"Crossover character cosplays featured in GBF are welcome as well, from Dragalia Lost, Rage of Bahamut, Shadowverse, etc., or from any of the 92734947 collabs (yes, Joker Persona 5 would be hilarious)"

If I had the time and ability, I would make Cinnamoroll in his little Algovale cosplay

Hotel- Hilton

First time staying in a hotel connected to the convention center!

Pros
- Staff was super friendly
- Room was comfortable.
- Lighting in the bathroom was like intense.  It was a bit jarring at first, but it was actually great for putting on make up!
- Mini fridge actually did it's job and kept things cold.
- They had this offer where for each day you declined house keeping, you would get a 5 dollar off voucher for their restaurant.   I saved all of them for the last day and treated myself to dinner
-And of course, location.

Cons

-The elevators broke down on Saturday, I believe? All of them.  So yeah. That was a thing.

- It is a bit of a walk to get to restaurants and such. Though personally I enjoyed the walking.  I know it might be a turn off for some people.

other

I flew in and took a cab from the airport, so I really can't comment on how parking was

All together other than the elevator it was a really pleasant experience!  Would recommend

I'm from Colorado, so I really can't give recommendations for places in California.. but I would say check out your local libraries!

The library district where I'm from has "Maker Spaces"  and they have everything from sewing machines, sergers, embroidery machines, 3D Printers and more.

Also fabric and craft stores will often have studios for classes and projects.  I know there's a fabric store here that hosts a "cosplay day" where people come in and use the space to work on projects.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Hotel stay 2018 feedback

So here's my less than timely hotel review.

So 2018 was my first year staying at the Hyatt and it was a bit of a mixed bag.

Pros

I arrived on Thursday and was able to check into my room with no issue.

Free Breakfast*

Free  Wi-Fi*

Proximity to the con.

Most of the staff was pretty nice.

Cons

The bathroom was TINY.  there was also no counter space in the bathroom which made doing make up fun /sarcasm.

The room door didn't close all the way, so you had to pull it to get it to actually close and lock.

The smoke alarm fell off the wall twice.

While the free breakfast was nice, they only gave you two tickets per day.  Meaning only two people could get breakfast.  ( I ended up smuggling food up to my roomies o3o; )

Maybe I was in a bad location, or maybe they were just overloaded, but I could not connect to the wi fi at all.

Actually, I think that may be incorrect.

From what I know the deposit and incidental fee are two separate charges.

From my email:

PRE-ARRIVAL DEPOSIT POLICY: Please note that most hotels will either charge or authorize your credit or debit card for one night's room and tax up to 3 weeks prior to your arrival date.

HOTEL DEPOSIT POLICY: Please note that at check-in, your hotel will require full payment of your room and tax for all nights plus an additional deposit of up to $100.00 per room/per night. Hotels will accept all major credit/debit cards. Most hotels accept cash and checks but you should check with your confirmed hotel directly prior to arrival if you will be paying by cash or check to ensure that they will accept it. Hotels reserve the right to determine which forms of payment they will accept, including cash.

The pre-arrival deposit is non refundable.   The Hotel deposit, AKA the incidental fee will be returned to you so long as there are no damages to the room.    However I could be wrong, so if anyone could chip in, that would be great.

No, you can not.  It says on the registration FAQ

Q: I can't make it to the hours of Registration — can I have a friend pick up my badge for me?
A: We do not allow other people to pick up other people's badges for them. This is a safety measure to ensure you get your badge.

In need of a room for Thursday night!

Introduction-  My name is Michele.  I've been going to Fanime from Colorado for a few years now.  I'm female and I'll be 34 by the time of the con.

Hotel Information:  I only need a room for Thursday.  I have a hotel reservation of my own Friday-Tuesday, but this year I'm wanting to try coming out on Thursday.  My room is at the Hyatt Place.  So I would prefer to be at that hotel, or at the very least one of the hotels in the immediate area so I don't have to move my luggage that far.

Requirements:  I would prefer a room that's all female.  I'm also willing to pay extra for bed space, but I'll be fine if I'm thrown a blanket and pillow to make a nest on the floor

Contact: Please contact me through PM on the forums!

Registration / Re: 2018 Reg Opens Nov 7th

It was.. iffy for me, to say the least.

Like a lot of other people, I was clicking reload on the website, and when it finally loaded the register now link wasn't working.  So I immediately went to facebook to see if there was any news and found the link there.  I AM upset that there wasn't any information about the link not being on their main site, but at the same time I was also able to get my registration finished by about 5 minutes after noon so not too bad, I think.

I wish I knew what the time frames for the housing blocks were.  As in what gets you into what housing window.  Is it by minute? hour? day?  Oh well.. at the very least I have a few months to steel my nerves for hotel reservations.

ROOMMATE NEEDED!

+ Introduction: Hello~ My name is Michele ( I also go by Michi or just Mii ) I'm a 33 year old female from Colorado, and I've been flying out to attend Fanime for a few years now ( 4.. 5 years?)  My interests are baking, Lolita fashion, magical girls, horror rpgmaker games, moe animu, being in idol hell (Love Live), JRPGS (Mostly Gust) and the Fate/ franchise.    I'm fairly easy going but I do suffer from anxiety/depression.

I'm looking for 1 more roommate, there will be 5 people in the room including myself.

