Same rules as always!

- Post a variety of types of guests (though there is a Musicfest guests thead)
- Post guests that Fanime realistically has a chance of bringing out (so no one too big or too expensive)
- Post guests that still exist (you have no idea how many times I've seen people request broken up bands, dead celebrities, etc.)
- Post guests that people will actually want to see
- You can post your ~dream guests~, but keep in mind that not everyone is suitable as a guest for Fanime (so note it in your post if it is less realistic and don't get into fights over whether a guest is reasonable or not -- civil disscussion of the suitability of a guest, fine, "OMG U HAV 2 BRING OUT MALICE MIZER U SUXXORZ IF U HATE ON THEM  >:(  >:(  >:(" is not)

Is there a way for Fanime Guest Relations Staffing to invite him over to Fanime Con 2011?  I already met him at last years Anime Expo 2010 and he is a very nice and funny guy when I got to know him at their meet the guest reception.

Just a suggestion if Fanime Con 2011 can pull off this miracle as I want other fans to enjoy his company.

Nice List :) Suda 51 would prolly be the funniest, but David Hayter has been known to be surprisely funny as well..
As for me there are alot of people I would like to see at the Con, but the one I'd say is at the top of my list is Utada Hikaru. If she came to Fanime2012...It would be epic ;D

P.S. I'd also take UVERworld or Shing02

I know people have been requesting LittleKuriboh and TGWTG/Doug Walker for a long time. Maybe not suitable for guests of honor, but maybe good for a panel or two. I know this year we have JewWario and Psychotaku, but I'd be super excited if we got to see Doug himself. :D

Second this! Although I didn't know JewWario was coming, that's pretty awesome too.

A long shot, but I'd love to see the Video Games Awesome guys (or at least Fraser). I'd be really interested in seeing a panel on how he sets all of it up and puts the videos together.

It probably would be a long-shot, but I'd love to get Doug Walker, or (since he's one state over instead of being in Chicago) perhaps even Noah Antweiler/Spoony. Now THAT would be amazing. I'm also excited that JewWario'll be there this year! Good catch!

Hi all,

I hate to be a downer, but - we're not even done with 2011! ^_^;

Unfortunately I won't be of much help here, since I'm stepping down this year, but I'll make sure to pass the word to the next Chair. In the meantime, you can always get in touch with the GR department, and they may be able to make things happen. They will be closely monitoring this and other threads throughout the year!

Just a reminder for those of you who like to directly contact people you'd like to see at FanimeCon: Please please please never give them the impression that you are part of FanimeCon Guest Relations if you're not or say things like "FanimeCon would love to have you." Contacting guests is the job of GR and things could get messy if attendees start doing it as well. We of course don't mind attendees asking people "Would you be interested in coming to FanimeCon?" but just please don't give them any potentially false impressions.

That aside, keep the suggestions coming! :D
(Please keep in mind that GR does not handle MusicFes guests so you may want to post any music guest suggestions over in the MusicFest thread.)

My friend had wanted to see him so desperately, but she wanted to go to MusicFest (In her logic, FLOW+Yuya > YOSHIKI). Because YOSHIKI's flight was delayed (or something along those lines, is what I heard), his session was moved from 4 to 6, which is pretty much when MusicFest began to get started. :( Next time around, hopefully, she'll be able to see him.

He is not only hot, has a beautiful voice, and famous in multiple countries, but was also the model for Cloud (Final Fantasy), Gakupo (Vocaloid), was brought into Kamen Rider Decade, and even had his debut with S.K.I.N. (including Miyavi) at Anime Expo...

On a more realistic note, I'd like to bring Yuya back? Okay, I know people dont always like it when a person is repeated, but I and many others weren't able to get an autograoh from him because we missed the times for the autograph session... since there wasnt a schedule... It almost seemed unfair... Can we bring him back? (;´ρ`)

Ok, I'm confused about something. The weekend before FanimeCon was Big Wow Comic Fest. Vic Mignogna was one of the guests in attendance. He said that Fanime had asked him to attend, but he had a prior commitment to a con in Phoenix. However, he DID say he would be attending Fanime 2012. AWESOME.

Here's the problem.

When I was attending one of Seiji Mizushima's autograph sessions (Sunday I believe) I asked one of the Staff about that, and he said that Fanime usually DOES NOT reach out to domestic (English) Voice Actors as guests and is more international guest oriented. Also, he said that Vic Mignogna would have to ask Fanime to attend as a guest.

So...does this mean that some information has been mixed up? Is Vic Mignogna NOT attending in 2012, or is this guy just talking about stuff he doesn't know about?

2. Why do you want Vic to go to Fanime? He goes to like... every con in existance, if you want to see him, why not go to AX since he goes... every single year.

I'm pretty sure that (not just fanime but,) every convention's guest committee has to be the one to invite a voice actor, director, etc in order for them to be a guest in their con. Also I would not be surprised if Vic did asked to be a guest at Fanime since I've heard at one point he invited himself to Anime North 2010 which I also heard made the staff there uneasy. Don't know if its true or not.

