Title: How to share the con
Post by: Amon_Devilman on March 21, 2008, 01:21:39 AM
Put lightly, for a few years now, I've been sharing the con with someone who hates me and I hate. Basically, every year is tinged with people avoiding each other or giving death glares for simply entering the dealer's room as someone else.

So, is it time to just confront and say drop it, or just keep the avoidance going?

you should probably try to talk it out if they're mature enough to do so.

there is someone at fanime every year that i know wants to literally kill me.  he's very immature, however, so there's nothing i can do.

Well, I'm screwed in that regard. Believe me, maturity, along with compassion and understanding, is as far from her as a koala from the Arctic.

pay her no mind. you're there for you, not her.

I have to do that this year myself cept I'm on relativly good terms with the people I'm avoiding. It's a huge con and it's VERY VERY easy to miss people.

Last year i met this giant group of people i wanted to hang with last year and the next day I never found them! so don't sweat it

Would he confront you if you guys passed by each other? I don't see a problem in avoiding said person, as the con is pretty huge. It's pretty easy to avoid people. If you have the self-control, you can just ignore him.

For some reason it didn't work so well for me last year.  I ran into the guy 5-7 times throughout the con.  every time i got the "i want to kill you" glare.  at mcdonalds he even did the "bump shoulders on purpose" thing.  :-\

hopefully it'll be better this year.

If they want to do something about it, they'll do something about it. Seeing that they are not doing anything about it, they are a bunch of pansies that are all talk, who cares? Brush that beef off and get on with your life.

Just be the bigger person and try to initiate a dialogue that can only spark either a truce, or just a general understanding to reduce tensions.

It worked for me, even though I apoligized to the wrong person the first time... Which was awkward. Trust me, Con-Drama can suck the fun out of the weekend.

It's been stated already, but going to talk to the person and straightening things might get your con experience on the norm again, but... it can also screw it up if they make a scene. From my experience, it isn't too hard to avoid someone in the con. Just hang out with friends and you're generally good to go, I believe. Out of curiosity, do you really want to get things back to normal, or do you just want to take the suck out of the con? Don't apologize if you're not sincere about it.

While talking it out and compromising is advisable, sometimes there are those who are better off not being bothered. Not everyone actually agrees to confrontation, and in some cases, trying to talk to them will make things worse. Though, it's better to try to settle your problems. Try to compromise, only if there's a possibility that it'll help, otherwise, it's easier for you to just avoid the problem altogether.

I have a question for those who hates some1 who hates u back at Fanime, how did you meet them and how did you end up hating them? Or why do u think they hate you if you don't hate them?

Er... well, this would vary upon their own personal issues, don't you think?

Indeed.  Mine is my Ex's current Bf's bro hates me because I wanted her back and he's trying to "protect his family".  He also holds grudges and it's been 3 years and he still hates me.  There's effectively no hope for my situation unless he grows up (not counting on it anytime in the next decade)

I've tried settling this in non-con times, since we attended until recently the same university (I graduated, she didn't ^_^).

I used to date her. And things got weird, she got in some trouble, I tried to help, she accused me of stalking her, she got screwed, kept blaming me as a stalker just because I was concerned.

Now, every year, I have to deal with death glare/threat from not just her, but her idiot boyfriend, her clique, and anyone she makes friends with during this year's con. Basically, a "you try to hurt our friend, we'll kill you" when I'm like "stay the hell away from me, and where I want to hang".

Life sucks for me at con for the last 4 years or so.

Challenge her to a 3 out of 5 match in a fighting game of your choice or go all War of the Roses and map out your sections, her sections, and the neutral territory. (which would probably be the dealers room)

You could also get a group of people to like "death glare" them back and get into a huge "death glaring war" until someone passes out from "over glaring". The same thought process works for "threats" as well...

Title: Re: How to share the con

Well, Dev, I'd love to try your method, but considering the last time I tried to speak to her she threatened me with a restraining order at our mutual anime club.

And since she's all small and effeminate and such, it's easy to believe she's a victim, and not a bee-yotch.

The over-glaring would be nice, except my friends and her group never seem to pass each other. Just me on my own.

What really sucks is when we shared a fiction class.
Title: Re: How to share the con
Post by: Devereaux on March 24, 2008, 02:11:08 AM
Speaking from experience restraining orders are not that bad, though mine was from an entire family, not just a single individual...

Well until she sends guys after you to beat the shit out of you and leave you for dead (also something that I have had experience with) you really have nothing to worry about.

Does having people basically spread shit about you whenever you so much as SPEAK to a female friend and your girlfriend is not present count as threats?

