#3 on the list!  Which means I'll be in the 4th spot if the Fanime Staff decides to sell their stuff, like they usually do. :)  Fanime Staff always get spot #0.

Keys:  Will there be a link to show the list of those who signed-up for it?  Currently, the only way you can see the list is if you sign-up.  Thanks!
Oops. I've added the link to the first post. It sounded like Fanime web staff is in overdrive, so I'm not sure when it will be up there. I'll add it to the form proper once things quiet down.

I suspect spot #0 will indeed host items from staff helping out at swap meet.  ;)

I got my reservation, but for the life of me cannot locate the form to sign that we have to bring on any of the pages.  Could you put a direct link to it?
It's currently being proofed by the powers that be. I'll send out an email to everyone pre-regged when it goes up!

Live Programming and Events / Fanime Swap Meet 2009
February 05, 2009, 06:42:05 PM
[Last update to this post: 5/6/2009]
Hey folks! Once again Fanime will be hosting a swap meet - where some fans unload some of their old merchandise and collectibles and some fans hunt for great deals on said old merchandise and collectibles.
Swap Meet on the Fanime Website

There will be two separate events, one on Thursday night and one on Friday night. You will need to be at least 18 years old to sell and have a valid con badge to sell (that means full-weekend for Thursday). The full list of rules for selling can be found here:
Rules for Swap Meet Sellers

*** UPDATED 5/6/2009: LINE MAPS AVAILABLE ***
Sellers should also check out this page for more information on exactly how you'll get your space at con.

***TIPS FOR BUYERS AND SELLERS***
- Bring Cash and don't be surprised if you find yourself needing to make change.
- If you're over 18 and want to look at adult materials, bring your ID. Sellers are required to check.
- Be prepared to carry or bring your own bag. If you're selling, you may want to bring bags you would otherwise recycle to give to buyers.

We are doing pre-registration for spaces on Friday night again. Pre-registration opens March 25th at 8pm. Keep an eye on this post as the registration link will be placed here first!

***FRIDAY NIGHT SWAP MEET PRE-REGISTRATION IS OPEN!***

Feel free to post any questions here. See you at the swap meet!

Do you have a general idea what the envisioned size, form factor, binding, and price range is?

Here's my experience from last year, but this is unofficial of course:

Skit Length - The maximum is 2.5 to 3 minutes BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE WHOLE AMOUNT. Often times shorter is sweeter, funnier and better.

Walk Ons - These were done first as part of a pre-show Fashion run through narrated by everyone's favorite license-plate-head ninja emcee.

Audio Tracks - These need to be submitted before rehearsal, preferably the day before during check-in, but if everything is in order, it can be taken as late as the morning of the show.

You may want to try searching in the Cosplay subforum for 2008 threads. While they won't necessarily have the full rules up and the links to last years site won't work, they will have some common questions and answers people have, including the 'found item' versus 'bought cosplay' distinction. Here's one of the threads:

Big Event Showcase / Re: Masquerade Rules?
August 10, 2008, 03:13:40 PM
The official rules will most likely be posted when the full Fanime 2009 site is launched. Until then, you might want to read some of the old threads in the Cosplay forum:
http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,8270.0.html

In previous years, if you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian signed form to participate.

Also in previous years, the rules have reminded participants that Fanime is a family friendly con, so to please limit their skits to a Teen rating. (MPAA has trademarked PG-13, so people tend not to use it for non-movies.)

It seems likely. While perhaps your friends aren't into it, it seems pretty popular. It will be ending just a few months before the convention takes place and there will likely be plenty of goods available for dealers to import. As not only a BONES series but their 10th anniversary project, it's a good bet by any measure.

The Masquerade was on Saturday night.
The Black & White Ball was on Sunday night.

I suspect information on how to sell at swap meet for Fanime 2009 will be up when the Fanime 2009 website is up.

For the past two years, there has been online sign ups for Friday, and straight first-come, first-serve on Thursday.

The fan art is actually separated from the Events (Program) Guide at Comic Con into the Souvenir Book:
http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_progbk.shtml

I'm sure it's fairly expensive to produce (though lower quality paper than Fanime's program guide by far, and only black and white) and while nifty, there are a lot of events/departments at Fanime that could benefit from the cost.  I can try to dig one up for the next meeting though.

