Totally hear you on the RL crazy OMG.  *steals us all away* XD

I updated the first post for Friday 4p at the FMS location (where we were last year).  I believe I've got everyone who's signed up to come, but if I've missed anyone, please please let me know!

List is updated! :)

Post has been updated! :)

Update for me: I don't not believe I will be able to make it this year T_T Too many RL things have popped up and then there's the issue of having to save up for a new car WHEE~! (yay for new car, boo for finances)  Anyway, I will continue to maintain this thread and I will certainly try to make it if possible, but at this point, it's not looking good T_T (which is such a bummer because I will miss you all terribly!)

Otherwise, the gathering is looking exciting! XD

I wish you luck in getting Goku completed XD I know how that goes myself.  My goal is to finally get Goujun done (he's been waiting on me for 3 years now ^^;;; ) but if I'm unable to, I'll prob bring ST!Goku back as I had a lot of fun in him this year <3  So fingers crossed for us both :D and everyone else trying for new costumes this year *crosses all fingers for that* *g*

Hope everyone is doing well!

I'm so glad you had fun! I did as well ^_^ And I was excited by our turnout :)

I've reupped the 1st post to reflect 2012 XD (Hi, I'm a patient patient person, aren't I XD) And Ginryuu and I will be back to host this one again next year ^_^  I hope to see all of you (including those of you who couldn't make it) again! <3

I loved this room eventhough I only utilized it once.  But I recall it being said that no photography would occur in the room, so I felt very comfortable ducking in the room for a drink of water in a costume I have to position myself in rather amusing ways in order to drink successfully while minimizing any potential for spillage on my hand-dyed silk.  It was also nice to know that the room did exist in case of any malfunctions or just as a place to collapse for a few minutes without having to worry about getting stepped on, getting snagged or getting dirty.  I definitely hope this room is back next year (and also that I remember more than once for a quick break into calm out of the awesome storm that is con XD)

Well we are all set for this gathering and I double-checked we are solid on the official gathering list! I can't wait to see everyone and I'm sure we'll have a blast! Don't forget that Saiyuki!Poker will be pre-gathering (times on first post) and the Saiyuki!Dinner will be right after the gathering for continued Saiyuki shenanigans! <3  I don't know if I'll have a chance to hop on tomorrow eve (I leave on Wednesday to head out there SO EXCITING OMG) so have a great rest of the week and see you at the gathering! XD

Unless your hair is the same color and can easily be done in the same style, I would suggest a wig everytime.  It just makes getting ready so much easier, not to mention, it's always easier to style something in front of you than on your own head.  Also, your hair will change - you'll decide to grow it out, you'll want to cut it short, you'll decide you want a change and alter the color and then your perfect hair for that costume no longer works unless you change it back, so I still suggest a wig.  I know that for me, when I like my hair the way it is (color/cut/style) I don't want to color it for a costume, I would much rather use a wig.  Maybe part of it for me is that I just don't see wigs as being that expensive? (unless you go human hair, which was always my experience in wigs prior to cosplay)

I would say that the decision to use a wig or alter your own hair comes down to not just money.  It also comes down to styling time and whether or not you want your altered hair after the convention.  I'd style your hair in the manner of the character and decide 1) am I happy with the results and 2) and I happy with how difficult/time consuming/etc and 3) is my hair something I am happy with having when I go back to school/work/home/whatever.  If the answer to all three is yes, go with your hair.  If any of those is a no, go with a wig.  Hope that helps!

Chesid: I understand the lack of a budget, but I'm going to suggest that you NOT use the spray color.  1) It looks horrible.  but the more important is 2) It WILL rub off and stain your clothing. and 3) you'll still spend a good amount on getting enough to adequately cover your hair.  If I were ever in the position again of needing spray color to do a costume, I would either see if I could find a super cheap wig that still looked halfway acceptable, or I would put off wearing that particular costume until I could afford a decent wig.  Just an FYI re the spray color.

D : Ugh, tell me about it.
This is like the second time this's happened.
Karma has it in for me, I guess. xD;

But thank you, I'll at least stop by to chat!
I miss Saiyuki fans like a fish misses clean oceans.

Ginryuu : LOL OH I KNOW BBY. I KNOW.
Fortunately I'm pretty easy to find, I think?

ONE DAY. ONE. DAY. D8
I've just decided to slowly collect and make things in spurts,
because it seems like my luck when it comes to planning things for actual cons is growing weak.

You could also try to plan coming to the Saiyuki dinner with us as well <3  Just tossing out another idea ^_^  The more, the merrier!