I don't live near or around anyone to be hated, and won't recognize those who would hate me. That and i don't give a crap. ;) Also, this is the only time I get to really visit with my new firends, since I live so far away from them. I'd be too concerned with the funtimes to worry about anything else.

HAH try it. I dare you. Cuz I'll be dammned to let someone ruin my suit.

Actually, I am out here in cow country becuase I am the one doing the hating. And have beaten the shit out of people, and run people off the road, and other violent acts. But that was when I was a troubled, angsty teen. Now I am an adult...with a troubled past. lmfao. goosefruava....

But please don't come at me with a bat. I will be forced to cap your ass, then hang you upside down from the rafters. Skin you and mount your bones on my trophy wall. Then boast to my other fellow Hunters' not on this site about my kill.

btw I am just totally fucking around ;)

well attending a con and knowing that people at the con are TOTALLY different things. i can walk around the con and nobody will know who i am. or i can walk around and talk to and introduce myself to MANY people. the latter will make me a part of the community as i actually interact with the others and get to know them.

like i said, if you need any assistance feel free to find me. :)

yeah, seriously.  i know this guy that i dont get along with at all, we used to be friends, etc. hes goign ot be there, and i just plan on having fun with my actual friends.  the way i see it, the best thing to do is to just enjoy the hell out of fanime; have fun like its a competition. live it up. then think about how happy you are and you wont even care about their dumb silly self.

i personally think on how much of a good time i had this year, and the fun im planning on having this year, and the fact that he is just going ot be some faux-aloof douche-bag-loner who wont be having nearly as good a time. and i think that to myself, and cackle. in my head of course, otherwise i'd look like a madman.

WHAT?? You're just gonna run away like that to resolve it?  JUST HAVE FUN AT THE CON WITHOUT WORRING!!  If sh*t happens, you have to be man enough to tell them "f*** off" or "suck my d***".  Its just too sad for me to hear from people not attending fun cons just because they worry over sh*t like drama and scenery!  Just ask the brain age guy at fanime if you are worried about that!  Almost most of me and my friends went through that and it doesn't stop us!

Amon_Devilman:
I think its best for you just to go your own way and lets things die.

Your situation sounds way too familiar. Except my friend is the female. She pretty much has dealt with it and moved on.
But the guy used to badmouth her a lot. And tell people off her and her friends. I experienced that first hand. But one of the people was and is still my friend so I eventually met the others. And believe me, they are not bad people like the guy tried to make them sound like.
You must understand that from the other side, things seem and are just as bad.

You can't let things like this affect your life. So what if you have to deal with people you've had problems with. Being around and dealing with an ex may be hard but you just can't let these things carry on after many years have past. Just do your own thing and if you run into said party, just ignore them. The drama will die down if you just leave it alone to do so. Even though you may be writing things to get advice or just to get stress out, remember that it can get back to the other party involved. Even if things have died down on the other end, such things can incite more drama.

Also, just know that friends of the other party are not always acting in behalf of said other party. They may just want things to work out and drama to die away. You may or may not be the same guy as the one I dealt with before. However if you are, I ask you to just leave her alone. She does her own thing and is happy.

Man up. You're going for your own fun, and someone that doesn't agree with you shouldn't matter. How could you be so sure that they even care? Chances are, unless they made threats to directly approach you, you won't even have an issue. Is your life and well-being threatened by attending? If not, then there's not much to worry about. You're just being weak by going through the trouble of refunding your money and not attending because you want to hide from someone else that has the confidence to have fun without problem. The only reason you SHOULDN'T attend is because you honestly don't want to go.

That is pretty lame, not going becuase a bunch of fucktards will be at the convention.
Sorry to tell you this, but that is life. Assholes are everywhere. Sink or Swim. You, my friend, have drowned.

There were people who were blindly offering you campanionship and friendship. That is quite a lot comming from people who are complete strangers.
I am sure you may have your reasons, and I hope they are true. Otherwise you will be one sad puppy when the con comes around and your stuck sitting at home.

QFT.

This sort of thing applies to life in general. If you can't even handle that, well... good luck. This is a con-- if you have fun going to it, then go. If you're going to let a couple of people you don't like scare you off, then what happens when you work with someone you don't like? Are you going to quit your job? For one thing, you're going for YOU-- not for them.

Who the hell cares that she can play victim? Do you even have to come in direct contact with her? Why are you even letting her determine where you should go, and whether or not you should have fun? You being weak and pathetic and deciding to run away, you're just letting her have things her way. Seriously, grow a spine.

