Hi, everybody! I'm sure we all remember last year's Masquerade when everyone and their great aunt danced to Hare Hare Yukai. Some friends of mine lost a bet, so I'm forcing to do Masquerade this year and was curious as to whether Caramelldansen will be this year's Hare Hare Yukai. Opinions?
Carmelldansen was old two years ago. Will it be overdone at the masquerade? Let's see... Hare Hare Yukai was about 2 years old last year... so 2 year old things start showing up a lot at cons. So... yes.
I sense Carmelldansen with a dash of Motteke! Sērāfuku this year.
Yes, and everyone will be "getting down" in 2 years from now.
Sometimes I want to put Ai and Mii in that goddamn cat.gif just so I could say "If I see that goddamn Caramelldansen one more time!"

(Mizuki on Rena's acct) An idiot's human body can do quite a lot.
I wonder if anyone will do the Kanagi OP dance.
No, it couldnt be becuase nothing, NOTHING has been nor will be as mind numbingly irritating as the Hare-hare F-in Yukai. ( except the lucky star song)
Could be worse? People could go old school and butcher the "Bartman" dance. I'm just saying, unless there is something on the internet that I'm missing out on. ???
Old meme is old.

Well, I don't know what Hare Hare Yukai is, but I do enjoy Caramelldansen a lot, and hearing it all over the con last year was really fun. :D

It is the song that was created via contract between the creator of Haruhi Sezumi and the Dark Prince himself.

K then...
Last year a few groups had a Caramelldansen element to their skits. These tended to be short gags as part of larger skits.
Carmelldansen is not the next Hare Hare Yukai, because they are really two different things in my opinion. Carmelldansen is something that is as long as the first second it began, there's like 3 movements...Hare Hare Yukai is a bit more skilled. I guess since Lucky Star FINALLY got around to hitting America, maybe more people will know about Mottoke! Sailer Fuku

That or there's always other things like Seto no Hanayome OP dance...who knows...XDDD
I think the thing that could really be a rival to Carmelldansen is Levan Polka...it requires nearly the same amount of movement, everyone will swing leeks around and mumble it since no normal human being could really sing that craziness...

In that, will everyone be doing it like they did the Hare Hare Yukai.

Hare Hare Yukai is the ED from Haruhi. An anime that's 3 years old now. The dance SUDDENLY GOT POPULAR last year, and everyone and their moms were doing it, every chance they got, the song was played every where... when it was three years old, and idiots were making vids of them doing the dance everywhere. Con goers were doing it in hall ways, in rooms, and everywhere they possibly could... THREE YEARS AFTER IT WAS DONE.
The macarena didn't even last 3 years.
The funnier thing is, that it wasn't even done when it was new. No one was doing it the year the series came out. Barely anyone did it the year after. It wasn't until 2 years after it came out did Americans start jizzing all over the place concerning the song... It was also the same time that "LOLOL KYOANI IS SO AWESOME!" started.
Caramell Dansen gained a lot of popularity last year(when it was already over a year old) and people were walking around with boombox's playing it at cons and the such(much like yr. 2 of Hare Hare Yukai). So following the trend, it'll be HUGE this year, just like Hare Hare Yukai was last year. Because Americans are slow to the party concerning stuff like this, and they will totally think it's so awesome and it will happen every where.
YOU however were comparing THE ACTUAL DANCE itself and its terms of simplicity and action.
I wonder if Love and Joy will start getting popular in 2 years lolololololol....
....

Onoz! The skit has already been recorded!
However, we're making fun of Caramelldansen, so maybe it won't be so lame. Crap, it probably will. Oh, well. I'm nothing if not thorough.
I look at it on youtube. I do prefer using the lucky star. It is better.

