I get the counterfeit issue, but I suppose I don't fully get the worry. I only had to show my badge to get in to the game room, and the dealer room. Maybe I am not noticing the rovers walking around spotting those without badges. It does seem to me that a bar code, or QR code is the way to go and if the badges are preprinted as in years past pick-up could be done quickly, or if mailed a quick scan at the door to show valid entry or bogus, then enjoy your time at the con.

It is one of these unfortunate things that show the growing popularity, how this is handled will either continue the success or spell the end.

I pre-reg'd but why would I pick up my badge on Thurs, if I didn't need, and pre-reg was only 1 hour before the swap meet. I waited till Friday, and by waited I mean we got in line at 1PM and got out badges at 5PM. I think something has to be done. I would say you mail the badges. I understand the counterfeit concern, but measures can be taken, and should be taken. I notice that only access to the dealer room and swapmeet were the only times I had to flash my badge. I think place people with smart phones at each entrance and use bar codes, that is the least expensive method for security.

Just my 2 cents.
not sure why but this year just didn't seem as fun as previous years, the dealer room was lacking a bit, and most of the movies I wanted to watch were showing either super late or super early. I know you can't please everyone, and don't expect to, but waiting in line just to pick up a badge I paid for months in advance was not as much fun as everyone thinks. At least last year we were given water bottles while we waited.

It would be cool if the pre-regs would get an email about the Hotel stuff, like when the portal was up. I completely spaced on it till today. Luckily I did get a room and at a good rate as well, but not at the Hotel I would have preferred.

thanks for all you guys do I am looking forward to this year's show, regardless of the walk to the hotel. Who knows I might actually prefer this hotel. We are at the Fairmont this year, the Marriot was completely sold out.

does anyone know if there will be specials on parking and or internet like last year, or will it be at the hotel's discretion?

thanks,

note - Liquid. I haggle pretty much everywhere I go unless I think the price is right. While you are right places like Barnes and Noble usually do not discount things, there have been times, like when I got my Darth Maul light sabers, they were told to get rid of them and one had box damage, we made a deal. My rule of thumb is a. it never hurts to ask, and nothing ventured nothing gained at a good price.

well at least the elevators were kinda fast, I mean I can only hold my breath for so long, I swear some people have never been shown what soap is or how to use it. I think the only thing that came close to the funky bunch were the people who thought they didn't need a shower because they had body spray or perfume, come one now you smell like a funky bunch of flowers, I understand the rooms have showers soap and towels, maybe next year we get a forum on how to use those items found in the hotel rooms.

spare the air. ;D and mind others waiting for the elevator.

Dealers Room / Re: Dealers Room vs Swap Meet
May 27, 2009, 09:19:29 PM
While I saw some cool things in the dealer room, I generally choked on the prices. I do regret not picking up some of the $20 boxset DVD's, but the apathy and looks I got when asking about getting a break on buying 2 or 3 together generally turns me off. I enjoy seeing and would pay for the rare and unusual, or a really good price on something more common.
the dealer room is fun and low key, buying video games, or the Milk Chan dvd's at a good price made the whole event that much more fun.
So much better to get a percieved deal over being able to brag about how much I paid for something.

I can see the dealers possibly getting slightly upset, but on the other hand the swapmeet is usually older used stuff. I think almost all my purchases at the various swapmeets over the years has been items no longer carried in the dealer room.
I do usually roll my eyes at the prices of DVD's if I can buy it for less at Suncoast or some other place it is laughable. I go for price over convienence. I try to support locals over online, but don't want to feel completely abused.

Would be very cool to do swapmeet Sat as well next year.
I seem to have more fun at the swapmeet as the swappers are usually keener on making deals as compared to the dealer room. Just my 2 cents.

It would be cool to be able to pre-reg like on Sunday as well, or online during or shortly after the Con. Had a great time this year as with previous years.

Good job all!!!

thanks,
