You can, but do expect to be VERY patient about it!

I wish you the best of luck!

The section "Hotel Changes for FanimeCon 2014" has me quite concerned, and other people have tried to demand answers for a similar question but to no avail.

As the person for my group designated to reserve the room once the site goes up next week (since I will most likely be the one who will be up early enough to do so and have experience doing it), I would like to address that I typically attend conventions on a press registration on behalf of Mission Start Podcast, and from my past experience with this convention, Press Registration does not go live until around less than 2 months prior to the event if I recall correctly, well past the time to book a good room. I also checked the registration link, and of course, it is obviously not intended for press/industry registration. That said, how would attendees intending to register via professional registration be able to book hotel rooms as soon as the housing website goes online?

I stayed at the Hotel Ramada this time around, marking the 3rd hotel I've stayed in (I've stayed at the Doubletree and Fairmont in previous years).

Pros:
1. Low cost - The price for a quad at this place was quite appealing.
2. Space
3. Continental breakfast - Really helped to conserve money for other things.
4. Near various restaurants
5. Not too far from the convention center.
6. Microwave and fridge
7. Friendly staff
8. Peaceful and quiet environment - It was actually a hotel where I would not end up waking up in the middle of the night to unnecessary noise from overexcited attendees.
9. 2 floors make it easier to go down and up without experiencing delays due to others trying to go in and out.

Cons:
1. The closet and the bathroom are in the same area - This made it a bit awkward for us cosplayers to get ready especially if you were like me and needed to do makeup. I chose to be a nice guy and let my other roommates who did not need to take around an hour to do makeup have priority.
2. Keys had a tendency to stop working after a while even though they were not placed near electronic devices - I had to switch the keys we had at least twice each during the weekend.
3. The 4+ block walk might be a bit of a problem for others.
4. Might feel like an overglorified motel room for some.

For people on a budget, this hotel is not a bad choice if you are willing to take the walk.

Didn't get to really hit the convention on Day 1 since I got screwed over by traffic and other miscellaneous delays that day, but I will inquire about these:
Day 2:
Sendou Aichi from "Cardfight!! Vanguard": (OLD PICTURE)
Charlotte Dunois from "Infinite Stratos": (WARNING: PHONE PICTURE)

(excuse the misaligned belt piece :P)

Day 3:
Hatsune Miku - "Miracle Paint"/Magician module from "Hatsune Miku: Project Diva": (OLD PICTURE, I removed the buttons prior to Fanime)
(WARNING: PHONE PICTURE)

Hotel Name: Fairmont
Would You Book Next Year: Yes if events like the Swap Meet stay at the hotel
Pros:

  • Close to convention center
  • Nearby various restaurants
  • Excellent front desk service
  • Nice view of the Santa Clara mountains and the Silicon Valley
Cons:

  • Elevator wait would be long at times especially when people are returning from large events or checking out
  • Was in a bit of a rush on Monday, so had to resort to using stairs walking down from the 20th floor
  • No free wi-fi (not much of a problem as we were able to use my phone's 4G via hotspot)
Special Notes to Share: It's a pretty decent hotel for what you pay for, but do expect a bit more trouble when staying in the rooms on the upper floors. Be prepared to either be patient or resort to walking down (and a bit of up, you have to be there to know why) many flights of stairs during the last day of the convention, which is when most people are checking out. Lack of free wi-fi might not be too much of a problem for most people, but if this upsets you, either have a phone that you can use as a modem and utilize your mobile network or look elsewhere. All in all, I felt like the Fairmont offered nice accommodations for what it was charging.

After closely looking at all the pics, I'm actually kinda glad my non cosplay friends showed up...
But would you mind if I use one of the pics I'm in for a new profile pic on my FB?
Go right ahead.

I am looking for shots of myself as "Love Is War"/Default Hatsune Miku in particular (I don't recall getting asked for photos for my other cosplays during the weekend.). Here are some pictures of myself if it helps:
Next to the Kaito with the violin with the megaphone
In the middle with the arm stretched out
Shot taken prior to the Vocaloid gathering on Friday

Thanks for coming, everyone!! I hope you all had a great time; your cosplays were all fantastic! If anyone has photos to post, please post them. c:
Here are the photos I managed to get (Most were taken by me, but I handed the camera off to others who attended when I had to be in the picture.).

I'm willing to have a shoot with you on Sunday at 2 PM if that's still available.

I can provide a megaphone, but not a speaker :(.

Speaking of which, as the event approaches, I have decided that I will be coming as "Love is War" Miku instead.

If it's at 3 PM, then I can probably stay for the entire duration. If it remains at 5 PM, then I'll have to leave early to make it to another gathering that starts at 6 PM.

I think 11 AM might be a bit too early for some. I say no mainly due a potential low turnout. I'm fine with the location, though.

From what I know, that information, along with any guests of honors or confirmed panels, is not uploaded onto the website until at least 2 months after registration opens. With that said, it would not make any sense for Fanime to put an end to MusicFest, and seeing that registration opened up much later than before, it wouldn't be surprising if such announcements are made within a couple of weeks from Friday.

New People has quite a bit of the things you're looking for. You can also check out Japan Video and Media, Japantown Collectibles, and jpnToys. You can also try Taiyo-Do Record Shop for older titles.

After giving it some thought, I MIGHT come as "Rolling Girl" Miku instead. Depends on the weather and my willingness to smile that day.
