As you all see in my Avatar, I think Chiyo is undeniably adorable.  I, however, just saw ergo proxy and couldn't get over how adorable and innocent Pino is.  especially in her pink rabbit costume.
So who's cuter?

Serious Business / R.I.P Michael Jackson
June 25, 2009, 03:43:26 PM
LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson, the record-breaking, sensationally gifted "King of Pop" who emerged from childhood superstardom to become the entertainment world's most influential singer and dancer, and the tabloid world's most disturbing celebrity, has died. He was 50.

A person with knowledge of the situation says Jackson died Thursday in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

His death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

Yes, this is VERY serious business.

Gaming / Tekken 6 BR novice/ amateur league
May 13, 2009, 01:18:23 AM
I've recently come across the concept of a tournament series/ league to help everyone who's ever fancied themselves a competitive Tekken player or wants to become competitive.  The tournament series has been named by Socal, its creator, the LUYG (Level up your game) tournaments.

I'm looking for feedback on anyone in this forum who would be interested and would enter such a tournament league.  It's a generally accepted fact that when the difference between an amateur and competitive fighting game player of any sort is the difference between day and night, amateurs shy away from the thought of being competitive.  This league is to bridge that gap by being a competitive scene for the amateurs and newer players.  It will run on the exact same rules as a normal Tekken tournament, but the facilitators (myself and my colleagues) will be banned from the tournament as well as anyone we deem too skilled for the league.  We will, however, be watching the tournament and will be there to offer advice to those who seek it.  This will give the newer players a chance to shine and be put in an environment that promotes improvement through the desire to beat other players within the league.

If you'd be interested in joining the LUYG tournaments, let me know. :)  I represent the Norcal region of Tekken players and thus we'd be considered the LUYG Norcal section.  If you're in socal, please go to iamtekken.com to find more information on when their LUYG tournaments will be held.

I didn't catch the update last meeting about our translator update, but I recently came across a friend who'd like to be a translator if there's still openings.
Do we still have a need for one?  If so, I'll let her know and she'll come with me to our meeting next weekend.

Thanks for your time.

Seriously, why did we move the picture thread to the "happy universe"?  It's so desolate and lonely in there.  You might as well compare the section to a desolate wasteland with a tiny oasis of spam budding once every couple weeks only to be blown over by a sandy wind of neglect again.  It's hardly happy and the thing that got posted the most in for the normal universe section is now gone and abandoned in that happy hole.  So now we have an eroding universe section and the most unhappy attempt at happiness section I've seen in a while.  How was this a good solution?

Since rockstarz8 didn't know what to do, here's a new thread for you.

Here you go, how to kill time:

We're planning to hold 2 separate Brawl tournaments at Fanime.

One will be your typical official tournament.
1v1
7 minutes
3 stock
no items
standard tournament stages only
double elimination
1 game

The other will be all hell breaks loose, we expect some of you to be upset by the results and look forward to it:
4 way ffa
items on
10 minutes
4 stock
random stage
single elimination
1 game

All we'd like to know is what days would you guys like these tournaments to be based on the poll options.  Do not mention anything about what the smash boards are discussing about the rules and whatnot.  This is strictly for the tournament dates.  Both will have prizes of equal value.

Consider that the 2nd tournament will likely attract more of the more casual crowd along with the competitive crowd.

Well I heard the saying "become stronger than you were yesterday" for the first time in Naruto.

I heard it again watching Godzilla final wars.  When I look up the words on google, among the 1st links is some Japanese kid's blog.

Is this some sort of Japanese philosophy/attitude towards life?

Given Japan's history of always trying to evolve culturally/ economically/ technologically I figured it sort of made sense.

But yeah, does anyone know for certain whether or not it's actually part of their stereotypical cultural mindset or whatever?

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2009-01-26-us-airways-river-crash_N.htm

By Gary Stoller, USA TODAY
Many US Airways (LCC) passengers who endured a crash landing in the Hudson River 12 days ago say they appreciate the $5,000 that the airline has offered — but some say it's not enough.
Joe Hart, a salesman from Charlotte who suffered a bloody nose and bruises, says he "would like to be made whole for the incident."

It's too soon after the accident to determine what emotional distress he has suffered, he says.

