Who's going, and who are you going as? I'll be busting out my Zack Fair =D
Which one do you mean?
If you're referring to the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival, Japan Video has the forms available but no online reg.
There's a thread on Cosplay.com for it though, and someone posted the forms up so that you can fill out and fax in. That's how my husband and I registered!
..you can ignore this completely if it's not the SF one you mean ;)
Well, I'm going to the SF Cherry Blossom festival in April. =D I'll be Kairi, hopefully. >w<;;
I'm not to sure on what to cosplay as for the Cherry Blossom festival. But I'll be there.
I'll go.
I probably won't be at the cosplay parade this time; I'm gonna take a break and just have fun at the event and spend some time with friends. ^_^
I'll be there to take pics and hang out as usual.
I'll be there. Dont know about costumes yet.
I tend to go every year because my school helps out and such, but I'll probably be heading out with a group of friends. ;D
Probably gonna have to either switch or request the day off on the day of the parade.
Realized that because I was unsure what event we were talking about I gave only half an answer.
Going as Emeraldas, hubby will be Harlock. :)
Question...rumor has it folks have met up beforehand in Japantown to walk to the site, mostly to park. Is anyone here thinking of that as an option?
We are staying at the hotel the night before, and depending on how thing go we could join something like that.
Always good to post the dates and times. <.<
Regardless, I plan to try to go to this, this year. I didn't make it last year because a Fanime meeting fell on the same day that I could have gone on.

Sunday April 18th.
In front of City Hall where the ugly trees are (I can't give a better description of that area :( )
Cosplay Contest entrants arrive at 10 AM.
Parade only entrants arrive at Noon.
Parade begins at 1 PM
Plan for a couple hours. EDIT: Plan for a couple hours for the parade itself, longer if you want to do the costume contest and parade. Could be more or less depending on how on-time things begin, how well the parade moves through the area, if you win stuff in the cosplay contest and go onstage at the end, etc.
And of course, don't forget to register at Japan Video, especially if you are entering the costume contest. They're only taking 100 people for that part of things (only bring it up in case somebody isn't aware :) )
Me and a good friend of mine will be entering a BlazBlue duo =D hoping its going to be a lot cooler than it was last year XD
lul, I'll probably be going, not sure which day or if cosplaying though :P
There is just so much to do this year so I doubt I'll be going in costume. I will be there to cheer you all one though!
Well I don't think I'm able to go, anymore. D: I'm so sorry, you guys. ><
I might go...
Me and my friends wanna go xD
If I do go, I'll either go in lolita or as Xion from KH :]
Am hoping to make it there this year (was checking at JVideo for the forms but then went out of town for business and won't be put to Japantown til next weekend). Even if I can't enter the contest, I want to be in the parade. Not sure what my cosplay will be yet tho. And I usually park at Japantown early, then walk over to city hall to meet up with others.
I'll definitely go if Im in town that weekend. How can I say no to fanime nerds taking over japan town...well I mean more so than usual
I'll be attending; with hopes of Black Rock Shooter. It's getting much closer now but I'm still waiting on my commissioner (whose my best friend) to finish BRS's coat.
I will be attending but I'm debating on Cosplay. Since I live right next to Japantown in SF at the current moment. If anyone hasn't been who needs a hand in getting around I would love to be a tour guide. :3 I've lived here for almost 3 years.
I have never been to the Cherry Blossom Festival even though I lived in SF.
Definitely going this year though mainly to take pictures.
CHANGE OF PLANS! I CAN GO!!!!!!!! ;D ;D

Between that group, and the upwards of 200 folks that will do the parade on the 18th? I think you'll have plenty of people who will know the area and can get you comfortable with it!
I miss living in SF sometimes...and one of the things I do miss is being able to walk to both Japantown AND Chinatown (I lived off of the California cable car line for several years).

Thanks you two! That makes me feel a lot more comfortable about going especially because I don't know the area at all.
Well now I'm really excited about going! :D
I just need someone to point me in the direction of the food.
I'll be there to take pictures. Will people be cosplaying on parade day only or will I see people dressed up throughout the other days?