I like the song, but it is really mostly bunny dance. I was hoping some different dance, but I do love the song.
caramell dansen is fun ^_____^
"Lyssna och lar
Missa inte chansen
Nu ar vi har med
Caramelldansen! "
I look at it as a simple matter of time lag. Some people honestly don't get to experience some series until they hit U.S. shores so there is on time factor. Second, it takes time to learn the dance moves for some routines. And third, when going for a gag like the Haruhi dance or Caramelldansen you want to make sure the audience is mostly familiar with the material. Going for something like the Lucky Star dance the year it hits TV period, let alone the States, may make for a confused audience.
So thus the delay between the peak popularity of a stunt and it's appearance at Fanime. Remember real life does not evolve at the same pace as the interwebs.
Honestly?
I never get tired of the Caramelldansen, or the dance.
I am such a loser. :/

If you were talking ONLY the masquerade it'd make a little bit of sense. However, this doesn't match up to people walking around the hall ways and exhibition halls etc. doing it. Or the influx of characters from old series. Haruhi was OLD in AMERICA last year. But the influx was bigger. And this only makes sense for things LIKE anime OPs. Caramell Dansen and what it made it popular is from a series that's like a decade old almost (Popotan).
It's just that, America is seriously behind the times. People that actually follow JP stuff, then someone will mention it to someone that doesn't, and eventually the general mass American audience gets to it, 2 years later. It's like a long game of telephone. The irony is that, the people that are doing it two years later are the ones that proclaim they're "otaku!" and think they're such awesome fans and know everything.
It's hillarious.
Cans it be Caipirinha time this con? XD
Oh no! I've created a monster! I had no idea this thread would still be going...YEAH!
I have seen a lot of good points regarding whether a pop culture item is too old or not quite old enough to still be considered "cool." Granted, quite a few people have their fingers on the pulse of Japanese pop culture and pop culture in general to know the minute an item is cool abroad, even though the American fandom at large may not quite be aware of it. Look at Bleach! The US is 2.5 seasons behind! However, I was seeing the Bankai uniforms at Con long before the dub actually got to that point, so obviously some were more ahead of the game than others.
I abhor FW's so my friends and family generally know better than to send them to me. Thus I was a little behind on the whole RickRolling phenom until someone explained it to me after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade pulled a RickRoll on the FHIF float, complete with Rick Astley! However, I still like to think of myself as pretty up on most trends. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there will always be people who latch onto a trend at it's beginning, some who come in in the middle and some who don't catch on until last. Otaku is otaku. It doesn't really matter to me when you showed up at the party!
Actually I hope it will be good. Last year I see a group dansing the ike ike danse. Well will c.

You are partially right in when you say this, but the ending is just horrible. Trends and timing are important, and mean absolutely everything. To explain I will simply replace this with...
Fashion.
Fashion trends change per season and sometimes even quicker than that. If you don't keep up with trends, you are nothing but a wannabe in terms of fashion. You are either, someone who doesn't get it... or someone who TRULY DOESN'T CARE TO GET IT so they work on their own pace.
The people that catch on to trends later, doing things like hare hare yukai 2 years late, catching up with carmamell dansen 3 years later, REALLY CARE, they're just really late to the party. In terms of fashion, they would be the ones wearing 2 seasons ago colors and trends which is horrible. If it makes them happy, that's good for them, but those people don't do this stuff because *it makes them happy*. They truly do it, because they think they're cool and part of the in crowd. They think they're really on the cutting edge, that's why they so proudly show it off. Most people that are really up to date with trends, don't really show it off, they just subtley keep up with it and know what they're doing.
Aww...... I was hoping the bunny dance. O well.
At least it's not the YES dance coming back. That old news has been invading my school this year. groce ;l

we should do this next year and have a one hour session doing this dance over and over
All of you that were doing the Caramelldansen on Monday are horrible people.

I'm just saying.
Nah.... i dont c much people doing it though. O well. I wonder what will be next year.
And this is why I do partner dances ;). Never really out of style and lots of fun to do no matter what.
True. Not easy, but true. Anyone know what the next song is going to be?
Either way I plan to hate people whoring it out...
If an english language born meme gets to Japan, it's already old.
Ok so we're talking about over done dances right?
Well I was just wondering if anyone's ever seen the japanese numanuma done at a con before?
It's right in between caramell and hare hare difficulty wise, although I'm not sure if it's as popular...
Will everyone (or anyone) Be doing a caramelldansen/Hare-Yukai/Sailor Fuku in public...?
and what I mean by that, is like in the front by the fountains, like last year, or indoors??
I Just wanna know. :)