He's one of 150 passengers who were dramatically rescued Jan. 15, when the Charlotte-bound Airbus A320 jet safely ditched into the frigid river off Midtown Manhattan. A pilot on the plane told air-traffic controllers that birds struck the plane before both engines failed after takeoff from New York's LaGuardia Airport.

After the crash, US Airways sent passengers a letter of apology, a $5,000 check to assist "with immediate needs" and reimbursement for the ticket.

http://money.cnn.com/2009/01/16/news/companies/circuit_city/?postversion=2009011614

Bankrupt electronics retailer Circuit City Inc. said Friday it has asked for court approval to close its remaining 567 U.S. stores and sell all its merchandise.

The company said it has 34,000 employees.

"We are extremely disappointed by this outcome," James Marcum, acting CEO for Circuit City, said in a statement. "We were unable to reach an agreement with our creditors and lenders to structure a going-concern transaction in the limited timeframe available, and so this is the only possible path for our company."

NORMAL -- Paul and Caragh Brooks wanted an off-beat wedding and they got one Friday evening — at Taco Bell.

Caragh Brooks, dressed in a $15, hot pink dress, said her vows with Paul Brooks, who wore a lavender shirt and purple and magenta tie in honor of Taco Bell's colors, in the dining area of the fast-food eatery at 1527 E. College Ave., Normal.

buahahhahahaahha.  I give them props for originality.  My wedding, however, won't be so unorthodox.  :P  Read entire article in link.

3 days away, I'm very scared :(
It's the knowledge of what'll be done to my mouth after they KO me that has me scared.
><;;
and for reference to moonkin:
turns out my right wisdom tooth did grow a root into a cone shape.  my left wisdom tooth will be drilled out (didnt drop yet, still in my jaw), but i noticed the root isn't really developed and it's about as wide as the crown  ??? will this be problematic?

Well I'm strapped for cash for my rent and a new lcd monitor at the moment.
I mentioned to a couple people during fanime that I have a gaia poster from fanime 2004 signed by the 4 heads of gaia (locke, vo, lanzor, cant read the 4th sig).  Anyone think I can get decent money for this?  I know people "donate" hundreds upon thousands into gaia "donation items" in order to trade up for the older items (2003 donation items).

 San Francisco --

The California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved gay marriage ban Thursday in a ruling that would make the nation's largest state the second one to allow gay and lesbian weddings.

The justices released the 4-3 decision, saying that domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George. Justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno joined the majority.

Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as news spread of the decision.

In striking down the ban, the court said, "In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation, and, more generally, that an individual's sexual orientation -- like a person's race or gender -- does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights."

While agreeing with many arguments of the majority, Justice Marvin Baxter said in a dissenting opinion that the high court overstepped its authority. Changes to marriage laws should be decided by the voters, Baxter wrote. Justices Ming Chin and Carol Corrigan joined in dissenting.

The cases were brought by the city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples, Equality California and another gay rights group in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco's monthlong same-sex wedding march that took place at Mayor Gavin Newsom's direction.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody -- not just in the state of California, but throughout the country -- will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.

The challenge for gay rights advocates, however, is not over.

A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution.

The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signatures to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states.

If voters pass the measure in November, it would overrule the court decision.

I know the drive from San Jose State to the convention center is long and can be lonely/ boring, so I'm checking if anyone in the area would like to ride with me to the convention center.  Just help pitch in for gas a bit. :)

edit::
For those who don't want to carpool, I thought I'd still be helpful to you all and provide you with directions on how to get to the convention center. :)  Hope you carpool with me though. ;D

Things in the Universe / Down with pocky!!!
May 05, 2008, 10:35:47 PM
My state of grievances:

Being a Filipino, I grew up going to the local Filipino market to get groceries with my mom.  In that market there were all sorts of cool imported candies, pocky NOT being one of them.  But I didn't care, because there was an oh so better snack that has since then been neglected.  I grew up on a wonderful snack called Yan-Yans.  Oh I had no idea what pocky was, but I damn well knew every Filipino kid of the day grew up with Yan-Yans and those tiny jello cups.

Some of you may wonder "WTF is Yan-Yans?"
This is Yan-Yans!!

It outdoes pocky in every damn way except not being LAZY friendly!
It isn't the national otaku food, the dip is still creamy so the taste is richer, and I love it!

So from here on out, I am declaring an anti-pocky movement!!

DO NOT WANT

My allies and I will be armed with yan-yans at fanime!! Otakus beware!!