According to the new schedule that just came out at the nccbf.org site, the Food Bazaar is on Webster. There is also the stuff that is in the mall itself, but the Festival may make those places kind of busy because they are sit-down.
QuoteI'll be there to take pictures. Will people be cosplaying on parade day only or will I see people dressed up throughout the other days?
I recall seeing photos of people coming up that were for the festival but not for the parade, and on days that were not parade day, but I think the turnout is a lot smaller and you never know where you can expect to find them.

Woohoo! I do think you'll like it... I've found the parade to be a lot more relaxing in many ways than a convention. I'm geared up for it because I've had to skip the last two years (which was a bummer, but Real Life happens!).
Well, seems I am going both weekends of the CBF. ^^ I'll be there in the 11th and the 18th. :D Here's my planned cosplays:
11th: Bunny Lolita
18th: Kairi
If I don't have Kairi in time for the 18th, I'll be Konoka. :)
Ok so I don't know what to expect, but I'm already excited about going!

I found this on Google a little while back..posted it to Cosplay as well...it's a time-lapse film, about 30 seconds, of the parade as taken from the end of the walk, looking down Post Street near the Mall If you look to the back, you'll see a very big colorful group: Those are the cosplayers:
http://vimeo.com/7867862
As you can see...it's a lot of people, both in the crowd and in the cosplay segment.
Hm its supposedly going to be nice out this weekend before it starts raining again. Im considering going to Japan town just for sh*^s and giggles tomorrow if any of you are interesting in hangin =D
Bah, I may have to pass on this since I'll be on business travel the week before the parade. I won't be able to take part in the parade but I'll try to show up for fun on Sunday.
I'll show up in one of my Lolita outfits on Saturday the 10th. I'll also be wearing one of my Fanime Badges so people will recognize me from the forums easier ^^
I have a question for you all.
Is there anyone who is not going to be in the parade and would like to grab lunch and watch it together? I always end up going alone because everyones in the parade. I dont normally go cause then I have to ride the buss in costume =/

Hubby and I got a hotel room at the Kabuki this year for Saturday night on the 17th (woo!) so my hope is that Saturday for just civvy walking around, and Sunday the 18th for the parade. Not sure how long after the Parade we will stay after..it depends on how we feel (read: depends on how bushed the parade makes us!).
I've yet attended the Festival on a non-Parade day, so I'm really looking forward to that and actually finding some of the newer stores (I seem to keep having a problem locating them XD ).
I've already said this, leslie, but I'm going on the 11th and the 18th. :3 So if you're there on any of those days find me! ^^ I'll be a Bunny Lolita on the 11th and Kairi from KH II on the 18th. :D

Sure! I'll see if I can get some of my out of town friends to go too but they might want to be in the parade instead,
I'm debating on whether or not I will go. If my costume arrives on time I might join the parade. I just need to check some BART schedules.
Anyone here in the cosplay contest or doing something for the anime talent show?
I'm in the contest this year but still deciding to do something for the show but I don't know if I have enough time to prepare for it.

My husband and I are both doing the cosplay contest :) My fourth time, my husband's second. We'll be the space pirates in whatever equates to a corner XD
As for the talent show...I...have no idea what I would ever do for a talent show. I don't consider myself very talented *LOL*
I'm cosplaying Edward Elric from FMA. Later today, I register to walk in the parade. You don't need to register to walk; however, you get a goodie bag from JapanVideo. Don't expect much because of the recession. Last year's goodie bag contained a bootlegged poster :o

Easy :) You just need to register at Japan Video in San Francisco, especially if you want to be in the costume contest..the last day to register is April 11th. There is just a quick form that you fill out to get a confirmation number.
Then, everyone meets at SF City Hall on Sunday April 18th (there is only one parade, so no sessions), time depending on what you are doing. Contest entrants (or folks who want to enjoy watching the costumes for the contest) should arrive at 10 AM. Parade only folks can arrive at 12 noon.
You don't -technically- have to register to just walk the parade route with the group, but as mentioned, Japan Video has, in the past, put together goody bags for all of the participants who do...it's not a guarantee for this year, but if they do it, you shouldn't let yourself get left out.
Hope that helps!
To the people responding to me... thanks guys! :D Yeah lets all hang out together. 'm craving some crepes and crochets! (However those delicious potato things are spelled).
PM me for my SN or Facebook. Sorry I havnt been around due to school and there is a con this weekend so dont expect a lot for now.