+ Hotel Information: I have a room with a King Size bed and roll away at the Fairmont Hotel from Friday-Tuesday.  Which means that on Monday, you won't have to worry about packing early and dealing with the checkout lines and elevator rush.

Since it's a king size bed, we should be able to fit 3 people on there.  For the roll away it would be $15 extra per person, or we can just plan to have two people bring an air matress or sleeping bags

+ Costs:  The cost will be $121 per person.  I will require the money through paypal at LEAST 1 WEEK BEFORE THE CONVENTION.
Please bring a bit extra in the event we decide to get a roll away bed

+ Requirements:
- You must be DFAB (designated female at birth).  FTM trans is fine as in nonbinary.
- Respect the property of the hotel and the belongings of others in the room.
-No smoking.
- No drug use or underage drinking
- If you are old enough to drink, please do not come back wasted.
- Keep things reasonably clean.  Like enough that people can find stuff and safely move around the room.
- DO NOT GIVE YOUR KEYCARD TO ANYONE.
- if coming in late (after midnight) please be quiet.  A light will be left on for you.
- Shower! Bathe! Take care of yourself!  Eat a veggie!
- Do not touch the mini fridge!  There are sensors and if anything in it is moved, it will charge for it.

+ Contact: You can contact me through the PM on the forums, or email me at [email protected]
or message me on tumblr. (http://hakohime.tumblr.com/)

+ Other:   I'll be flying in and should arrive at the hotel around 11 AM-Noon.  I will keep in contact with everyone about when I arrive.

- I have a tradition of buying a small cake from the Bijan Bakery for the room on Sunday!  If you have any allergies/restrictions please tell me!

- I'll have a first aid kit that everyone will be welcome to use if needed

Filled as of now

In the past there has always been an official Fanime hotel wait-list for those that did not get the hotel of their choice (or possibly didn't even get a room) to sign up on in case of cancellations. I have not been able to find info about a hotel wait-list either on the site or the forums for 2017. Did I miss something or is there no hotel wait-list this year?

Waitlist buttons are on the right

Need a room for Thursday only!
+ Introduction: Introductions huh? Well my name is Michele, I'm 33 years old. and I've been flying out to Fanime from Colorado for about 6 years now?  I tend to be quiet (shy) I don't smoke, I like cute stuff and I talk about my cat a lot.

+ Hotel Information: I only need a room for Thursday night.  The Fairmont would be preferred since my room is there as well! Saves me on having to lug my luggage too far.

+ Requirements: Nothing much, I would prefer a room that isn't too crowded.  Bed space would be nice, but I should be fine if you throw me a pillow and blanket.  Female only room is also preferred

+ Contact:  You can reach me through the PM system on this forum, or email me at [email protected]

Only question I have is if there is any advice to get out of paying deposit fees.

Legal advice? None.  Hotels charge them to cover their butts.  The only assurance is that if you don't trash your room you'll get the money credited back to your account.

Managed to get my room despite being a bit late!  Freaked out since I got time zones and such mixed up

Took a lot of refreshing (like a LOT) but it was actually fairly pain free.

I fail to see how you could have been coerced into giving away your EBT card.

Coerced-persuade (an unwilling person) to do something by using force or threats.

So what did they threaten you with? .. Not being able to attend the con?   I'm actually serious about this question.  How were you "coerced" as you put it?

You couldn't pay.  The staff allowed you to get a new badge FOR free.

And you didn't answer the question.. during Fanime, did you make any attempt to get your EBT card back? Because, like I said before, even without your badge, you should have still been able to get it back ( I assume your EBT card has your name on it, correct?) by showing your ID.   Now then, if you went to the staff, showed them your ID and asked for your EBT card back.. and they refused, then you have all the right to complain!  But as your story goes.. you made no attempt to get your card back until now.

( Also, personally I live well under the poverty line, and I'm on welfare.  I manage to go to Fanime by saving up, doing jobs like baking, house sitting, pet sitting, etc, and using part of my tax return after I pay for necessities or any home repairs.  So I hardly have contempt for the poor.  I just have contempt for people who have bad attitudes. )

So, I'm in agreement with drzoidburg, and I have a few things that I would like to add.

1. The staff did you a favor.  They allowed you to get a new badge without having to pay for it.   How were you forced to hand over your EBT card?  The way I see it.. what most likely happened was you went, gave some sob story about how you can't afford a new badge, and someone was kind enough to give you one. Even if collateral was involved.. that's not forced.  You agreed to it.

2. Unless you made a scene, I highly doubt that they threatened to call security.  Avoiding this would have been simple.
Don't meet the dress code? Oh well. Like go back to the hotel and watch a movie? meander the con hall? Maybe politely ask if there's anything you could have done to meet the dress code?  ( By the way, using words like "gestapo" making comments about someone's weight, and saying that people look liked they got their clothing from a sex shop is.. well quite vulgar )

3.  You claim that a staff member used underhanded means to confiscate your badge (without warning and without consent ).... They don't NEED your consent to take your badge.  it says right on the back of it that qualified staff may revoke your badge and access to the convention at ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON.

4. You're missing the part of the story where you made an effort to get your EBT card back.  Because even without your badge, it would have been as simple as going to registration, showing your ID and explaining your situation.   .. Unless your going to claim that you have no ID.
