I was wondering is Musicfest still going on 2012? Cuz I didn't see it shows up on the website.....
From what I know, that information, along with any guests of honors or confirmed panels, is not uploaded onto the website until at least 2 months after registration opens. With that said, it would not make any sense for Fanime to put an end to MusicFest, and seeing that registration opened up much later than before, it wouldn't be surprising if such announcements are made within a couple of weeks from Friday.

We normally make announcements as guests after guests are finalized. If MusicFest weren't planned on happening at FanimeCon 2012, I'd be shocked. :P
I still have heard no announcements of musical guests and I was going to attend as press so long as there is music/fashion content for me to cover. since i live in NY. I have to plan these things ahead. this is not good at all >.> ???

There will be a MusicFest. Unfortunately, most announcements are (normally) delayed by discussion and contracts. :(
anyone heard who is performing this year?

I'm sure they'll announce it on the main site, when they have Music Fest guests.
It's going to be a quit a small
MusicFest without any guest! >:(
Fanime is about a mouth away,
yet no music guest announced?
yeah a little worried but at the same time they do something great every year. i'm more curious now of who is coming if it's taking this long to announce. ;D

I checked my emails from last year and at this date there had been no international guests announced. We got the website launched much earlier this year which makes it seem like guest announcements are taking longer this year but they are in line with years past.

(There's only a handful that know ahead of time.)

As MPLe said, each year differs. If we brought back the same guests and everything was the same, then maybe...but then that would be a boring con:) We are endeavoring to let you all know as soon as a new guest is confirmed, but things are always changing.
Well, that's a bit comforting. I hate the anticipation of not knowing, but that little update is helpful. I am hoping to see something by next week or the beginning of May. Either way, only about a month away. So excited!

I was thinking they'd announce someone shortly after the last staff meeting (you know, inform staff before releasing to the general public), but I guess that didn't happen...
I mean, seriously guys? We're now a month out, and the only guest that's been announced is a dinky little American guest? Not that there's anything wrong with dinky little American guests. I think it's awesome to get local guests too. (Especially ones like LittleKuriboh and Doug Walker... That'd make my Fanime right there. But I digress.) It's just... you'd think you'd have more than one guest announced by now. :/
Sorry if I got a wee bit off topic. I just wanted to put my thoughts out there. :)
I guess its a repeat of last year. The start of the month is when they posted up all the guests.
Heck, AX only has two guests so far..
Wait tell the end of the week, then you'll see more names show up, but thats just my guess.

What, just in time so people can't cancel their hotel rooms? That would be quite the coincidence.
Hey, look, that convention at the end of July has announced their first guest. They're still 93 days away and they have the same amount of announced guests.
I think we have untill the 30th to cancel reservations. I got good rooms this year so i'm in high hope of them announcing someone soon. It's fanime they wouldn't let us down i hope lol.

It makes no sense for us to delay announcing guests to lock everyone into a hotel room. Looking at the entire picture, it would mean that we sell out of hotel rooms for one year but hurt us in future years. Makes no sense to me or anyone else that would make decisions like this.

Remember a lot of the Fanime staff incharge do have normal day jobs.
It's not like they are at Fanime hq just partying up all day watching/reading anime/manga and listening to Pururin song in the background.

