Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Winter Fanime.

If there was to be a second con it might do better in late fall. Possibly Halloween. Now that Yaoicon is gone from SF.

This year I'm going to be cosplaying Squigly (alt 1, listed below). I've gotten all the fabric I'll be using, I just wanted some advice on how to make leviathan.

I would recommend for leviathen a few different ways. The lightest way is use 20oz soda bottles. Cut off the ends and make plugs that you can pass thin wire through. If you want a plastic tube a little longer than a 20oz bottle look for tennis ball tubes. The wire can be gotten at Home depot or if you have a bunch of old wire coat hangers lying around that could work too.

The other two materials you could try to make the sections of the body are pvc piping or poster tubes.

One of the reasons I asked, was that I was wondering if this sort of footwear was acceptable. I mean it's in essence a pair of flip flops, and I am guessing that even if they are ok, that Rovers will stop me (Which I'm ok with, they are doing their job.) I just wanted some confirmation either way as to whether they are ok. I don't want one Rover to say its cool, and another to say it's not. It gets confusing.

Holy shitake those are both amazing and easy. So stealing this idea for a few costumes I had in mind.

The other thing to remember is there is a mandatory practice typically, but it's been to long for me to remember when that was held.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Complaints for housing

What most people don't know about the placards is that there is a certificate from the DMV that comes with it that says the disability and who it belongs to. With that said outside of a law enforcement officer under the scope of their job it's not really ok for people to request it.

Unfortunately the disabled band wagon has been jumped on by so many people that feel entitled even places like Disneyland have had to do re-evaluations of their policies. Due to this it's hard for those that legitmately need it to be able to use it.

Indeed, I once asked a staffer or con chair (I can't remember) about having choices of images for badges.

He told me "join Staff." XD

That is one of the benefits of joining staff is the customized art. Can you imagine the time it would take if they had to do it for 25k instead of a single k though.

The only provlem i see with doing it this way is thoes who want their hotel for all weekend.

Typically you can get whole weekend, but there are blocks of rooms released at the different times. So if you miss Marriott on the first round but go Fairmont you could try the second time to get Marriott.

Ill tell u right now. DAY ZERO IS NOT WORTH IT.  hint: get your badge early friday morning.

Because of the issues with picking up badges most of the Day0 events they don't even check for badges.

Anyone have any advice on how I would make Cheshire Cat's paws/claws from Madness Returns? I want to give them the creepy/boney feel to them.

It helps to know how realistic you want to go. Are you doing a gijinka, or are you doing furry, or some hybridized human version.

Just as a stab in the dark what I would do is get spray insulation foam from the HomeDepot. It comes in a can for $5. Spray it into a card board box lined with a plastic bag and then carve it down to what you want. You can even cut hand areas into it so you can wear them like gloves. When painted it simulates the texture relatively well, plus the slight give of the foam gives you that muscle over bone feel.

Unless you plan on getting to the convention in the afternoon and then stay through to the next morning (24-hour video rooms, gaming rooms, general hanging out) when the trains start again.

Not as fun as it sounds tried it my first year ('04) haven't done it since.

Cosplaying is fun and all, but there was one time I was rocking an awesome costume and I couldnt move more than 5ft every 10mins because of everyone wanting to take pictures. Ended up missing out on the panel I was trying to get to. There are pros and cons to all things.

Homestuck! / Re: Homestuck's Acceptance

There is another thread dealing with the general "Homestuck Hate". I'm indifferent. I don't follow the comic in all honesty, but if your into it and it makes you happy good for you. Plus looking back at Fanime you are just the latest in a long line of Fandoms.

Inuyasha
Naruto
Hetalia
Bronies
You Guys

There are probably more but those are the groups of ravenous fans I remember since '04

The moon dress in the picture is the Princess form from the flash backs. There is a Queen Serenity form, but unfortunately it is a lot tighter fitting. I suggested that one because it's elegant without being constrictive around the tummers. Also, it could be worn again even after the pregnancy.
