Hello everyone,

I'm glad to see that some people are getting their confirmation emails :)

However, it looks like some people are missing their emails. First, let me say that there was an OVERWHELMING amount of applicants this year. Even if you signed up on May 1st (when sign-ups began), you are not guaranteed a spot. We are looking to expand next year to help with this problem.

Also, please make sure to check your spam filter. My confirmation emails have been known to get caught by spam filters and therefore caused some grief for attendees. Definitely check that out before you assume you didn't get anything.

Lastly, some people signed up via email this year even when the forums and website made clear that sign-ups were closed. I only opened up the sign-ups on May 1st through a form. I know that emailing the speed dating email address was what was used last year, but we used a form this year. So if you signed up way ahead of time by emailing me, your application was not considered.

I sent out all the confirmation emails tonight, so you should be getting them very soon (if not already).

Remember: even if you didn't get in, you should still try and line up! There are always no-shows and latebirds :) I'm quite picky about punctuality, so if a registered person is more than 5 minutes late, their spot will be revoked.

Please continue to post your concerns on the forums :) I'm always happy to help!

Thanks,

Jade

I realize that the letters haven't been sent out yet, but to save us the trouble of possibly waiting until Day One, can it please be notified on the forum when the confirmation e-mails get officially sent out?
This. I agree. It'll certainly help people plan their convention weekend better.

Hello,

As Speed Dating head, I apologize for the last minute confirmation. I wanted to wait as long as possible to give as many people a chance to submit their application, but did not think of how it may affect an attendee's scheduling. I will definitely keep this in mind for next year :) Your feedback is always appreciated. Thank you for being so patient with me and my lovely staff!

which days are you lookin at to host the event right now?
and are you including the lgbt community?
in that case, which nights would be for the heterosexual ppl?

and looks like we're gonna keep it to 3 mins?
okie dokes then

thanks jade :D

Hi Princesskitty18,

All good questions, and thanks for asking them!

- I am currently planning on hosting the event on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Specific times will be posted later (but before sign-ups on May 1st).
- Yes, I am planning on including the LGBT community this year. I'm really excited for this, and I'm glad that I get to make it happen :)
- Plans are still tentative about what nights will be for who, but my staff and I have a pretty good idea. I will let you know as soon as its set in stone.
- As far as the 3min vs 5min thing is concerned, I will be talking with my staff about what they think is the best way to approach this dilemma. I will update you and everyone else as soon as its been decided.

Thanks,

Jade

Hi everyone,

As some may know, Speeddating has been a very successful event at FanimeCon, and we wish to continue the event at FanimeCon 2012!!

Here is what is posted on the website and is up to date:

-----------------

SIGNUPS ARE NOW CLOSED. You will receive a confirmation email if you were submitted. If you don't receive a confirmation email with your date and time slot, you were not submitted into FanimeCon Speed Dating this year. Please try and line up at the doors!

The FanimeCon Speed Dating event is for 18+ SINGLES ONLY who are interested in meeting new people and potentially finding love! This speed dating event will be for boys meeting girls and vice versa. Anyone who is above the age of 18 is eligible. IDs WILL BE CHECKED AT THE DOOR TO VERIFY AGE. PLEASE BRING AN ID THAT INDICATES YOUR BIRTHDAY (passport, drivers license, state id, etc.). THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.

Event Places and Times:
All events will be held in the San Carlos Room (Hilton Side, NOT the Marriott side!!).
Friday (5/25): 8PM to 10PM
Saturday (5/26): 2PM to 4PM and 4PM to 6PM
Sunday (5/27): 2PM to 4PM and 4PM to 6PM

HOW THE EVENT WILL WORK:
Upon successful registration, a confirmation email will be sent. Please follow the instructions on the email. And wait for another email from Speed Dating letting you know whether or not you got into the event.
Come to the event with your ID. A piece of paper to take notes on, a pencil, and a checklist with numbers on it will be provided. Each participant will have an identification number.
You will have five minutes to talk to each person. If you feel like you connected with that person, place a check mark next to their number on the checklist. You may check up to three people. If you check more than three, I will not process your sheet and you will get no matches.
YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION, INCLUDING NAME AND AGE.
At the end of the event, you will have a few minutes to finalize your ideas and checkpoints. Please RANK THE PEOPLE YOU'RE INTERESTED IN (with 1 being your top preference). Make sure to turn in the checkpoint/ranking paper in. We will then match all compatible couples accordingly.
NOTE: We will ONLY match people with a mutual interest. Please note that a match is not guaranteed. Once the event is over, we will send your matches to you ASAP VIA EMAIL. If you wish to be notified of possible matches via modality other than email, or NEED to attend on a certain day (because you won't be at the convention on one of the days), please note it in the ADDITIONAL NOTES in your application. We will notify everyone about their potential matches during the convention so you can spend time with your potential partner, if a match is made.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS/COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE POST THEM ON THE FORUMS. DO NOT EMAIL THE ADDRESS GIVEN ABOVE. This is to minimize repeat questions. We will check the forums daily, so expect an answer within 24 hours. You may also post suggestions that we may take into account for following years to come to ensure a fun and safe event that everyone can enjoy.