That story is incorrect. We do reach out to domestic guests. We talked to quite a few this year, including Vic. He could not attend due to scheduling, unfortunately. (It was pretty surreal to see him show up at the final staff meeting, though. I hope he enjoyed the cookies.)

Ah, I see. That's what I was wondering. So, when Vic said he'll be at Fanime 2012...would that be true then? And does Fanime have rules about gifts fans give to guests?

The gift policy is usually entirely up to the guest and their management. I'm pretty sure it's rather lax for domestic guests (as there are no customs that'll forbid them from traveling with flowers and other live things--if they're not flying, etc.) in comparison to those that Fanime brings in from overseas. As for either getting to hand them your gift personally or through their manager...that's also up to them >>

In that case then I would also like it if the veteran voice actress Jennifer Hale could be invited next year to Fanimecon as well as Helena Taylor the VA who did Bayonetta.

Ok! I just recieved an e-mail from Vic Mignogna. I had asked him about the situation with Fanime 2012, and this is a direct quote from the email.

So there you have it. PLEASE STAFF! INVITE VIC MIGNOGNA AGAIN! He said himself he'd come for 2012 if he's asked. And staff needs to ask him ASAP, because his schedule fills up FAST. He was booked for Winter Sac Anime 2012 almost a year in advance. He wants to come, so it ALL DEPENDS ON STAFF NOW.

I can't comment on GR's process, but your request for Vic has been acknowledged.

I second having Tohru Furuya back...he was cool. :D I also second having Naoko Takeuchi.

In addition, if at all possible, maybe you guys could pull Shuichi Ikeda, Nobuo Tobita, or even Yoshiyuki Tomino (although he might be too much of a stretch o_O).

As for North American VA's, maybe you could get Brad Swaile, Michael Kopsa, and/or Matt Hill.

Well let's see here... Todd Haberkorn replied to my wallpost and he said "Not completely!" However, I didn't contact with Caitlin and Greg to be request to go to Fanime . If you do me a favor if you can try to contact Greg or Caitlin ? Kbaai . You would be planning for Hetalia or Soul Eater panel for next year, right ?

It would be really awesome if you guys brought Andrew Hussie!!! He created webcomics such as Problem Sleuth and his current work Homestuck is really amazing and it has a strong fanbase *u* it would make my con~

I do not want to see any US dub guests.  If I had a choice between a Japanese guest and a US guest, I'd want the Japanese guest, even if they've already been to Fanime in the past.  I'd rather have Mamoru Yokota again than, say, Vic Mignogna.  And, I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Hmmm...guests...well, since this is a wishlist, I'll be extravagant and perhaps as unrealistic as possible.



- Naoko Takeuchi - Fanime would easily earn "Best Convention" status with this guest.

- Yoshiyuki Sadamoto - Because Eva is always popular.  And because it'll be 9 years since he's shown up.

- Chiho Saito    -  Utena...

- Rui Araizumi   -  Wouldn't mind having a Lina sketch from her.

Shoko Conami - Shinobi Life creator

Nobuhiro Watsuki - Ruroni Kenshin creator

I was really impressed with Kazue Yamamoto, Alpha, Akihiko Yamashita, Miho Shimogasa & Izumi Matsumoto.  All these artists really seemed to give their all, especially Matsumoto who didn't look like he was doing so well (but still making sure that everyone on the last day of AX walked away with a sketch).  In terms of artists, I would like Fanime to invite guests that love to draw and are willing to do it for their fans, just like the crop of artists that Fanime invited in 2011.

You're right cutiebunny you're not the only one who feels that way. But if fanime ever do get US guests, then I want those who have either never been to or rarely ever go to conventions. Nothing against guests who regularly go to cons.

The core audience of US dubs would go to a convention anyways, regardless of having a US guest or not.  Dub audiences tend to be tweens/teens, and they'll go to a convention to hang out with friends, watch anime and spend some cash in the dealer's room.  Fanime doesn't need to invite US guests because those that would flock to them would go to the convention anyways.

The older audience, and what typically are your raw/sub fans, are far more critical.  If you want to draw them and their pocketbooks, you need to have things that they'll enjoy and that includes having Japanese guests.  I think part of the reason many of the older fans showed up this year was simply because Fanime lined up so many *good* Japanese guests.  Several of these fans commented that it had been years since they had attended Fanime and many of them were there because Yoshimatsu & Iida were guests.  Comparatively, the prices of items at the charity auctions also went much higher when compared to the previous year because Fanime had succeeded in drawing out an older and less cash strapped fanbase.

I've never worked at a convention, and I'm sure there's a delicate method in which a convention chooses guests to invite.  But as money is a factor, I would be willing to bet that Fanime will continue to favor Japanese guests over US guests as long as its patrons are willing to pay $$$ to see them.

In terms of monetary reasoning, pulling a JP guest is more likely to draw more people than a US guest would. But, would the price of brining a US guest directly coorolate with how many attendees would come for that guest?

