Title: What anime disappointed you the most?
Post by: Darryl Mendoza on February 12, 2006, 12:37:07 PM
I just wanna know what anime you wanted to watch so badly but just got slapped in the face and was let you down.

I was let down by the Love Hina and Negima animes both compared to the manga, they are not really good. In Love Hina, they took out all the major parts that Keitaro and the others had in the manga and also changed all the parts around. In Negima, it started off way different than in the manga and also changed the story a little bit later when it came near an end. I just wanna know why they had to make all the damn changes.

Puni Puni Poemi needs more episodes. Or are the the people at Victor Entertainment and JC Staff as they were in Excel Saga out of ideas?

Most of my complaints are concerning anime that need more episodes because sometimes they end a little abruptly.

However, ditto to Negima. The manga is much more action packed, and the anime lacks in many details.

Hellsing turned out pretty bad, imo.
The manga is very entertaining but the plot for the anime was fairly lame, as was the bad guy.
And on the translations they totally messed up with the "Arucard".

Initial D, the arcade spoiled the storyline, if there was one. It's like DragonBall Z with cars.

"Oh, an 86! My (insert car here) can beat that old piece of junk!"
Tak(umi) wins.

This pattern lasts several episodes and 2 manga volumes.

Tokyo Underground. The ending was abrubt and they didnt explain what happened well enough.

It seemed like they went, "Oh sh@t, we are on episode 26. We need to wrap it up quick!"

Divergence Eve- I was hoping they'd have a bit of substance aside from the bounce, but it looks like that's all there was to it. You could get better storytelling from h -_-;;

Final Fantasy Unlimited-Good try, but it honestly could have done much better.

Dual! - Holy Moses! Talk about borrowed concepts. The first time I saw this I was thinking to myself "Why the hell are Relena(GW) and Tenchi(TM!) piloting Evas? And who the hell is this little Hitler Clone? SERIOUSLY?!?!? WTF?!?!"

Key: The Metal Idol - Even to this day I still don't get it.

Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of a Heroic Knight - Aside from having the longest title ever, it was one helluva way to kill an awesome series.

Berserk!  Stupid not having a 2nd season yet.  When that ended, I had to double check to make sure that I wasn't missing a disc.

Full Metal Alchemist.  WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG w/ Ed?  The movie did a better job at ending the series than the end of season 2, but still.....

And whats wrong w/ Alucard in Hellsing?  Alucard = draculA, so its supposed to be Alucard, not Arucard.  Blame the Japanese for using R's for L's.

I'm rather surprised at some of the other titles on this list.  Cowboy Bebop had a perfect ending, really.  And a good (ie: makes sense and ends the story well, not good as in happy go lucky fun time) ending to a Japanese story is damn rare, if you ask me.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Spiral.  The end of the series didn't resolve any of the issues it set out to do.  What are the Blade Children?  Where's Ayumu's brother?  Nothing. -.-

Quote from: "EternalMalachi"And whats wrong w/ Alucard in Hellsing?  Alucard = draculA, so its supposed to be Alucard, not Arucard.  Blame the Japanese for using R's for L's.
The Japanese use a sound that's half-way between a R and L, so it can go either way depending on the romanization scheme.  Most people I know use "Alucard."  In the official domesticated release by Geneon, they used "Arucard."  A very poor decision if you ask me.

That's interesting... I saw the anime first (at the con, actually, and then later that week at home) and when I went to read the manga the same week, I couldn't get past the first 30 pages or so.  I appreciated the fact that they did such a good job converting the storyline into the anime, but it's boring to read the exact same thing you just watched... Though now I'm gonna have to read the manga because this filler is killing me.

Dissapointing endings... Samurai Champloo.  Too anti-climactic and too many people with God-mode on.  And Hellsing, of course.