Note, I'm not claiming that anyone is delaying announcements for this purpose. Just that it would be a hell of a coincidence (i.e. I don't believe that to be the intention). But you must admit, cynical thoughts may creep is (perception is reality, as they say). Just because no one is saying it out loud doesn't mean people aren't *thinking* it on some level (perhaps in a deep corner of their minds).
Note I'm also not complaining. Things happen for various reasons. Fanime staff have to do what they feel is necessary (making sure everything is confirmed, details worked out, contracts signed, etc). Of course, potential attendees also have to do what they feel is necessary (make plans to go to Fanime, make plans to go to other conventions, stay home, etc).
Also, I don't think selling out hotels is a problem, seeing as every year, they seem to sell out just fine without any guests announced. This year they went pretty fast; less than 6 hours and the contiguous blocks were all snapped up (Fri-Mon) in the walking distance hotels. Plus, looking at the survey on what people go to Fanime for, guest related stuff was surprisingly low on the ranks (the highest were the concerts, which were ranked 4th with 10%), so it would appear that a specific set of guests aren't critically important to the survey taking people or the hotel reserving potential attendees.
Whatever the reasons, it actually doesn't matter to me, since I have to concern myself with my situation. On the attendee side, a final decision must be made, since the free hotel cancellation period ends this Friday. Why this is the case, I don't know. Certainly wasn't like this the first year I went to Fanime; this "can only cancel a month before" thing only seemed to have started last year. I'm sure Fanime will have great guests, but I since I do not live down the street from San Jose, I can't just decide to when things get announced. The guests are a critically important factor for me, so not knowing more than 1 guest with 30 days to go makes it so that difficult choices must be made, because of this cancellation policy (which I've never seen for any other sort of event, but maybe I'm wrong).
As for the staff having day jobs...yes, this is true. It is also true for many other conventions. Do they have a difficult job running the convention? Yes. Do they get my sympathy? Sure. Does that mean it's perfectly fine they way it's being handled, from a attendee's perspective? That's for each of the attendees to decide.
Anyways, enough ranting off topic. I'm sure whomever Fanime is trying to finalize as their MusicFest guests will be great and the attendees that go will love them. I'm sure whatever other guests Fanime is about to secure will also be great and people will love them too. I'm just not sure if I will be there to see them, since my decision on what to do MUST be made shortly.

All fair points. The main point of my post was essentially "lets not spread rumors". =) I think most people agree that we should start announcing guests (insert quote from random Twitter person here comparing us to other convention that may or may not be related to FanimeCon in anyway), but I can only assure you that we're working hard on getting everything finalized. It is completely understood that the GoHs are a big part of FanimeCon for some that attend FanimeCon, so it's not like we're going to purposely ignore this - What kind of fan run convention would we be. ;)
Regarding the hotel room cancellation, it really depends on the hotel or housing company that you work with. I've assisted in events where the hotel/housing company required cancellations 60 days in advance (which is completely crazy and so rare).

So, I just have a question regarding cancellations then, the Cancellation policy on the website which says, 1 full nights room&tax will be charged, is that a contract agreement through CMR?
I know that in general, when I personally book a room, it is usually only 24 hours - 72 hours notice to escape with no costs. While it differs on room types and booking times etc, that seems to be the norm.
When I was reading the emails, it says that (just paraphrasing) "FanimeCon will have no obligation to seek recovery of monies for the guest after 27th" and to "not contact the hotels directly until May 18th".
Does that mean that we could contact the hotels directly after May 18th regarding cancellations and still cancel as long as it falls under there direct hotel cancellation policy?
It is a little confusing to me since there are two different entities engaging in the reservation policies.
Just want to clarify if April 27th is a guaranteed reservation cancellation charge of 1nights room and tax, and who this cancellation charge would go to?

One of the things I love about FanimeCon is all the international guests! I don't think there's a whole lot of anime cons that has as many Japanese guests as Fanime! (Of course, this is sort of a double-edged sword for me since I'm also a big fan of English VAs, but it's not like Fanime never has them!)