I really liked the Fanime Program Guide this year - great job by the Art Pool and Pubs!

Plenty of staff said that a few minutes after the swap meet opens they should stop taking preregistered sellers. But a female staff member with long brunette hair said that they're gonna keep taking people that preregistered even when they show up hours later and that everyone else is just fucked. I think the fact that only one person is processing sellers was amazingly bad.

I'm not sure what staff told you that swap meet was going to stop taking pre-registered sellers a few minutes after swap meet opens, the rule has always been that if someone was not around after opening and we were through the line, we would give up their spots.

As the female staff member with long brunette hair working swap meet, I can assure you I never said swap meet would take preregistered people hours later and certainly not that "everyone else is just ----ed." I would never use that kind of language to an attendee and I was confident that we would be able to place everyone I talked to and told them so. On Friday evening, we let people know there were extra spaces for non-registered individuals but we would process pre-registered sellers first and then those who weren't registered. As we were finished with both pre-registered and unregistered within an hour of opening, "hours later" registration was already closed.

It was unfortunate that our second cashier got held up but eventually we got a replacement. We are already planning on ways to make processing even faster next year and securing more staff. We actually placed people at a rate 50% faster than last year. We also were able to place more people.

Thank you for your feedback. It is always helpful to know how our attendees are feeling and hopefully we can serve you better at next year's event!

I'm hoping for the Gainax/Gurren Lagann guests who couldn't come this year because they were working on the movie.

We have 50 spaces and 60 people on our list. Some people may not show, some may only require half spaces, some may not be following the rules.  After we have gone through the people on our list, if there is room, we will take walk-ins. The likelihood on this is still iffy at best. We start processing the list at 8pm. I would guess it would take at least an hour to be through with everyone.

Note: We are processing people from the Marriott side doors of Exhibit Hall 2. If you are facing the hall from the concourse, these are the doors on the left.  If people choose to line up, they should note that the front will be on that side.  Also, since we will be processing people on the list first, we will have to send away people in our processing line who are not on this list. If you choose to take a chance with walk-in, please keep behind the pre-registered people.

After we have dealt with the pre-registration list and any additional people behind them, we will close down the registration portion of our table. (We will still be around to enforce the rules and handle problems as they may arise.) In other words, please don't come at 11pm looking for a spot, we won't be able to process you then.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Question
May 21, 2008, 09:40:13 AM
Sadly I've never seen Wizzywig carry wigs.  (Counterintuitive in this thread, no? :) )

Some of the places listed are cosplay or fashion though, I just don't know if they would carry hairpieces and if so, something Inuyasha. Also, the list hasn't been updated since April, so there might be a few dealers that aren't listed.

Cosworx was here last year and I'm pretty certain they had wigs. I don't see them listed this year. You might want to do an internet search on the dealers list for this year to see which ones likely carry wigs:

http://www.fanime.com/events/dealers-room

Some people might sell their used wigs at the swap meet too.

It's 8:30pm to be safe. (It's on the List of Registered Individuals page.) Basically if it's 8:30pm and we're through the first 30 and your number already, we're going to assume you're a no-show and start filling empty spaces with the later numbered people who are present.

So 8:30 is not the time for the general public to arrive?  Are you going to start checking people in early like starting at 8pm?  I'd like to be there when you start working the list.

Oh, I thought you wanted to the latest time to be safe.  We aim to start processing people at 8pm.

Also, another thing that people sometimes do in your situation is have a friend who does have a space at the swap meet sell for them.  (Remember though, only 2 people per spot... so we can't have 4 friends in one spot selling all at the same time, 2 would have to leave their things with the others.)

Will you have staff/security checking each section throughout the night(s) to make-sure that there aren't more than just 2 people manning one section?

We send people around throughout the night doing bootleg/adult materials/other rules violations checks.

hehe  have they ever caught people selling knock-off/bootleg stuff?  If so, what do they do?

It depends how egregious it is.  A lot of times we find bootlegs on the initial check before people even get to their spaces.  If it's an honest mistake and just one or two items, we have a little talk and it's not a problem as long as the seller doesn't sell the items in question.  If it's a ton of stuff or someone is caught twice, we would ask them to leave.