As for where to go, parade-goers ONLY meet up at noon by the ugly trees in front of City Hall. xD Someone called them the ugly trees. *shrug* xDD
Then they tell us in the parade where to go and stuff. And they say that anyone in costume can be in it, so ya. :3 No registration required. xP They tell us what order to go in and stuff, based on your series. :D

Oh yes, the ugly trees that provide no shade...which now borders a dirtpit instead of grass. Guess there were too many bums camping out :P

They actually group series together now? That must be new...then again, I have only had one year where I entered a costume where I wasn't the only person from the series in question...and that was because I coordinated the four of us. XD

One of my friends who wanted to go can't go on the 17th... so she asked if we can do it on the 18th (which is totally fine... just gotta ask my parents, lol).
@Angelx624: Yeah! A little KH Gathering before the BIG gathering at Fanime! xDD;
I'm gonna go as gothic lolita Xion. :]
And (I'm asking this to anyone who knows), when IS the Anime-Cosplay Parade? The 18th?? o-o;
The 18th, and it has a lot of other stuff apparently besides just anime parade section. ^^
Oh, okay! Thanks for the clarification! ^-^;
I should probably tell my parents ahead of time... /cough.

Should I go as lolita Xion or Organization Xion? D: (LOL. Sorry for the random question...)
I dunno, Hana. D: I guess it depends on weather. >w<; If it's as hot as it was last year you probly don't wanna go as Organization Xion. xPP
Wait a couple of days before CBF 18th date before making the call, it could be sweltering that day or it could be really cold.
It's been weird here.... sunny one moment and raining the next. I agree wait till a little while before and kind of feel it out.
Here's what I've been using for the time being for weather reports because it has a 15 day forecast:
http://www.accuweather.com/us/ca/san-francisco/94102/forecast-month.asp
It was sunny and 56 last I looked there, now it's sunny and 71. That's.. a big difference. Then again, a 15 day forecast is more likely to fluctuate than a 10 day or sooner forecast. Once it hits 10 days away (about three to four days from now), things will get a little more consistent and reliable. It's also the max for forecasting on Weather.com as well.
Speaking of which..
http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/monthly/USCA0987
They are reporting chances of rain the week before between 30 and 60%, the higher percentages on the 15th and 16th.
The 18th, eh? It's either this, or driving lessons.
Decisions, decisions.
You could use the driving lessons to go to SF and back after the festival.
If I'm driving from Sacramento should I just drive all the way to SF or should I park at one of the bart stations and take bart??
I know parking in SF can be really bad so I'm not sure which would be better because I'm also not too familiar with bart, but I have done it a couple times.
I need some advice please!

I'm going to be doing the same thing as you are, but since I'm coming up from Hayward, I'll drive to West Oakland BART, park my car there and then take BART into the city. If you are coming from Sacramento, park at Richmond and take it from there.
I wouldn't leave your car in Richmond. Better to drive to Concord and take the BART from there, they have a lot of parking and easy to
get to.

Speaking of which..anyone have a suggestion on what time to show up for parking if we want to try to get into the lot connecting to the Hotel Kabuki? We're coming in on Saturday, but I'm trying to see when would be a good time to try to get there so we don't have to worry about moving for a little while.

Ok that sounds good, but I was thinking of parking at El Cerrito de Norte because I usually park there when I go to Berkeley.
Another question, which stop would I get off at if I take bart?? I have never taken it passed Berkeley.

Ok that sounds good, but I was thinking of parking at El Cerrito de Norte because I usually park there when I go to Berkeley.