Hope everyone is doing well!  Very excited and cannot wait for this gathering myself :D  We're all good to go, so it'll be nothing but fun <3

now just to get stuff done ^^;;;

I totally forgot that Gojyo cut his hair short after Gonou...how did I forget this??? XD;

Also? I need clones.  Then I could dress them all up in all of my Saiyuki costumes and I wouldn't have to choose which costume to do. XD  (and then everyone really could say that I can be my own gathering *g*)

I've updated the 1st post to make sure we've got everything up there.  If you see something I've missed, please let me know!

btw, does anyone recall the name of that Chinese place we went to last year?

Who's down with a short haired Gojyo? I'm down with a short haired Gojyo XD  (or you could show up as Gojyo in a past/future life *g*)  But yeah! Come on by anyway and hang out with us.  You're welcome to join us for dinner afterward, of course ^_^  The more, the merrier and we can always use a Gojyo in any incarnation <3

Hopefully everyone's projects are going well!  And RL, too <3  Can't wait to see everyone!

Hello D,

I am working on getting the dress code online so people can read it.  As of right now, with the shoes that you are describing in your posts I can comment on them a bit.  For the height of the heel, we are just worried about people being able to dance in them.  What we have seen in the past is where the heels are high and it is ok for the first 30 minutes to an hour but when people have tried to dance in high heels for a long period of time, their feet get tired and it leads to most people trying to dance barefoot.  The other thing is, when heels are high, the part that touches the floor ends almost in a point.  The pointed heels can damage the dance floor that we have for BWBall.  Dancing in heels can be difficult also and we want to minimize the risk of injury to the person who is wearing the heels as well as anyone around them.

Now that is a couple of the reasons behind the changes in the dress code for shoes.  Keep in mind that this is a semi-formal event and we would like people to dress to fit the semi-formal dresscode.  If you would like to wear boots with heels that is fine as long as it fits the semi-formal theme.  As for the height of the heel I feel that 4 inches would be the limit on the height for the heels.  Anything beyond that would be uncomfortable to dance in.  As far as the end of the heel that touches the floor, it cannot be less than 1/2 inch in diameter.  So those are the restrictions in regards to the heels.  I hope that helps.  An update on this will be coming out soon on the Fanime website.

We want everyone to enjoy their time at the BWBall.  The dress code is to keep up with the semi-formal theme of the evening but more importantly it is for the safety of yourself as well as other congoers.  If you have any further questions or concerns, email me me at [email protected] or you can post here.  Hope to see you at the Black and White Ball!

Thank you! This helps tremendously.  My dress shoes are out, then, as they fall within the 1/2" and are over 4", but I'll see if one of my other shoes will work and if I have questions, will send you pics for your opinion.  I also passed along the specs to my friend who is coming with me so she can plan as well.

Thanks muchly!

The outfits look ok.  Only suggestions would be please remember that this is a semi-formal event.  If your outfit shows your midriff, it will probably not be allowed in the BWBall.  The other thing that I would suggest is also to remember that this is a dance event also.  Although the sandals are part of the cosplay, you will not be able to dance in them very well and any shoe that is worn needs to have a strap or a backing to it so your foot stays in the shoe.  Also the platform shoes are not going to be allowed because they are boots and do not keep with the semi-formal theme.  Also, platform shoes that have a rubber bottom tend to mark up the floor so that is another reason we would probably not allow the shoes in.  My suggestion is to find dress shoes that are comfortable and non marking to wear to the ball.  You can can then take black material and wrap from your shoe up your leg to make it look like you have boots on. I think that is it for now. If you have any other questions, feel free to post here or email [email protected].  Thanks.

BWBall Head 2011

Hello,

Do you have a shoe dress code list (maybe even complete with pics) yet? And if not, will you please put one up as soon as you can?

I ask this because of the recent shoe comments.  First, there's no heels above 3", but then those could be okay as long as they aren't stiletto.  You are also taking away boots (it sounds as though even if they are nice boots).  My dress heels which were purchased specifically to go with my formal gowns are over 3" and could be considered a stiletto (though I do not consider them as such).  The knee high boots I have to go with my cocktail dress are also over 3" and are boots.  I do have a pair of black patent leather booties (looks like a shoe with a high heel), but they most definitely do not go with my gown, and, they are over 3".

Please let us know what to expect with the shoes so we can plan accordingly.  If it's that you want to make sure we are stable on our shoes, then is a walk-test prior to going in be sufficient?

Thanks!

So how's everyone doing?  Anything you guys are looking particularly forward to?  I'm excited about the Ball, personally.  And this gathering.  But I'm biased <3

And yes, this is a gratuitous post for a thread bump <3
