Adding to everyone's posts, I think Fanime is also particularly special to us San Jose/Bay Area natives who can refer to this convention as "our" hometown con and that in itself sets it apart from the all the others, at least for me anyways.

General Convention Discussion / fanime dance?
May 09, 2007, 12:32:10 PM
Quote from: "narutofan17"This will be my third time at fanime but I've never been to the dance. Is there a dress code. You know like the clubs have because I might have my costume on and I was wondering will I have enough time to change if there is a dress code. I'm also curious on what kind of music will be there. I'm open to all my music so it doesn't really matter to me. I just can't wait to go.

Dress Code: None, as long as your comfortable and not naked.

Genres of Music Played: Mixed, a vast majority is trance/techno/electronica oriented with Hip-Hop, R&B and Top 40.

Im hoping this year there is more of an equal balance in music though. It'll be a good time, just be sure to DANCE! There is no "Right" and "Wrong" way, just go with the flow. Hope to see you all there.

So, is there any official word on the list of games being provided by OCE this year?

Gaming / Tekken 5?

There will not be any tournaments on the arcade cabinets however console tournament is yet to be mentioned officially however there are some people hosting suite tournaments and events, heres a link to one:
http://forums.fanime.com/viewtopic.php?t=6688

If youre looking for definite competition in Tekken and/or SC, find the board member "Ohsu." Cool guy, local poster on the forums, I think he plays more KOF nowadays though, he'll probably be around the arcade a good deal of the time, if he attends again this year. Beware,   .

General Convention Discussion / Chancre Scolex
May 07, 2007, 11:14:25 AM
In the years past I cant say that I saw him around however I really wasnt looking nor do I recall him being a guest at any point. I know he was at WonderCon just this year and back in 05 he attended Alternative Press Expo in the City and Comic Con down south. Im sure you already do but if you dont, scope his blog and maybe he'll mention his attendance as some upcoming events:
http://chancrescolex.livejournal.com/

Or you can check his publisher's website for upcoming conventions and signings:
http://www.slavelabor.com/info-exec/display/company_info

You might get lucky as a fan.

KyoKun06456046406blahblah, now Im not bombing on you and yours Im sure youve put alot of effort into your music if what staff says is true but come on, youve got to give credit where credit is due.

I appreciate all the planning and involvement it took these staffers and volunteers to pull off not only this years musicfest but the convention in general. Sure we all want to see big names now and again but money and scheduling are always big factors. Next year I hope to get involved with Staff so that I can stop ranting and start helping, actions speak louder than words.

This year's lineup looks very promising and I really think they did listen to the people and their suggestions, I know my rants were heard as I recall suggesting that they stick to a certain genre of music to keep the flow moving (i.e. rock oriented, pop oriented, etc) and the energy high because last year the flip flop between experimental electronica, alternative, rap and soulful rock kinda threw me and others.

Im definitely looking forward to Lemon DropKick, they've played PMX and AX, theyre definitely worth checking out. Mechanical Panda too, Im stoked to catch their show as well. ZZ, always a favorite and the rest will be an adventure. Nice job Staffers, keep up the good work, there are people out there who appreciate your work.

So do we have a tentative DJ Lineup and/or schedule yet?

IIDX

Yeah that won't happen. If OCE could track down a Beatmania III: The Final machine (not 7th mix I play that like every other day.) that would also be alright. Since I already have the floppy drives for Sozai mode.

I dunno if everyone's read it or not, but Dave and Buster's is considering the purchase of IIDX GOLD in their locations nationwide (aparrently they loved it at ASI in Vegas.)
Since I'm drinkin' age, and a devoted follower towards IIDX god-tier status, I believe this would be the nail in golfland's coffin for me.

I know, its awesome huh? They already have PIU:ZERO there, which is great when I feel like playing late nights.

Quote from: "gmontem"I have no strategy in Super Puzzle Fighter 2.  All I do is play at the fastest setting and drop items as quickly as possible.  Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. I'd say my playing style for this game is analogous to button mashing in fighting games. XD

Haha, I do that too and sometimes I win. Good analogy to button mashing.

It might have been said before but Id really like to see Ramen and Rice perform another classical medley this year. In 2005 they did and it was awesome, especially their rendition of Haruka Kanata, Id pay to hear it again.

Side note: It kind of sucks that I wont be able to see ZZ because I didnt pre-register. Its my fault for slacking so long   .

Quote from: "arcadiapandora"Puzzle Fighters II!

Please god, bring in a puzzle fighters machine. I promise you will get every spare quarter I have. I love that game, and it'd be nice to get some competition once in awhile.
Ill bring my Sister, she'll give you some competition. She plays that alot, in fact I dont think Ive ever seen her lose at MGL but then again only guys who think they can hook up with her try playing her but she really is pretty good.

Gaming / Tourneys on arcade cabs for 2007?
March 21, 2007, 03:38:33 PM
In all honestly, Im not really in favor of any tourneys on the cabs but only because Im greedy and would rather play a free for all the entire con without waiting forever in a bracket (not that the quater lines are too much better,) I enjoy clawing my way to the top each and everytime someone tries to knock me off whether it be a fighter or a rhythm game. Console maybe, because Id bring my own stick or controller, etc but the cabs would always be free.

Things in the Universe / the "Ask Otaku" thread

Quote from: "LadyKaren"I feel so alone without Otakui...

How will all my questions get answered?

I will never know what socks I should wear?
Or what the time is on the moon?
Or anything!

I cant make choices by myself.

1. Ill answer them for you.
2. Wear the white ones, if you dont own white ones, buy some.
3. Google it.

Question: Where the hell can I find the MINI version of the old school HomeRun Pies? I know they exist.

Gaming / Other dance games

Quote from: "Khaistyle"Honestly, Peter. Who plays dancing games?
Dance games? When did they invent those?

Im pretty sure Ive mentioned this several times before but lets be sure to have 3S and CvS2. DDR, ITG or Pump, it doesnt matter anymore, its just for fun, Noobs and Veterans alike will play them regardless; however, my preference is for DDR. If they have SN, then Ill play SN if they have Extreme then Ill play Extreme but I dont like to get that sweaty anymore.

Small reminder: Leave Para to the girls, guys burn my retnas when theyre on that machine. Cop some rhythm too, Ill watch Sony if I want to see Robots do Velfare.

Live Programming and Events / Fanime Dance stuff.
March 01, 2007, 10:52:32 AM
I really think theyre should be a broader mix, its been a scene focused on primarily electronica/techno oriented music. Now dont get me wrong, I enjoy those genres a great deal but I enjoy R&B, Rap and Hip Hop just as much. A little FUNK would be good to get your groove on with. Some old school freestyle as well, which combines electronic elements with old R&B flare would also be nice. DJs last year did a decent job, nobody can really blame them because they were hired to play what they specialize in but this year Im hoping for the return of DJ-8Ball.
