Hey guys,

What do the tryouts consist of? Is there any sort of dance or skill we should practice?

Also, where do the dresses come from? :U Do we buy them on our own?

The tryouts consist of us asking questions about yourself. Its easy questions, nothing to be afraid about.

As for the dancing and such, thats not needed for this tryout.

The dresses you have to buy on your own and it has to be approved by Fanimaid Staff after you get into the cafe. All these things will be discussed at the tryout as well~

Oh, and make sure to come in the clothes that you like or think that describes you. Theres no real need for a super proper suit or anything (unless thats your style).

Thank you so much! It sounds really fun. I think I'll likely come to the SJ try out!

Sorry to keep pushing this, cause you did just say it gets discussed at the tryout, but can anyone give me a ballpark number of how much the dress will cost? I think a deciding factor for me might be whether I can even afford a new dress or not :X

Thank you!

It really depends where you get it. I get my maid outfits from Bodyline which is a Japanese company. Their dresses are roughly around $40-$80, but they have limited sizes.

Really? From what I remembered from the last couple of Fanimes the age restrictions were 16-25.

I wasn't able to get the Hilton like my group and I planned this year, but I managed to book the Hyatt place which is our second choice. I've been to this hotel once back when it was the Crowne Plaza, and was wondering how much has changed since their renovation. Can anyone tell me their experience and if they want to book their again at all?

I was a maid back in 2008, I plan to try out again this year since I miss the fun of being a maid again!

So I guess hotels don't take split payments? I was thinking about just using cash to pay for the room and use a credit card to pay for the deposit.
#26
Actually, I think Fairmont is the most expensive.

Last year, my friends and I stayed at the Marriott where we got a junior suite and we loved it. I was wondering if any other hotels offered this service at all?

My friends and I are doing a disney group. Some of them will be cosplaying from Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Emperor's New Groove, and Princess and the Frog.

As for myself, I'll be cosplaying as Mulan. :3

Depending if I get it done in time, I might be Yamuraiha.

By any chance did you pay in cash? That could be the reason.
All my stays I paid with a credit card.

The first time I checked in with Marriot I did use my card. They charged me the full amount as well as the deposit.

A simple thing you can do is call.

For the most part all the Marriotts that I went to all charged me at check out.

That being said that is the first time I head the Marriott do that.

I've been to two marriots and had the same experience. And it was always full pay at check-in.

Hotel and Facilities / Has Hilton changed their policy?
October 22, 2012, 03:21:12 PM
For the past 2 years, my friends and I have stayed at the Marriott hotel. A year before that we stayed at the Hilton and loved it, but due to some circumstances we couldn't stay at the hotel anymore(Apparently, the air vents weren't cleaned out very well and it was causing problems for my friend who has respiratory problems). So we're willing to give Hilton another shot, because Marriot is getting too expensive and they don't provide as much amenities compared to Hilton. However, my concern is whether anything about the Hilton has changed?

I remember at check-in they didn't charge us a deposit. They just held onto my card number, then when it was time to check out I paid the full amount in cash. When I was at Marriot it was different. Not only did I pay a deposit, but they also had me pay in full at check-in. For anyone who frequently stays at Hilton, especially ones who booked this year, can you tell me if their policies have stayed the same? Because I'm not sure if all hotels are doing the same thing marriot is.

I keep seeing bathroom doors not locking coming up as a "con" for the hotels.  What is the issue here?  If you can trust someone enough to sleep in the same room with you, wouldn't it be reasonable to trust they aren't going to surprise you in the bathroom while you're using it?  If that isn't the case, you may want to re-evaluate the type of people you associate with.

Some people just like a little security when going to the bathroom, nothing wrong with that. There's been a few times when we did have bathroom surprises(Marriott and their sliding bathroom doors, smh). I had a roommate in the past who didn't understand the meaning of "consideration". She had no problem barging in to brush her teeth, while one of my friends was on the john. Quite traumatizing I must say.

Golden Bomber-They sang the ending song to Yugioh Zexal

Nightmare-Apparently Fanime was going to bring Nightmare, but there was a schedule conflict, so they instead brought Igaguri Chiba the lead singer of Nightmare's side band, "Sendai Kamotsu." Hopefully next year they'll give it another shot.

The raves had the worst BO if you ask me. Along with a shower, deodorant can work wonders.

In addition, while this isn't the hotel's fault at all, we were on the 14th floor which seems to be the PARTY floor. A drinking party was going on next door. Con goers and even fanime staff members were crammed in this standard room, getting drunk, being noisy, and spreading their body heat outside our door. It felt like a sauna made from human heat. EW. D: I wished the Marriott staff had come in to settle things down earlier instead of waiting for hours.

Omg I Heard that too! Same floor but we were lucky to have our room be directly next to the ice machine so weren't as close to the room in question. The noise wasn't too bad until a large group of them started running up and down the hallway and talking EXTREMELY loudly. My husband was literally five seconds away from calling the lobby when they finally got on that elevator they were waiting for.

We were right next to this room. There were times when hotel staff would come to OUR room because we were making too much noise. Which was odd since we hardly had that many roommates and most of the time we were quiet. I guess if you have a suite you're labeled as a party room.

I'm at Acceptance. This is possibly my eighth year at Fanime, so I'm not as affected than I was 5 years ago. Plus there was quite a bit of con drama going on with my group, so wouldn't call this my best year. Still loved it though, and already making plans for next year.

Edit: Oops my bad.

Well, for guest I would love to see the fashion designer Hirooka Naoto. He has a store in SF Japantown. I was hoping for him to come to Fanime this year since he has a booth in the dealers hall.

For voice actors, I would really love to see Hiroki Takahashi.

IMO, they're a cute novelty toy, but I would not dish out $99 for them if I'm not gonna use them half of the time. As for scanning brain waves, one of my friends has a theory that what it's actually reading is your body tempature. Almost like how a mood ring work. My friend was contemplating on getting one, but after borrowing one from one of my friends he quickly grew bored of them. I tried them on and it was only fun for the first couple of minutes. But if you really want one, I would say wait until the prices go down or see if you can find one at the Swap Meet for cheaper.

Hotel Name: Hyatt Place

Just one little question. How big are the rooms in Hyatt? The site said they were 600 sq ft, but back when it was the Crowne Plaza the rooms were about as small if not smaller than the Marriott and Hilton. Did they gut the entire insides or something?

The room we had wasn't huge by any means, but it never felt cramped. I'd say it was roughly the same size as the rooms were back when it was still the Crowne Plaza; if anything, the space may have been utilized a little differently. The two beds and couch took up most of the space, leaving room to walk between them and the TV, drawers, etc. We used the cabinet and drawer space to store all our things, so it didn't take up all the floor space.

Hope that answer helped you somewhat, if at all, hehe. XD

That did help a little bit. Thank you. :3 I'm trying to contemplate about where to room next year. If the room is small we might have to get two rooms or try our luck with the suite again. We always need a room with a fridge, which is why I would love Hilton but my friend who has a bad respiratory system hates their air ventilation.
