Registration / Late pre-registration

Hello!

Normally I'm on the ball about pre-registering for fanime, but for some reason this year, I totally slacked!  Anyways, I was wondering if I could get other people's advice/opinions on pre-reg. If I pre-reg today(Nov. 23), or tomorrow(Nov.24), how much of a difference do you think it will make for my hotel room choices? As a general note, I typically like getting a hotel  as close to the con center as possible.

tl;dr: Fucked up on pre-reg and am wondering my chances of getting a good hotel close to con without waiting list and with waiting list at this point in time. Thoughts?

Hey there!

I'm looking to sell my manga and one board game. I'm looking for cash only transactions, and would be willing to meet up during Fanime weekend to make the exchange. In fact, that might be the preferred method for me. HOWEVER, if you would rather go through paypal, depending on where it's shipping, I will be charging extra for the shipping. I won't charge you extra if I haul it to Fanime, just please show up to meet me and collect it. I don't want to be lugging around all these heavy volumes if I don't have to.

As an added note: I am open to negotiate pricing provided the buyer is buying at least 8 volumes of manga.

General Convention Discussion / Did anyone happen to get his picture?

Did anybody happen to get a picture of this one roronoa zoro? He had on a green wig, that was long and styled back in a sort of windblown-ish sort of way. He had blue eyes, light/tan-ish skin, roughly 6 foot. He was dressed as zoro thursday, friday and saturday from what I saw. He was with a bunch of friends and as far as I can remember, he was the only white guy and cosplayer in his group of friends. When he walked, he walked with a sort of swagger. Any body?

Howdy!

I plan to pick my badge up on thursday, and the 'start time' is from 7-10. People usually show up roughly 2-3 hours earlier. So, assuming the earliest person shows up at around 3pm, how long do you think the line might be? I was thinking of possibly showing up around 2pm, or would that probably be too early? Also, will there be signs in the fairmont directing people where to go? Although assuming I'm there around 2pm, there might not be.

And finally, swap meet.
I may/may not have missed a notice about that, but I was wondering.... Where is the swap meet going to be on thursday and what time?

Jo Chen, the Yaoi author had a small packet of her work for sale.

I think it was a 'In These Words' manga along with a prequel Doujinshi called 'New York Minute' Both or either were supposedly signed or something.

If any one has this, I'd love to buy it from you if you're suddenly regretting buying it. I just need to see pictures of it to ensure that it A] Has Jo Chen's signature and B] Is in the same condition you bought it in.

Happy Things in the Happy Universe / New People Mall in San Francisco

I've never been there, and I'm just now thinking about going to that mall sometime next week. Is it worth going to and what is there to see? I've tried looking for info online, but I haven't found anything helpful.

If not, what malls in japantown would you recommend going to for anime/manga/music related stuff besides Kinokuniya?

Serious Business / Cosplayers

I adore cosplayers, don't get me wrong, but I think I have a rather harsh, but realistic view of all this.

Am I the only one that gets really annoyed when they see a cosplayer dressing up and they're not 'right' for the character? For example, lets take Sakura Haruno, for example. She's skinny, and has specific outfits. What really annoys me is when an OVERWEIGHT, and obviously so, chooses to dress up as her. When I say obviously, I mean, you can see the bulge of their fat in the 'cosplay'. I don't know why, but when overweight/obese people dress as skinny anime characters it annoys me. Now, I don't have a problem with it all the time, because some over weight people pull the look off well, even if their weight/body types are different. But for the most part, I can't help but cringe every time I walk past an overweight cosplayer dressing as a character that is anywhere from 50-100+ pounds below their weight. What is a little weird for me, is when girls who are maybe, 10 pounds over weight, dress in skimpy clothing as part of a character cosplay. It's weird and I can't help but think 'if only you were toned'.

Oh, and cosplayers who only bother to put on wigs and make up and some cheap excuse for a 'cosplay'. I saw three characters from Naruto this year (if you recognize these people, I'm not trying to be offensive) Sakura, Sasuke and Naruto. Sasuke and Naruto wore white button down shirts and black slacks, saying they were 'Naruto' characters. Done well, it would have been fine, but the way they so obviously just threw it together killed it for me and annoyed me more than anything else. Also, just because you're wearing a 'wig' from Hatsune Miku or some other character doesn't mean you're cosplaying! It just means you're wearing a wig and looking like an IDIOT for saying you're 'cosplaying'.
Men dressing as women characters is odd, but for the most part I'm relatively okay with it. The only time I have a problem is when the men are dressing as skimpy females like Faye Valentine. I saw a Madam Red from Kuroshitsuji, beautifully done by a guy. He was way too tall, but it worked, and was actually kind of appealing to my inner fangirl.

I'm not trying to be offensive here, these are my personal opinions and if I offend anyone, I apologize. I just think this would be an interesting topic to discuss.

Cosplay! Construction, Tips, Gatherings, Advice / Fanime 2010 first time cosplayer!

Hey guys, so I plan on cosplaying for Fanime 2010 next year.

But I don't know what to cosplay as cause I'm out of ideas.

I was thinking about going as Joey wheeler, 'cept I don't know if there's gonna be a seto kaiba there because if there were one there, it would make idea for it absolutely hilarious.

So, if I choose a different character to cosplay, what would you recommend a first time cosplayer cosplaying as? Preferably not someone scantily clad.
