General Anime Chat / What's your first Anime?
July 29, 2004, 09:28:27 PM
First thing I saw that could be considered anime was probably Starblazers or the Shogun Warriors.  The first thing I saw not on standard TV was Bubble Gum Crisis (not 2040) and Macross Do You Remember Love?

On a related note my first sentai shows were Gorangers, Spectreman, Ultraman, Johnny Sokko, and Space Giants.  Anyone else remember watching all this stuff on Captain Cosmic?

You could always go to something as mainstream as Animatrix.  There are some interesting sequences there and some of the people in the class may have actually seen it before...

Poorly translated at best.  I've seen some of those HK/Taiwan jobs and boy are they horribly translated.  But sometimes you get a really good laguh out of how bad the translation is.  I'd watched One Piece one time to find Sanji translated as Sunkist and Usopp translated as Hot Hands.  Oh and let's not forget our favorite practitioner of three sword style, Sauron.  Wow!  LOTR in One piece.

I wish I had a good broadband connection so I could download the fansubbed eps until the licensed stuff came out...

Ideas and Suggestions / Chair
November 13, 2003, 02:02:14 PM
Okay I can get my first "Chair" incident narrowed to AX96, I think.  It was the year I was a gofer.  I had to do a google search to match the guests since I know I got Ai Orikasa and Yumi Takada to sign my Tenchi laserdisc that year.

*Actually perhaps it was 97 I don't know if I had a chance to go to masquerade in 96.*

Anyhow Evangelion was new and someone did some skit called "Waiting for Gendou"  In it Gendou sat there on stage doing absolutely nothing.  After it was over they pulled off the table but left the chair.  We started to chant "Chair!" just cause they took so freaking long to set up for the next skit.  When they were announcing winners I do believe we were also chanting for the chair to win.  Needless to say I was in the simulcast room where people tend to be a bit rowdier and stuff.  For those who remember that was the year that Peter Brown went on stage and did the transformation of Sailor Starfighter.

Must be.  Otherwise I'd have been a bit lost having first seen it on DVD.  Yep right there under the setup feature I see audio and captions and subtitles.

Yup.  Sounds about right.  Same weekend as Fanime 04, so I doubt many of you will be going unless you are in socal.

That will not be listed in a Wizard.  But don't let that stop you from buying a copy.  Is this book a US version book?  Is it the CPM version or the Image Phoenix Resurresction one?  My guess with something drawn in it would be either a Japanese Manga or a CPM trade paperback.  I would keep it and not bother trying to sell it unless you run into someone way into Kia Asamiya.  More info might help us help you, but I don't think Asamiya stuff is too popular on eBay.