But maybe you're right. Maybe you shouldn't go. If you're going to let something like this bother you so much while you're there, you're probably not going to have any fun at all. <--- Such applies to the rest of life. What're you going to do, then?

Wow.... I just found out today that I'm not in the financial trouble I thought I was, and thus don't have to refund my money, and I see all this.

Probably should have been more specific about the why for my refund, but the power was dead in my place due to a bounced check, and laptop batteries are not fun for message board posting.

So yeah, looks like I'm still going.

Wow.... I just found out today that I'm not in the financial trouble I thought I was, and thus don't have to refund my money, and I see all this.

Probably should have been more specific about the why for my refund, but the power was dead in my place due to a bounced check, and laptop batteries are not fun for message board posting.

So yeah, looks like I'm still going.
well, at least the reason isn't because you're going to let one person be all mad and pissy at you.

If I am the guy you're talking about, believe me, all I used to do is leave the room when she showed up. By the by, does the guy you're thinking of have black hair and glasses?
OR, and this is just me thinking it this way, this is one scenario: you are in the dealers room, and so is she, when she notices you're there too; instead of just leaving the room when she shows up, let her be all mad if she wants to and enjoy it.

yea, this has probably been posted a gajillion time now, but its the truth;  you've already left it in the past, but if she cant get over what happened in the past, then it shouldn't affect you. just enjoy the con.

Nope. Doesn't sound like him. He didn't have glasses. I've never seen him with any.
Nor did the guy ever leave the room.

Though the situation was too much the same. And even your username sounded like his name.
I'm glad. I was afraid that she might have to deal with him again.
I realize that the situation could be really common due to how many anime fans attend universities with anime clubs. But the whole writing class bit and name was way too eerily close.

I wish you luck with your situation. I still think you should try to just live normally as if you never met her.

Really? Considering I came up with this name years ago, forgot it existed, then found it again when I tried registering again for the forum this year, that's remarkable of a coincidence. Any details about the guy that would help me make sure we're not meant to kung fu fight later down the road?

Are you serious? Again, if you would let something like this worry and bother this much while at the con, it might be better off you didn't go afterall. For one thing, I'm fairly certain that if Sunara in fact is a "part of this", she wouldn't care so much as to intentionally ruin your fun. You're overly paranoid, and you let the opinion of others dictate your actions way too much.

And which circle too.... -.-;
I only know of a couple that were ever an issue.
???

Is the university SJSU then? And Tsunami anime club?  ???

You're really under no threat from or to me. However I do not back down when if someone is deliberately messing with my friends. Which you seem not to be. So there is no issue as far as I am concerned.

I have friends at other schools and friends that visit multiple anime clubs. And that's even if I am indeed related to this at all. I want to know how this might affect me if I am indeed in said group.

I don't want a fight pal, and were this thread never going to connect to my issues in the real world, I wouldn't be phased.

Considering that following info about Sunara Ishi that proves that she is in fact in said person's circle of friends just means that this is all going to bite me in the ass.

I'll still go to con, but avoidance is definitely going to be a thing should I find myself in a position where this thread does cause me to not enjoy the con.

When did I say I'd fight? I said I'd help you.  That means talk it out with them or talk to you about it.  If they threw a punch, that's a different story.

If you want I can go with you to the Tsunami meetings if it's that awkward there.  I live a block off campus so it's no problem to me.

I'm not a violent person by any means, so any time I offer solutions it normally means talking it out.

I wasn't intending on mentioning anything to anyone concerning this thread if that is what you are worried about.
As long as you aren't seeking to hurt or cause trouble for my friends, I'd rather not cause them more stress than they already get with school and other stuffs. I was getting worried because people were posting about tagging around with you in such a way that might pose a danger to my friends. There was way too many things that sounded like threats.
[upon further re-reading: some of the things were people joking back and forth with each other rather than actual threats.]

Support groups are good and all unless they turn on someone and become a mob.

I would like to note that sometimes seeking people out for support, especially when there is little drama, may make the other party think that you are spreading false rumors about them. Its hard to think about what the outside perception is when you are on the inside. Its way too easy for things to break apart just at the slightest unintended nudge.

When I said that posting things like this, is that it may get to the other parties involved. Not that I'd be doing so. A forum this size is frequented by many and not everyone posts or creates an account.

If this is fairly recent tsunami activity, I may not be in said group. -.-; Because we haven't been too active in coming... Though I do acknowledge that it is highly likely we are on opposite ends.

But as long as my friends aren't being affected, I really don't care. Just live and enjoy your life, ok?

Wow. Paranoid much? Hey, news flash... no one cares.