My list of the most disappointing (yes, in order):

Tenjou Tenge (the first fight + Maya hinted at a great first impression...then it all goes tumbling down.)
Naruto (after episode 19, I expected it to get even better.  It was doing fine all the way up till the mid-70s, then it starts going downhill from there until around episode 100ish, where it just becomes utter trash.)
Piano (not very well known, but it started out as a crappy show.  I gave it time to reach some sort of peak...and...well, goes from bad to worse. )
Suzuka (Similar situation with Piano...started out decently/not so well, gave it a chance and after the last episode, realized how much time I've wasted giving this show a chance.  Went from bad to worse, with an ending that was just stupid.)

To be honest, the ending for the Fruits Basket anime was really disappointing after reading volumes of the manga. I was expecting something more than that. I was originally hoping it would at least be better or just as good as the manga...

I was pretty upset with the newer Bleach seasons too. After the whole Soul Society trip, I was hoping for something bigger, but I don't think it happened.

I really wasn't too fond of Prince of Tennis either. The manga was a disappointment compared to the anime.

F*ck Hina, Whatever Midori, and friggin Orgy Muyo.

So the first two, I really can't understand:
Why it's ok for a nice girl to fall in love with someone who puts her in an environment where she can be violated over and over.

And the last one:
Why is it ok for a nice guy to live in a home filled with women?  In real life, he would be gay, for there would be no 'nice guys' staying there for long.  He'd be kicked out because he's not gay, or he'd be gay because that's less of a harrassment threat to a house filled with women.

Mostly, I'm disappointed in the fans who perpetuate the demand for this stuff and the companies who perpetuate the supply of this shit.

Tenjou Tenge

It was ok at the start, and I liked the flashback parts, but they killed of Shin in the most pathetic way, and then when that was over with, they realized "oh crap, we have to finish the series" so they crammed in the last battle in about 15 mins.
Title: something like a rant
Post by: Saffy on April 27, 2006, 12:16:13 AM
I'm really hard on these anime. If you disagree, instead of flaming me, please put up a good argument. :P

Bleach:
crap filler, still going on. have switched to manga to continue good story but waiting for the anime to get back on track.

Initial D:
suffers from dragon ball syndrome, where battles occur over several eps, wasting lots of air time (and my life). really funny how characters will stand by the road for hours (apparently), witness .5 sec of the cars driving by, and talk about how it was "the most amazing race I've ever freakin' seen in my life." because of the heavy time consumption, I don;t have any time to actually watch it anymore.

Naruto:
crap filler, not sure whether its going on because I have lost interest. despite upgrades and life lessons, some characters seem to never learn anything (ex: naruto). first movie ("ice princess" or something) also lacking in character, content and plot. not sure whether I will continue the manga as current arc bores me.

Tenjou Tenge:
downward spiral of DOOM following first nine or so episodes. strange sequencing concerning long flashbacks, as well as flashbacks within the flashbacks. storyline collapses following the death of major character (Rette, you said it), though I never liked that guy anyway. ending was utter crap, not interested enough to rent the movie at SF's jtown for $3.

Biggest disappointment: NARUTO
My favorite series since it came out, I have lost interest in it altogether for the sins committed above. It was highly promising before the 3 year break. May consider returning to see Sasuke again. Though I never liked him very much.

Thats why you have an edit button. Also, the first real arc after the 3 year break (I assume you mean in the manga) actually has some really good fighting and such, once you get into it. I wont spoil anything, but I will say this: Sakura haters may have to rethink their position.

Oh, and my horrible memory tends to block stuff out, so I cant remember most of them....but a disappointment for me was Iketeru Futari. 16 five miniute episodes. While I'm dissapointed in Naruto, the anime I was most dissapointed in was Kai-Doh-Maru.
It's from the creators of Blood: The Last Vampire, and was said to have amazing animation. I read a review saying how great and artistic and revolutionary it was. Kai-Doh-maru was utter crap. The storyline sucked, because they tried to fit an epic story with a ton of characters to develop in 45 minutes, and it was just boring. The animation quality actually HURT my EYES to watch. It's supposed to change film quality in accordance to the season, but the grainyness and humidity of 'summer' took away from what little art there was. All the character designs and backgrounds and buildings were extremely plain. The blood was neon red and I can't tell you how much it irritated me to watch the series.
Like in Blood: the Last Vampire, it used actual taped footage in the anime, though while it worked beautifully in Blood, it looked like a cheesey home video of random plants in Kai-doh-maru.
I feel so decieved. The dvd wasn't even worth the coupon I used to buy it.