Civic Center. Coming in from East Bay, it's the stop after Powell Street.
If you look up "civic center BART san francisco" in Google, you'll get a map of the area surrounding it. Personal suggestion for walking (others may have a better option, but this is what I remember) runs like this:
-Walk on Market towards Hyde Street (it's 8th Street south of Market, Hyde north of Market). You should be walking towards the Orpheum Theater.
-cross Hyde Street and go towards Grove Street.
-Follow Grove Street one block to Larkin
-The City Hall park will be visible across Larkin. People traditionally gather on the side of the park next to City Hall itself, so you'll just have to cross the street and go to the other side of the park.
I'll be attending, hoping I can snag some good purchases here and there at the event.

Btw, How do you get in the Cherry Blossom Festival
parade? And which parade session will have the cosplayers
in it? I want to know because I might want to be in the
parade. :3
Ahh, thanks so much for the info! Its a good thing
Im going on the 18th, or I'd be missing out! lol
Pluss Im going on that day for the parade, and
my mother said I can go in costume. xp

No problem :D
Oh dear. *eyes calendar* One week and one day left for me to finish (because I refuse to do a thing on Saturday other than be a tourist :P).
so I hear it's going to rain
It's still too early too tell based on the weather forecast. Just hope it will be sunny.
Here's the Weather.com link for the 10 day forecast:
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USCA0987
Right now it is saying "few showers", but it was saying no rain before that, so anything could occur at this point.
For now, I'm just going to plan to bring ultra-compact umbrellas and will see if Japan Video has a rain plan :)

OMG Anime buttons! I have a bunch of
those that I got from the Flea Market!
But the ones you got look WAY more
Awsome-er! Can I buy some off of you?
How much do you sell em for? =D
If it rains, I think its best if I use my Organization coat... >w>; (plus an umbrella, lol)
Why does it rain every time I cosplay in Japantown??!
DD: ~!
Stupid bi-polar weather... >w>;
Weather has changed, ABC 7 has said that it's supposed to be dry for both Saturday and Sunday but 70degrees+
A week forecast is never accurate. Just wait until Friday and then you'll know the actual weather.
Yeah, just hoping it won't rain and won't be hot. XD
Hiya folks, late reply I know.
Most likely I'll be taking pictures there for my own personal collection but I'll be cosplaying to. I hope to run into other fans of "History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi" cause I would love to nerd out with more people on that subject
I'll see about at least bringing Ichigo there, hopefully its not raining. I'll also have to get the day off or switch a shift.
Going on Sunday, and having an unofficial eating contest at Mifune. . . I'm not entering but it should be interesting.

I'll be heading to japan town pretty early to get dressed with a friend. I'll be in a brown kimono with brown cat ears.
I'll be there on Saturday. So, is the cosplay contest on Sunday or Saturday?

Any1 know about where cosplay meet on Saturday? My church needs me on Sunday, so I can't attend Sunday. >_<; Any meet up at the Tower Peace Plaza or ???
Thanks,
Bobby ^^
While I won't be participating in the contest, I'll be attending as Tsumugi Kotobuki from K-ON's "Don't Say LAZY" with my friend as Mio Akiyama.
We're so lucky to have good weather this year, last year's heat wave was absoltely horrible D: I dressed for the heat and I still died >w<
Mochi:
Yes, last year was in the blazing heat, sweating, but I endured! ^_^
I at least got enough footage for Cherry Blossom last year, but I guess some cosplayers on Youtube filmed in HD is better than none on a Saturday! ^_^
Sincerely,
Bobby

we'll all just pretend to do the "ice" magic spell and put out hands out like "HAH!" xD

If you're a member there, please help me sort the pictures by cosplayers and/or by series. Thanks! :)
Enjoy the pictures!
It was a crazy weekend, but my hubby and I survived it!
Not sure if we saw any of you..I admit sometimes it's hard to put faces to names unless there's an extensive conversation XD But we were there, and the event, as always, was a blast, even if we were a LITTLE warm...we had about five layers in the shoulder area alone just in our capes and capelets.
So now...Fanime is NEXT! And I can focus now on the costume in my icon :D