Are you guys going to announce
some more guest before then?
... or are you going to announce
them two weeks before the con?
While I normally would give any giant con the benefit of the doubt in announcing guests because of the time negotiating terms and signing contracts, especially with foreign guests, this is getting a little extreme. To only have one US voice actor as a guest when it's less than 30 days out is not only a bit worrisome, but it makes it extremely difficult to plan anything for the con ahead of time.
i notice alot of cons have most of there guest already booked. I'm wondering who is coming most of who i would wanted to have seen are at other cons this year. Kinda to late to cancel the room so just gonna go and have fun and if all else fails i shall be at the bar.
For those of us who donate stuff to your charity auction, it would be helpful to know what guests will be at Fanime as soon as possible. I'd hate to donate an Itunes card and find out that there's no music guest to sign it.
Well, here's to hoping we'll see something on Tuesday, May 1.
I know you guys working the con are waiting till everything is finalized, and you keep teasing us, but throw us a bone here. We've been waiting patiently for announcements, but it's under a month now. How are things not finalized and there's less than a month when several other cons not only have more guests, but guests that are big names. Animazement has Kotoko coming, and Fanime's musicfest performers have yet to be announced. So, for the fans that are waiting patiently, could we get something? A hint? Some reassurances that there's a big musicfest name coming? Heck, even confirmation that May'n will actually be at her panel would be nice.
Quote from: Freeden on April 27, 2012, 10:27:29 PMHeck, even confirmation that May'n will actually be at her panel would be nice.
That might be difficult, since May'n's tour has a 5/25 date in Kanagawa (at Club Citta), then 5/30 and 5/31 stops in Nagoya and Kyoto. Well, technically it's not impossible, but that would be a bit much to fly out her out to SJ and fly her back to Japan so quickly. She does have to prepare for each stop and rest and stuff.
As anxious as I am, and with as long as I have been waiting, I still try to be patient. Maybe there's a reason why it's taking so long. And I have a feeling it's a good reason. Who knows, maybe they're getting someone really big. But, that's just my theory. I could be wrong. But, that's just my guess.

Well, that's a bit comforting. I hate the anticipation of not knowing, but that little update is helpful. I am hoping to see something by next week or the beginning of May. Either way, only about a month away. So excited!
*Looks at press release drafts*

Soon!

I play Blizzard games so I use their definition of Soon (http://www.wowpedia.org/Soon). :P
Personally, I don't really care who is coming as much. The instant I made the commitment to register for the weekend, I became determined to enjoy it all as much as I can. Yes, I am eager to find out who is coming, but I am still going to come no matter what. That being said, everybody has to keep in mind that the people running Fanime are most likely also running Clockwork Alchemy, which has a lot of stuff going on as well. There is also a GoH announced for that, too, so... in a way, that makes two guests for Fanime? :D That's the kind of attitude I'm going to adopt for it, anyways, lol.
Perhaps I sounded as if I am entirely relying on musicfest guests to enjoy Fanime. I'm not. I am going to for several reasons, not the least of which is that Fanime is a bit of a tradition and that I am local. But I would lie if I said the guests weren't important to me. I still have faith in Fanime, sure, but it's disheartening to see all these other cons around the same time get their guests, and big name guests I might add, and still have almost nothing from Fanime. And to keep hearing soon, and yet get nothing, it feels like a big tease. As I have stated previously in another thread, Fanime is a big con and that comes with big expectations. These kinds of things lower those expectations, and that isn't something I want to have with Fanime.
Sigh...I feel it's not worth mentioning how anxious this situation is, as I'm sure Fanime is well aware of the date. Things happen, sure, and it can't be easy to deal with all of the complaints while there's a convention to be happening in a month's time. But I do share the extremely high anxiety the rest of the people in this thread seem to be dealing with =_= it's very disappointing to still have no word of anything. I know Fanime is still working very hard though, so I'm trying to remain optimistic. I hope this delay does mean that, in fact, a very big guest is coming ><
I don't feel Fanime is too terribly late but then again I'm not the sort to get convention news right away. Someone explained to me once a convention is on the artist's time, not the other way around. The guests could be taking their sweet time for all we know, in that case, Fanime's hands are tied. I'm not sure, but this is a good event and they've not disappointed in the past. I'm sorry everyone is getting so nervous!
I wouldn't be so anxious if we had more than guest announced. It's not even that I'm thinking "Fanime didn't get anyone!" because, well duh, of course they had to.
It's just making me anxious for the sake of anxiety, and I'm starting to imagine/daydream all these huge music guests. If they do get someone BIG, then it might be good that it's announced late so I get a better place in the concert.

I think they meant lining up earlier (as opposed to later) to get a better seat...
I've been imagining big guests, too. xDDD Especially Versailles. Since, well, they're the ones I want the most out of ANYONE. ;AAA;" But, that's just me and my high hopes/dreams. T____T"
It's now May 1st, so we'll see how these next
few days plays out. If they don't have a music
guest by the 11th, then my friends and I might
not going to FanimeCon this year. >:(
You have 11 days to win us back Fanime!
The ball's in your court now.

