Pop'n Music machine. Will there be more machines arriving?

None of the machines were set up and turned on on Thursday.

When should we expect the arcade to open?

It's past 2:00am...
I'm gonna check on the arcade!

Any status changes for Pop'n Music and Keyboardmania? A version of Pop'n Music was mention on the initial list, but not much else has been said about it.

I know it's past May 1st, but this thread still seems to be open. Here's what I'd like to play, in case anyone cares. :P

I'm really hoping to be able to play Keyboardmania (3rd Mix preferred) and any version of Pop'n Music (a version was already mentioned in the "Here is a list of the ARCADE Games for FanimeCon" thread).

It's disappointing that Golfland isn't providing the arcade games this year. They provided a very good selection last year. I was hoping that they would provide games for this year's, then there would be a high chance they would bring Keyboardmania 3rd Mix and Pop'n Music 8.

"Music Games:
* 2pcs-Dance Dance Revolution Supernova (if released, otherwise Extreme)
* DrumMania V
* GuitarMania V
* Beatmania III
* Pop n Music Anime version"

I'd really like to see Keyboardmania at this year's Fanime. I played it quite a bit at last year's ($60+?). It also got a lot of attention from people who had never seen it before.

It's good that it looks like there's going to be at least A Pop'n Music game. 8 or later would be much better though, because they have much more songs to choose from and also include anime songs. The Anime versions have very small, limited song lists.

The first FanimeCon was in 1994 at Cal State Hayward (now called Cal State East Bay) http://www.csuhayward.edu/ and the "F" in "FanimeCon" stood for "Free" (free to attend).  It was the first anime convention I ever attended and I'm proud to say I've consistently attended each one since. :D

FanimeCon '94 was a 1 day gathering of 3 anime clubs: No-Name http://www.nnanime.com/ , Foothill A.N.I.M.E. http://foothill.anime.net/ , and I don't remember the third.... :( I think its name changed a couple times?

There were 3 large (in comparison to the room sizes at recent anime cons) viewing rooms, each was run by one of the anime clubs and a small dealers room. I remember 2 dealers rooms but I don't remember which year it was....

The main events were the showing of the City Hunter live-action movie and the uncut, subtitled, widescreen (allowing people to see past Akuma/Gouki's knee) Street Fighter animated movie.