Nausicaa: it only covered like... 1 volume of the manga! Grr.

Full Metal Panic (original & TSR): No matter how much people hype these, I just can't find out why they would be anything more than slightly average. Fumoffu was funny, though.

*wants to keep this thread alive, i like it*

just finished watching gun x sword. (yea, people will say, whats wrong with you?). People had mixed feelings on it and i wanted to judge it for myself. Watched it non-stop hoping that something big will happen eventually... and wow, what a waste of freakin time. I could probably write an essay on whats wrong with it, lol. To summon it up, characters are just god awful, mecha is subpar, story was hideous but concept and setting was awesome.

I have to agree with whoever said Fruits Basket. If it has followed the manga, I may have been in love with it for the rest of my life. But the ending was bad, and they put it out of order.

My other disappointment was Paradise Kiss. I rarely love a shojo manga, but this one was special for me. The manga had its humorous moments, but the anime took those and butchered them with bad animation. I'm sorry, but I couldn't stand the animation style in it. I had waited so long for the anime too...

OMFG i was so dissapoined in the ending for

Berserk & Gantz the most out of all the anime i have ever seen, and if u read the mangas or know of them u too would be dissapoined too. when i saw the last episode of gantz i was like !?!?!?! WTF does that even mean, it was so confusing! And don't even get me started on Berserk, but the Berserk video game for gamecube was a cool (if u like to think of it that way) kind of contuinuation of what was to follow what happen after the last episode of Berserk (i played the game before watching the anime so i was confused at why Caska (or was it Casket oh well) acted the way she did on the game (poor Caska).

It ended with a cliffhanger.....he left and didn't come back when Fuko was running for him!!!!! o_O It was sad and upsetting....I mean, I like it and all, but they should have had more to go on...maybe an extra eppy or two to show if he did come back or not....it sucks!!!!!

OMG! Final Fantasy Unlimited was helluv disappointed for me! Character design was too weird. Didn't like the setting and story line, feels too much like Alice and Wonderland but worst.

Summons and music is good though.

His and Her Circumstances... It didn't live up to the manga. T.T

Agreed. And this is coming from someone who is manga-impaired. (I need colors and music and movement, y'know?)

I have to say, Onegai Twins was really a disappointment after how good Onegai Teacher was... so much fanservice, and all the returning characters from the first series were made so depthless, emotionally flat and dull as hell. Plus Karen was really annoying.

Also, Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ was disappointing. I thought, with a title like that, it would surely be worthwhile, but the plot was really bad, the characters were not interesting, and the animation was quite subpar. Plus the last 10 seconds of the show were a complete cop-out from their whole shpiel about choosing one or the other.

Sounds to me like you have Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ and Shingetsutan Tsukihime mixed up.

Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ (http://www.jvcmusic.co.jp/m-serve/tsukuyomi/): Based on the manga of the same name; 25 episodes. Disappointing features include: chronically static animation for the action scenes. Not sure how the storyline stacks up to the manga since I've only read one volume.

Shingetsutan Tsukihime (http://www.jcstaff.co.jp/sho-sai/tsuki-shokai/tsuki-index.htm): Based on the TYPE-MOON game "Tsukihime", which also had a fan-made spin-off fighting game "Melty Blood" (not used in the anime); 12 episodes. Disappointing features include: very short length, many changes compared to the game, including omission of some characters and severe "neutering" of others. Arguably a worthwhile series if you don't compare it to the game, or the manga which came after it.