No one here cares enough to actually give you trouble here, so don't flatter yourself. You're right, though. Judging from your posts, your con experience will probably be a bad one, but this isn't anyone's fault but yours and the type of person you are. Because of how personal you interpret things and how neurotic you are about someone no one gives a shit about, how you let something so trivial dictate your thoughts and actions, it's just pathetic to see someone as weak-minded as you are.

No one cares. If you went, probably nothing would happen BECAUSE no one cares... except you making it hard on yourself because you're so paranoid about things that wouldn't happen instead of enjoying the con. In the end, it probably would've been better if you decided not to go, otherwise, take the advise of what EVERYONE HERE has been trying to say and enjoy the god damned con if you do end up going. No one here's out to get you, no one even cares to bother to find out who you are because for all we know, you're a nobody. If anything, you're just making yourself look really idiotic.

Do these people even hate you? Or do they just find you REALLY annoying? Because if that were the case, I could see why.

And if this were to ever happen, it'd probably be because they're supporting something for the wrong reasons.

Why in gods name did you make this a thread even I wouldnt do this.

btw this should be in the drama section =x

Because it was simply started as a question about if there was a way to just go about the con without worrying about overreactions from the other party. No drama, or complaining or nothing. Just a simple answer.

Then details were shared, and then it looked like my finances were going to get tight so I'd have to cancel going to the con (and everyone jumped on the "Oh weak dude" bandwagon), but then my finances fixed themselves enough that I could still go to con, but it turned out I picked up a person that is part of said clique on the thread, which usually would mean that gossip would spread, drama would build and whatnot. However, as I last posted, I'm just going to go to con, try to enjoy myself, and wing it in case of drama.

So, all of you who are just posting here for the sake of poking fun at me, the joke is both old and late. I'm going to con, I'm going to enjoy myself, and that's that.

Now, get the hell off my thread.

Save yourself the humiliation and... stop defending yourself in this thread. You've already made yourself look like a pathetic idiot. You post a thread on advice on what to do... then you get upset when the information within it becomes more personal? You set yourself up for that one-- if you don't want your personal issues to be discovered, OBVIOUSLY don't make a thread ABOUT your personal issues! What was the point of posting this thread in the first place if you weren't going to listen to the advice anyway?

Congrats on your decision to suck it up and go to the con, though. Don't even think about the drama that you keep constantly worrying about, because I assure you, that WILL pretty much destroy hope in enjoying the time you spend there.

I don't even understand why you had to share it with everyone i don't see the need for you to go on and make this into a thread. Why are you defending yourself if you don't care? whats the point? YOu posted a thread about Drama at con...Expect to get negitave feed back.

And to tell us to get off your Thread is quiet childish.

Jun-Watarase: A person who doesn't defend himself is a pathetic idiot. If he does, he's just an idiot that still has his pride. And the only reason I got a bit freaked out is because I'm talking about a person who takes every coincidence of my being at con in the same room as her as some kind of stalker behavior (which never goes well in this day and age, regardless of innocent or not). So, when I say my experience and my judgement, you can believe there's a legitimate reason for it.

Short_storiesgl: I say get off my thread because if you're not going to try to discuss my problems in a respectful manner, then just don't comment. That... and I'll admit after hearing Joecool talk about my dick so much, my temper was pretty much gone. ^_^;;

To everyone: I have no problem discussing my drama with people if I can find either some sympathy. I was especially happy when I found that I did have some support in regard to my right to enjoy the con without worry.

And the biggest problem I have right now is that I pretty much made my choice to go to con and enjoy 12 posts ago, then random people come in and decide to start on me after I made the right choice. Seriously, you random guys popping up at the end of the thread are sucking all the enjoyment out of my decision.

So, let's all just enjoy the fact that I AM going, and maybe we'll all run into each other and have a good ol' time.

Enjoy the con. I'm sure if you don't intentionally become a part of your own problem again, ie, intentionally confront anyone involved and/or stalk her, it wouldn't be a problem. If they confront you with issues, handle the problem maturely and if it calls for it, report them if they're harassing you. That's it. Otherwise, ignore the problem altogether.

As for people continuing to make comments, and people making idiotic remarks like Joecool's... welcome to the internet. I advise you to grow a tougher skin both here and in real life, according to what you've said in your posts. The internet isn't here to offer you sympathy whenever you feel like you need to whine about your own personal drama. It'll make you feel better when it's present, but probably won't aid you in any way. Eventually, if you're an idiot in your posts, someone will point it out.

Anyways, to lock the thread, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and there should be a tab on the lower left corner. :T