-------------------------------

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you there!

i think 5 minutes is sufficient
i remember thinkin after the initial 3 minutes "what the heck...who did i just meet wit..?"
and i was really floundering around kinda

is there anyway for the sign ups to open earlier?
or did the head of the event say may for sure probably?

thanks :D

Hi princesskitty18,

The reason sign-ups aren't open earlier is because the event fills up ridiculously fast. I have no doubt that there will be enough people to fill up all the times we have set aside for the event.

Thank you for your input about the time allowed per person. I am still debating on whether or not I want to make it 3 or 5 minutes. It sounds like 5 minutes is preferred, so I will try to adjust the event to suit the longer time. I will let you know when I decide.

Thank you for being so patient with this event :) I look forward to seeing you all at FanimeCon!

check the first forum post for waitlist information. I only sent out the waitlist email to some people, but everyone should have gotten the special after event email :)

what special after event email? 0.o

I also received no such email and i've been checking my spam like crazy, nothing at all...

Hi there,

Sorry that you didn't receive an email! I was almost positive that I sent an email out to everyone, but it looks like I missed some people. I apologize for that. I'm not sure why you didn't receive an email, especially if you were at the event. But I can assure you that if you did not receive an email, you did not get a match. If you want to email me you with your problem, though, so I can look up your email address and see what went wrong, please email [email protected].

Thanks,

Jade

Thank you everyone for being so understanding about the speed-dating event. It was kind of unorganized and last minute at some parts, and I apologize for that. But overall, I'd like to think it was a great success! People seemed to have a pretty good time!

I see that there is some feedback on the ranking system, etc. I will definitely take all of these things into consideration when I'm working this event next year. This was a great learning experience for me! I now know that running this event by myself would have been impossible XD So thank you SO MUCH to the people who helped out!

I hope to make FanimeCon 2012 speed-dating a bigger, better event than before!

Not to interrupt the lovely insanity.

Were those of us wait-listed supposed to be assigned a day to show up and be hopeful? If so ah' didn't get such an email XD Checked my spam n' everything. Got the emails about the post event social hour. So lol.

*chuckles* Disneyland references eh. Funny, raised in Cali, been to Disneyworld 3-4 times... Never have been to Disneyland come to think of it...

check the first forum post for waitlist information. I only sent out the waitlist email to some people, but everyone should have gotten the special after event email :)

And uhmmmm hopefully speed dating will be as awesome (if not awesome-er) than the haunted mansion ride :P

still no email here... ???

You may have not received an email because you signed up later than when I sent out the wait list email. Please look at the first post in the thread and scroll to the bottom of it for more wait list information.

I'm curious how many applicants there were for this.

Also, am I even on the waitlist? You said to resend the email if I had sent it prior to the 22 nd or whatever.

There were a lot of applicants!! I would say over 150 people applied. And its been open for such a short amount of time! Speed-dating is very popular :P

If you did not receive an email, assume that you are on the waiting list.

how many people are helping you with it?

Right now, one other person will be helping me at the event. I am currently doing all the sign-ups and stuff myself. :P I'm doing my best to keep this event organized and well-run, but this is my first year and the event was quite last minute. I hope it goes alright!

I feel compelled to help out next year.

Please do! I need help next year :P

I'll swing by the event at fanime and discuss this more there :3

Cool! I look forward to meeting you there!! :)

Great, I'm so glad to hear our group email was accepted! I didn't receive an acceptance or waitlist email though? As in, if I were accepted I would expect to be told I'm in for either Friday or Sunday; if I'm waitlisted, I applied before the 22nd, but wasn't notified of my status. Wow, 150 applicants already?! That's amazing, this will be an incredible experience :o

When did you apply, and under what email address? Email me this information if you don't wish to share personal info on the forums. Because I remember one email address did not work in the group email.
