Now all that's left is for someone to show up at the Olympics in a Pedobear suit...

(Next to Mervyn's facing Meridian Road)

I thought Mervyn's closed? oh well

They did close.  They just haven't found anyone to take over the spot and the Mervyn's signage was still up last I was through the area.

One thing you might want to consider is checking out sites like Cosplay.com and others.  There have been plenty of gatherings and organized events set up there, like the SF Japantown Christmas gathering on 12/12 (originally to be held at Golden Gate Park, but moved due to weather), the Christmas in the Park gathering on 12/5, the Fall gathering in Vasona Park on 10/17 (which I helped organize), the Summer gathering in Kelly Park on 8/15, and plenty of others.  You'd likely get a lot more interest and input.

Well, I'm not going to bother myself with getting upset with people. Life's too short to get pissed at people all the time, right?

This is why we have an ignore list here on the boards now.  If reading a particular person's posts does nothing but get you upset and not thinking clearly when it comes to posting and the rules here, then put that person on the ignore list.  Best to do that and avoid flaming out.

And to be clear, you can work past eight hours if your employer wants you to.  However, they have to pay you more for it (from eight to twelve hours, it's time-and-a-half; from 12 until 16(?) it's double-time)  That's why most employers don't want workers putting in more than eight hours unless there is really good reason (like working Black Friday).  Of course, the skeezy ones try to have you do it off the clock (which then puts it into illegal territory...WalMart got taken to court not that long ago for that kind of thing).

Black friday is scary O.O i mean is it really as bas as it is made up to be?

Some people liken the opening of that accursed day to a zerg rush.  Me?  I find comparing it to a infected horde from Left 4 Dead to be much more apt.

Yeah, I work retail, including on Black Friday.  In returns, I even get a front row seat to the madness that is the opening of the doors that morning.  There's also talk every year of setting up a betting pool as to how many assaults we get in the store that day.

When was the last time there was a gathering of American anime fans in one spot, and the majority of people were actually considerate?! And good lord, at a movie theater!

I would have to say that it's not so much anime fans in particular as it is movie audiences in general that are rude and inconsiderate and theater managers/owners letting those audiences get away with it so long as they get their ticket and concession incomes.

I have a new pet peeve, my cable has gone out and I don't know how to fix it. I looked at troubleshooting suggestions but they don't work, now I have to wait until tomorrow to call to schedule for a technician. I want to watch TV now!!

Are you getting no channels at all, or only some of them (say, 2-38)?  If the latter and you're on Comcast, you'll need a Digital Transport Adapter (their fancy way of saying "digital cable box") to get expanded cable since they made channels above 38 (or thereabouts) digital rather than analog.  Kinda like the digital switchover for over-the-air broadcasts, except you have to get the digital boxes from Comcast rather than from a store.

It could be good, but Disney is a Plague that kills everything it touches.

Ummm...considering that Tron was a Disney movie to begin with...

Hate to say this, but you're up against the Gilroy Garlic Festival and Ultimate Game Night gatherings that day.

I'm interested too.  It's just that I won't know if I got the time off from work until Friday, when the upcoming week's schedules are posted.

Edit: scratch this.  Something's come up on that day that I'll be attending instead if I get the time off.  I wanted to go, but attending a gathering to honor a recently-deceased friend is more important, and I just got notified of it a short while ago.  Sorry, guys.

Another possible reason why someone without the experience or drive gets interviews would be connections.  They may know someone who, in turn, knows someone in management and gets into the interviewing process thanks to a bit of influence.

Hopefully my time-off request at work will be approved so I can join in on this (and UGN).

We should think about carpooling for this, since crowds and parking will be horrendous, though.

I disagree that this should be moved to Serious Business.  MJ was a major influence in the entertainment industry and had a lot of baggage associated with him.  No offense to the very recently deceased, but Billy Mays was just an overly loud pitchman.  Apples and oranges.

After looking at that, I'm scared/excited to see a life-sized TTGL. Oh wait.......

Here's something to give you an idea of what you'd be dealing with, scale-wise

(wait for the very end...)

Hrm...I keep going back-and-forth on whether to go or not.  On one hand, it's not so far out that I wouldn't know anyone if I went.  On the other hand, I hear some discouraging things about it from friends, though not quite as dramatic as Jerry put it there.  :o

Still trying to decide, to be honest.

That's pretty awesome. I wonder who paid to have that thing constructed, lol.

Nevermind. I heard it was the city itself? With taxpayer money? lol.

Would you rather it be the JSDF building it instead, with funds also going to various robotics engineers to figure out how to get it to walk? :D
