Sounds interesting, some of my favorite anime characters are from Osaka (Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama from Detective Conan and Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga from Azumanga Daioh).  Your panels are at the late hours!  (I'm also interested in the Kimoi/Kawaii panel)

Ooooo nice nice! I'll definitely be talking about Osakan characters in anime/manga as well as its depiction in them.

Yea I was hoping I could've gotten my hours to be a bit earlier like around 7pm or so - but it ended up being late hours. Oh well - hopefully people will still be able to come on by. It'll make for a great talk at late night though!

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great day thus far, I'm sure you all can't wait for Fanime.

Japan is known for being the place of "kawaii" - everything is cute, bubbly and just so...for a lack of a better term "kawaii."
But what about its darker side? Does it even have a dark side?? Yes - it absolutely does. This dark side can be described with the
terms: "Kimoi" and "Kowai." From the random fetish service industries in the red light district of Kabukicho to the serial murders and ghost stories, there is quite a bit of darkness in Japan.

Please do stop on by in case if you're interested - and don't worry it won't be all so grim. There are quite a few humorous aspects to the Kimoi and Kowai as well.

Panels and Workshops / A Panel all about Osaka

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing well and excited for Fanime which is just a few weeks away.

I just wanted to leave a post to let you all know that I will be having a panel about a city of Japan that's not too well publicized known as Osaka.
I will be discussing all sorts of things such as how Osaka is THE city where Japan gets most of its comic relief from, how most crime in Japan originates from here,  and also how Osaka may play a big role in much of the anime/manga you watch and even western culture.

It's a really unique town that I'm quite passionate about - so I hope you all stop on by!

Osaka: Cries & Laughs of Japan
Sunday (05/28), 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Hope to see you all there!

Please leave a reply in case you have any questions or comments.

I would like to thank everyone who came to the fan event: Osaka: Cries & Laughs of Japan - from the bottom of my heart. Was an awesome experience to talk about my love of Osaka with you all. Thank you! See you all next Fanime!

Hi everyone!

I will be hosting a panel about Visual Kei.
Now interestingly enough - I noticed after all the events were posted up that there are 2 other panels
about V-Kei hosted by A-to-J connections - I totally recommend checking them out!

However I believe mine will primarily be about the basics/history/controversies surrounding Visual Kei.
It will be an in depth analysis of what the style of music in Japan has given us and how fans have influenced
it as well.

You will definitely see bands, listen to a bit of their music, their awesome sense of style, involvement with anime,
and also how the style has evolved over the years.

Please do come on by if you have the time!

Saturday - 10-11am @ Fairmont Atherton.

Please do come on by!

Takoyaki and the different accent are certainly a big part of Osakan culture - that's sort of the face of it!
I'll be really happy to talk about more as well - can't wait to see you there!

What is this panel about?

So there's lots of people who know about Tokyo (Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara).
With all its host bars, maid cafes, out of this world fashion,
otaku culture(コミケット/Comiket) and so on - we love it as it's our primary view of Japan.

However...
I don't think there's many out there in Fanime who know about Osaka.
...no not the character from Azumanga Daioh - I'm talking about the city.

The city is a very different culture compared to a place like Tokyo and different from what many
people consider to be "japanese culture" in general.

OSAKA is a city where the dark and funny of Japan collide together.

So those of you who are interested in the dark: Notorious Yakuza, serial killers, and cold blooded-murders
OR/AND
the funny side: Game shows, comedians, and lifestyle - I really hope you do come visit the panel.

The panel will take place from 6-8pm on Sunday, Fairmont Valley.
Please go ahead and reply down below if you have any questions - or comments in general!