Arbitrary number... 6k to bring a guest to fanime. 45$ badges. Raw numbers, that gues would have to draw 134 people to the convention that absolutely would not have come had it not been for that guest. Of course raw costs aren't correct because there's lots of other stuff involved, but you get the idea. Now comparatively... a US guest would be a fraction of that cost... let's say 1000$. 22 attendees.

So the whole US guests are better or JP guests are better for the con is really a dumb argument as it's pretty near impossible to gauge. There's no way to know just how many guest came solely for X guest or Y guest. Maybe it was a combination of the two?

None of this matters at all(though I love number arguments). What it comes down to is the process of choosing guest is actually really long and complicated and has no real basis that is followed. GR and stuff don't sit there and go "If we bring X guest, we will make X% more attendees theorhetically than y guest nor will bringing Z guest result in in making more in this way. It comes down to. "We have this much for our budget... who can we get that is available that we think will be popular, will have a good time, and will enjoy the convention and be fun to have.

I.E. while Momoi isn't the most attendee drawing guest, she LOVES the con, she interacts with attendees, she walks the halls and takes pictures of cosplayers, with people. FLOW was playing Air Hockey with people, talking to fans, and just messing around and having a good time a lot of the con. Now compare that with AX where, they had the SOS-dan. Sure... they probably drew a huge group of attendees... but their visit consisted of a really badly done panel, an autograph signing that ended in thousands of people getting pissed off for waiting in line over 10 hours to walk away with nothing, and a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE 40 min concert that was more advertising for Bang Zoon than a concert. Outside of those things, the guests were never seen at all.

I know this has been mentioned at least once before so forgive me for beating a dead horse, but seeing on how popular they've become in recent years I think it'd be a good idea if Fanime could invite someone from the abridging community.

An abridger that I'd especially want to see is Martin Billany, better known by his screen name LittleKuriboh (or CardGamesFTW). He is the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, and was the first to make an abridged series.  He also lives right here in California and he released a new YGO Abridged movie this November so this would be an opportune time to have him as a guest. 

^ just to add, LK also just got married to anime and game voice actress Marianne Miller and usually travels to cons together. You can invite other abridgers too, like ShadyVox (Jaden from YGOGXTAS) and Team FourStar.

Yuyoyuppe - A Japanese music producer and singer, he's gained fame for remixing music from the Touhou games, and for composing songs with the Vocaloid system. Also, he's in a couple bands, and he's friends with other NicoNico/Vocaloid singers.

Christopher Smith has said that he would come up if invited.
He's done tons of great shows like Gurren Laggen, Bleach, FMA movie, and many more including Superman in "DC vs Mortal Combat."

Other voice actors would be greatly appreciated.  I mention Chris by name, because I know him. 

I second or third or whatever the number it's up to about Little Kuriboh. 

Personally, I'm all for anyone who is entertaining to go see... I like to laugh. That being said, I would also love to see anyone who had anything to do with the anime Fairy Tail, seeing as that is one of my favorite animes. ;D As for any specifics... Yasuharu Takanashi would be one. I'm absolutely in love with his music from Fairy Tail. And as I stated in the music request thread, I would love On/Off to be there. Other than that, I'm not too picky... As long as I have fun seeing the guests and have at least heard something of them, I'll be happy with what I get. :D

Since Fanime hasn't had a lot of English voice actors recently, I think it'd be great if you invited some!

With all this talk of Rueben Langdon, Laura Bailey, Liam O'Brian (forgive my inevitable mispells)- I'd like to point out D.C. Douglas again. He wasn't there for the RE panel, but ought to have been, being the voice of Wesker and all, and he's worked with all of or most of who I just mentioned. Plus he's an all-around super-nice and funny guy. (He's in Ohio at a con as I write this.)

Tis ok. xDD I don't remember when they announced others, though, but I'm pretty sure Yuya was the first one. o.O And I remember my flailing and almost dying of a heart attack when I found out. Nah, ok, so maybe I didn't almost die, but, I was flailing. XDDD

I thought I'd post this in since we're umpteen days into the con. I do know that Jew Wario and the Pyscho Otaku crew usually hit up Fanime. I know I've seen several posts wanting to see Channel Awesome represented at Fanime. I think it's about time a West Coast con should have people from this well known site as guests. Lots of MidWest and East Coast cons have members of Channel Awesome as guests.

Jew Wario, Psycho Otaku, and Psycho Neko do have much to do with Fanime's mission statement. They are fans creating fan videos for fans. Much of their material appeals to Fanime's main target audience - import games, super sentai, and everything anime. Last year, when they did their panel, they were mobbed by Channel Awesome fans.

I would kindly request Fanime Con 2012 make these dedicated fans guests of honor - their contribution to the anime / J-pop culture community is worthy enough to be guests.

I know I have mentioned this last year clones, but has anyone talked to Daigo Umehara about Fanime yet.
