If you are homme (male), femme (female), androgynous or trans;
if you are petite or tall;
if you are frail, tough, voluptuous, and feel really photogenic;
if you are confident, timely, and professional with zero or some or lots of experience:
Please apply as a model!

If you are rich and experienced;
if you are poor and experienced;
if you have a portfolio and want to add to it;
if you are able to turn out design concepts in a month and produce them in the two months afterwards:
Please apply as a designer!

If you are personable;
if you know how to use a needle & thread but aren't designing yet;
if you want to help put together Antagonite Fashion and gain top-notch experience in professionalism;
if you're studying photography, fashion, cosmetics, stagetech, or marketing:
Please apply as a volunteer (usher, staffer, apprentice, etc).

Hey there.  Curator and Executive Producer for FanimeCon's Antagonite Fashion.  This show is for the exhibition of several SF Bay Area designers and designers in the anime community.  Antagonite will be held with Fanime’s MusicFest, the concert event featuring indy musicians from the Japanese and stateside scenes.

We are looking for models, designers, and volunteers.  Models with any level of experience (or none!) are welcome.  We need all body types, even the voluptuous.  Designers and photographers are subject to discussion and approval of their work (portfolio review).  All applicants must apply with a physical copy of the interest form.  You can download the form and the calendar of deadlines on the Yahoo Group entitled "Antagonite".  More details on the site.

Ok, there should be no minimum.  However, those with the resources are responsible for making a comprehensive, original collection.  Remember that in "design land" (and this goes for every kind of design), the number of ideas is valued more than the quality of ideas, whether you are just starting out or already established.  What you see on the runways of TV and magazines isn't a product of stick-it-on-and-go, or about being a hit.  The truth about being creative is that it's a conscious effort to bring something powerful and relevant to your audience.  After your experience in the show, you may understand that the process of creating fashion for the runway isn't a labor of love--it's a process of revision with a group of people that will give you feedback, but it's your responsibility!

No more talk of last year.  This year we hope to attract and showcase the work of design students and those people who have already established themselves as Designer by profession, especially in the underground communities.

Would you like to get involved?  Please check out "Antagonite" on Yahoo Groups and join so that the team can work more closely together.  Join so we can discuss the dos and don'ts that we learned from last year.  It's the message board/links/files/calendar group for anyone: models, designers, tech, PR, friends, etc.  We are looking for staffers who'll give us the most contribution.

Oh. :c

I miss it fondly, and all my school work and my design work that is supposed to be for FanimeCon and for fashion shows to come.  I promised the work so sincerely too.

Please get the word out and ask around.  Ask friends, and ask strangers if they happened to see it go someplace.  Please do your damnedest to keep it in mind and bring it up to do your part for me in this community.  I've experienced good behaviour points in life, and I'm sure you will enjoy them too.

Because no one volunteered to draft the plan for it, gather a team, publicize it, and most importantly, run it.

To question your situation is a great thing--
if it is followed by the solution to the current situation.  Nowsiddown.

Quote from: "Nina Star 9"thought i shoudl ask here- what shoudl one do about gothic lolita make-up? . . .
i have asked a lot of people, and they oftentime just point me int eh direction of typical (minimal) sweet lolita make-up, but i want somethign a little bolder and darker. :/ any suggestions?

It looks like you are to pave the grounds for the application of this look!  The scene is so young, I'm sure there are more people with the same question than there are people with the answer to it.  The best thing to do is to use theatrical photo reference and images associated with literature.

I imagine there's a level of romance or the blush of innocence you want to convey too, so take a look at classical French paintings.  I doubt that the painters really used the colors that came with their subjects' actual face--hence, we 'put on our face'.

Just try a bunch of references.
Ok, and for the colored peoples out there, you don't have to go WHITE pale to go gothic in any sense.  First, try contrasts in your clothing, then your hair and eyeliner.  Black is so blatant, so if your filosophy doesn't shrink away, use glimmery crimsons, emeralds and ocean blues.  Exploooooore.

Quote from: "Elysium"Oh yeah, makeup! I'm not very good at makeup (since I'm a guy) and gothic makeup to boot. Would it be ok to hire a helping hand? I'd be willing to pay like, 25 bucks per application for me and my buddy. Or pay for a meal at one of the hotel restaurants for you and a friend. This makeup thing is one thing I totally forgot. I had my Aunt come over for a makeup session on Tuesday to get an idea of what I would look like with makeup, but I totally zoned out that I would have to apply it!
I'm looking for somone that could help with gothic style makeup.

So, anyone interested in helping out two guys?

Don't be foolish with your money!  Even someone who's good at this stuff offhand shouldn't charge anything.  You can get a free consultation at any place in the mall.

