Staff & Volunteers / Becoming a Volunteer

I wish I was a cowboy, but I don't let that get in the way of my volunteering.

I thought JTAF was actually quite small for an anime con, although they were pretty impressive for a new convention.

'Cause that's totally anime related!

I thought there was also something about Conan turning into a kid. Whatever. I'll just watch the next AS showing.

As long as you're not in your twenty pound life-size Totoro costume, you'll be okay. Anything that doesn't stop you from working.

Six hours of work for two slices of pizza and a soda. It's the socializing that really makes it worth it.

Quote from: "Piccahoe"my favorite animes are:

Fruits Basket
Jungle wa itsumo hare nochi Guu
Chrno Crusade
Case Closed
Naruto

How is Case Closed? All I know about it is that it's a Detective Conan spinoff, and I liked Detective Conan. Then again, that was when I looked at all anime through rose-colored glasses.

You'll need a waiver if you're under eighteen, but otherwise age is irrelevant.

Hey, that's really cool! How did you contact them in advance?

Blarg. I wasn't planning to go (Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival, yo!), but I live so close, it seems a shame to miss it. I'll see if I can find a con buddy.

I wish I could, but I'm sure that they have staff doing it. It would be freaking awesome to see everyone marching around with my work pinned on them, but it would never happen. Mostly because nobody knows me yet. Also because I don't draw standard anime.

Last I checked, I'm a guy.

Kanon started out as a H-game. I try not to point this out, as people are reluctant to watch something that began as porn. However, as a show or a game, Kanon has a completely beautiful storyline, and one that's solid enough to work without sex.

1. Kanon. Simply gorgeous. The most beautiful love story I've ever seen, and the only thing I've cried at since I was four. If you haven't seen this yet, watch it. Unless, of course, you're the kind of person who can't stand watching a show that's not action-packed and stuffed with fight scenes. You guys can just continue thinking you know what plot and exposition is.

2. Azumanga Daioh.

3. Witch Hunter Robin.

4. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. If you're watching this, please get the Japanese version. The English one is twisted beyond recognition. The plot changes so dramatically, it's disgusting.

5. Chobits.

EDIT: Wow. I just realized that I'm the only person who's posted here that doesn't like action and wackiness and cares about consolidated plots (shows that, despite the fact that they could make more money, only make the show as long as the plot requires it to be.)

Is there any possible way to volunteer to work before the con begins, or is setup reserved for the staff?

If not, I'd be glad to help an hour or two to help, but I'm not sure if I can endure six hours of volunteer work and still see enough of the con without completely burning out.