Next year I may be Misty for the CBF. ^_^ Lol, I know I'm planning way ahead, but since the weather's always warm and sunny on parade day......... xD
i'll be there as Kirara from Inuyasha
Oh, I'm definitely going!
As for who I'm going AS... I don't really know yet. Hopefully it'll be Franziska von Karma if my wig arrives on time.
I'm definately going as sango^^
Me and a few friend are going! I'll most likely be Rin from Vocaloid or Honey from OHSHC! Or just be myself... Either way, Can't wait! X3
I might be going as Yuna~! :3 Either that, or a surprise cosplay. xD
Probably going with a few friends. 8D It'll be my first time.
I dunno, I guess we'll go as Kagamine Len and Rin... And drag along a Miku and possibly Luka/Gumi.
Hey there, I've been to Fanime twice and only just discovered the forums! I plan on going either this weekend or the next. I live in San Jose and ,an either drive, split gas, or take the BART/Amtrak. Either way I just want to have a chill weekend. Anyone up for it?
If my schedule is still crystal clear, I'll be going as Kyubei Yagyu from Gintama.
Although I may not have tabis, I hope that I can pull it off, even though the cosplay is incomplete. ^^
Should we FanimeForum members meet up somewhere?
I'm gonna be going to the Cherry Blossom festival this last weekend. c:
Turns out I'm going to be heading there this Sunday. New years on Saturday. busy weekend ahead of me
I'll be there this Saturday. (: Not cosplaying but I'll be there in the afternoon ish.

I really want to see the festival. I've never been seen it before. If I go, I'll be there on Sunday but I'm leaning more towards "I won't make it." The drive is very long for me and the gas prices are just killing my wallet. I might go to Decepti-Kon instead, it's a little closer. :P

I'm still trying to finish it though ): but I'm sure I'll finish it as long as I stay up Saturday night xD

I am on my way out! didnt think i'd be able to make it, but i'm actually free today! i am a big white guy with longish hair. fanime lanyard hanging out of pocket.
Is there anyone going tomorrow...? LOL.
I'll be there as Rin Kagamine. :U
I'll hopefully be able to go.
And if I do, I'll be cosplaying as Kyubei Yagyu (wearing a light purple flower patterned kimono) w/ a purple flower in my left eye & holding a decorated paper fan.
Can't wait to see everyone there! :D

Just came back from the Fest. and MAN it was great.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Just got home, too many people, lots of cute cosplays.
I had fun, I was Piko Utatane today. (Several people mistook me for Gladius from Portal)
In any case I have some photos they will be up probably after fanime or if I can somehow make time between finals and then.
had a blast, didn't make it there until after the contest. I went as Hinata hyuga ^^ I was with a tsunade & a shippuden sasuke.
Can't wait till fanime! & next year!
I loved it, This was my first time at CBF but it was so much fun:] I was the Tsunade traveling with a Hinata and a Shippuden sasuke :]
I was there as Spirit Albarn from Soul Eater. That is to say, I was the guy with scythe blades sticking out of his back. Sadly, the wind was killer on the blades, and my largest scythe did not survive the experience. I'll have it fixed up soon enough, though. Was still a lot of fun.
I was the chibitalia!Maid Hungary [not the Funimation lady ;P] I had to say it was the funnest CBF I've been to out of the three years I went :D Thanks to everyone for making it as fun as it was :3
I was the Fem!Simon at the Cherry Blossom festival. I was very disappoint when I didn't see the Fem!Kamina show up, LOL! But my cosplay was also super last minute too and half assed, but you could tell I was Simon.
I have some video and some photos from yesterday cherry blossom festival. If you want to see it go to facebook and ask for and invite. My email there is
[email protected]. Ill put it tonight and some in the morning. By the afternoon they'll all be on. I was hiane from Gentleman's Alliance I was with the Miroku.
Did anybody find pics of this online? A buncha random people took pics of me and I haven't found any of 'em online. D: I was wearing a flower-patterned waloli outfit if that helps. x.x