Consultation means they walk you around the store and ask you what your look is supposed to be, and you choose the products in their store, and they put it on you right there.  They teach you how to do your own face!  Many people go to do this on the day of their Formal or Prom because it's free and they learn from it.  Then, it's your prerogative to buy the product because you can use it at home with the knowledge you have gained.

On the other hand, at-con application is nice too.  You can zip right to your event, and chances are, there are a bunch of cosplayers with the right tools on their person.  You can make a new friend, and you can definitely dine together to make one fair favor for another.  Do not pay any money to get a thin layer of pigments on your face!

Woooo makeup . . .

There's no such thing as a place to get 'gothic makeup'.  Gothic is a lifestyle, but before that, it's an image.  So go get a consultation for the image you want to achieve.  Try MAC consultants, for they know their customers are usually comfortable with something wild and bold.

Some brands cater to a certain look, but don't let that stop you from asking.
Do not get CoverGirl or other cheap drugstore stuff.  It will make you break out faster than other brands.  L'Oréal is good and inexpensive; that same company manufactures Lancôme cosmetics.  They are of haut qualité!

Last of all, do not invest in anything that changes the consistency of your complexion.  I encourage you to stay away from concealers, face powders, heavy blushes, and other powders or creams that go on your cheeks.  Trust me; do not wear the Halloween crap.  Do not improvise with cheapos when it comes to yo'face.

Why risk breaking out and damaging your skin permanently?  If you want to play up the pallor for a gothic look, wear contrasting clothes and eye/lip makeup.  You are going for porcelaine, not bone dry.  Same rule as contact lenses: do not wear makeup for too long at a time, and go wash up so you can reapply.

Haaaaail yeah!

Ideas are still dime-a-dozen.  The design part involves thoughtfulness, a memory of outside experiences, and refined craftsmanship to make something truly memorable.

In any case, you are like mini-Dante Basco as Rufio of the Lost Boys!  Let's have a show of fists fo' our own sistah Nina! Awooooooh!

Power.

The -Hip Gothic- of fan extrusion.  What could still survive as tasteful underground style is quickly disintigrating to make a killing off of you people!

Have a philosophy in your mundane activities, people!  Communication thru clothing is one of them!

This doesn't sound like a Live Programming event, just 'what-if' posts.  Sorry to be 'that guy' to break it.

1) Thanks, Meli.  Could you please come to the rehearsal on the 27th, Ballroom C, from 9 to 11 a.m. to help us out?  Then, 4 to 6 p.m. help keep up team morale by reminding the models of that morning's instruction?  Spectators are welcome.

2) Nina, most everyone will be able to hit the con during the day.  Those who have a little more stuffed in their making-Fanime-happen schedule, we'll be making sure that our ship is in shape!  It is a matter of fact for models that the rehearsal starts at 9 sharp and the event setup begins at 4 sharp.

If you are wearing a costume that is specifically from a J-rocker's photo shoot, or an identifiable outfit from a character in game/animation/comics that is, in fact, in publication, then your business is with Der Cosplay.

If your clothing is made to follow a mood, a lifestyle or a theme but is not in publication, then your business is with the fashion show.  General, no-brainer questions will no longer be answered.  All business with the fashion show must be addressed to [email protected].

There are no 'costumes' of other people's imagination in this show.

If you have designed:
· articles or a collection of articles
· that is influenced by J-rock, or GL, or EGL, or whatever L,
· or influenced by other styles around the world
· but isn't a carbon copy from photographs, games, or manga you have seen

then you can wear it or put it on models in the fashion show.

If you have clothing that is a carbon copy of something, that's what Der Cosplay is for.

Poetry, cause I would have wanted to do Milla Jovovich's character, but I am not the gathering type and instead turn my efforts to the spoken word:

Cosplay, how do I define thee?

a phenomenon of theatrics
a subculture
an excuse to be yourself
an excuse to be not yourself
an emerging profession
a tumultous relationship of sweat and tears [haha, seams.]
some crazy convention thang

Gathering, how do you define too?

a play within a play
thislandish food and language and gadget + thatlandish clothing
too many underdog characters (supporting role)
not enough of the star character (for some reason . . . )
big boat of long-labored investment
one-time-use theatrics, most appropriate for disposable cameras
that other crazy thingos

Maybe I'll read this at a late-nite poetry slam on Friday and Sunday of the convention?

OMG IT'S JUST SWIMSUITS and an endless CASH COW OF FIGHT GAMES,

an improper EXCUSE TO SELL THE FACADE OF 'CHARACTER DESIGN' in the less proper form of OBJECTIFICATION.

Now, I dig cosplay and the talents of budding theatrical geniuses, but I cannot support the machine of this shite, no matter how good the clothing design becomes in any medium.