This.
Either way though, the same principle would have applied. More people want to go (/people who only come for that guest) = harder to get in.

That is true. o.o Though I know that many more people will be going to Fanime this year, due to two cons moving down south. :c Hence, more people in line for Music Fest. >.<;;
Either way, though, I won't be able to line up til about 4 PM, with the Panty & Stocking gathering being at 3 on that day. ;A; Oh well.
There's only a little over three weeks left until fanime! I wonder if they will have two concerts this year again...?
That's a good question. :O With the Masquerade being on Sunday, I know it won't be on that day, or one of the concerts if they have more than one. XDD
Hmm I hope they'll have two again this year hahahaha >D
MusicFest is set for Saturday.

How about, "If they can't draw anything better than a stick figure, they get the fruit treatment?".
...that means that y'all have 22 days to learn how to draw at professional level. Get crackin'. The locals know where they sell durian 'round these parts, and we will bring some unpeeled ones just for this event.
Sad that this topic has turned into this, but at least it's keeping everyone's spirits up. I'd love to see a week of guest updates, with each one just as fantastic as the next.
And in the meantime, while you're making your umpteenth revision to your press release, I'll dig out my oversized slingshot that we used in college for fruit launching. Can't wait to see how far a durian will go.

I second this. I'm trying to get some friends to go to Fanime Con with me, and the hold up in them committing to it is not knowing what guests (especially music guest) is going to be there.
Well, I'll be at Fanime no matter what. But the wait is killing me. XD
i'm gonna wait a little longer but in all truth getting second thoughts about going now. i'm not ready to drop large amounts of money for the hotels and travel so not see any special guest. I"ll wait until the 10th and see where it goes from there. Another part of my also is hoping for someone big to show up. So please don't let us down.

Because they're wrong. Official website is official.
Plus, if they're off doing whatever wherever, Chiba wouldn't be available for us that weekend then.
It seems odd that there is suddenly an influx of guest announcements. Not that I'm complaining, but it seems like Fanime purposely waited until now to announce them? I find it hard to believe that's it's all just coincidental that the contracts/planning all came together at the same time for all different guests. Not that I care anymore, since LK will be attending at least, but it is really weird and unlike the past eight years I've attended. Is Fanime under new management or something?
@chi - Yes, true. o___o" Don't look at me, a friend was telling me tour dates for LM.C on there, so I got curious and looked up other bands on there. ;AA;" Also, I'm confused about something. Is Igaguri really Yomi, or his brother? o__o Cause on the Fanime site it says it's his younger brother, but elsewhere it says Sendai Kamotsu consists of entirely the same members as Nightmare. DD: I just wanted to clear that up. ><"
@InsaneChan - Yeah, that is weird. D: Also, it worries me, as a friend pointed out, if they were to get Versailles, they would've announced them months ahead. ;AAA; There goes my hopes for them. :c

This is a situation where we (FanimeCon) can't win. If we didn't announce as many guests as we did, people would complain that we weren't announcing guests and when we do, we're accused of planning it (with negative intentions). I've read numerous false theories from the fact that were trying to lock people into hotel rooms to the fact that we were going to cancel this year's con... ALL FALSE.
Sometimes, it can be something as simple as all of the contracts getting signed at the same time or something as complex as intense negotiations. In the end, we (FanimeCon) do not gain anything from screwing around with the convention that you all *want* to go to. If we were plotting anything negative, the risk of tarnishing our reputation would never be worth it.
I left this thread open because I thought it could be a good way to answer the simple question of the fate of an event that one of our members was curious about, but it has seemed to get way off topic (although the response will be "LOL YOU LOCKED THIS THREAD BECAUSE YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH?!!!!!1111222" ;)). We apologize for the huge delay in announcing our guests, but there wasn't any negative intention behind it... As it is every year, we will continue to give our all in order to make FanimeCon the best show to the best of our ability. =)
Questions? PM me.
