Hey everyone :) Apart from the gathering, my friend is trying to organize a group of people who are each dressing as a different Pokemon from the original 151. If you are going to be dressing up as one of the original ones, please feel free to sign up on the Facebook event!

This is a bit different, as it is one each of all the Pokemon rather than a free-for-all. Thanks for the link, though!

Please see the Facebook event here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=169616283054926

Here is the information from the creator, Chris:
So. Ever wonder why it is your life just has that feeling of incompleteness. That sinking loneliness that crops up when you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and realize you're the only person in the room dressed like a Pokemon?

Well fellow anthropamorphs, worry no more! For today is the day where we, as unisex creatures bred for war, come together and show off our solidarity not just for Pokemon chosen by their respec...tive trainers, but also for the Pokemon that never get picked: Kakuna, dragonaire, etc. Well, by today I mean Fanime 2011, otherwise that'd just be weird.

Here's the plan: 151 people are going to come to Fanime in May as a group, with every person dressed and made up as one of the original 151 Pokemon. This group is going to stay the whole weekend, garnering much nerdpoints, as well as having a riotously good time.

Event-page to be updated frequently as details are made clear.

I highly suggest you join the Facebook event to reserve your Pokemon spot today!

I think a lot of these people don't realize they smell. They took their morning shower, put on deoderant...and stopped having friends around 4:00PM. What gives?

If you let them know, please be kind about it. Also it's better to hear it from a friend than a stranger who runs up to you, throws deoderant in your face, and yells, "YOU STINK!"

Just a note, La Victoria breakfast burritos have probably gone up in price. I will investigate :D

Results of the investigation: $2.50! Still rather cheap for what you get, thought. Plus that delicious orange sauce...

Just park in a lot or in the garage on San Carlos and 2nd street (it's $2 on weekends!). It'll be cheaper than hotel parking.

Breakfast burritos at La Vic's are now $3.25 ... but still darn good!

Hotel and Facilities / A Parking Request...
March 25, 2009, 06:17:23 PM
Hello everyone!

I recently moved nearby the convention center (right behind it, in fact) and I notice something every convention: people with $51 tickets on their windshield because they parked in a permit parking only spot. It also aggravates all the people who live on the street because there is no place for them to park!

So, just a heads up: unless you want a ticket, park in a garage or lot! It's definitely cheaper and about the same distance to walk.

Thank you :)

I don't know who to talk to about this, but I think that the registration people should give y'all a free pre-regs for next year. It's the least we can do as a con that is by fans, for fans... and you definitely seem like a fan.

I'm sorry to hear about the hardships you went through, but I am glad to hear that you are alright and I hope the driver can regain the use of his legs.

Hey y'all, just fyi:

The "online registration" he's talking about has nothing to do with pre-registering or early registration. When I went with some friends to get their badges, Fanime had computers set up where you entered in your own information (First name, Last name, etc.). You had the option of connecting to the registration website wirelessly if you had a computer in line with you, then you could skip to the front of the line. I agree, if this website where people were registering at-con were made available to people at home, they could have quickly had their information sent to Fanime and then paid for and received their badges upon arrival.

Friday: Redeath @ 8:00, maybe some AMVs, rave
Saturday: Gaia @ 5:00, Masq @ 6:00, rave
Sunday: Nescaflowne @ 1:00, AMVs, rave

Somewhere in there I want to catch some foreign films... I think they are a very underrated part of Fanime that I love!

Well papertiger, unless you are a guy named Eric who chatted me up on the way home from Fanime tonight on the light rail, I think you'll do fine.

Here's what Eric did wrong:
-he asked too many personal questions right off the bat (have you lived in San Jose long, where are you going, who do you live with, can I get your number?)
-he didn't pick up on the cues from me that I obviously didn't want to talk.

So basically, stick to "neutral" topics (anime, manga, etc. at the con, maybe likes/dislikes if you notice she has a pin on her bag of your favorite band or whatnot). Pay attention to her. If she answers you but doesn't ask a question back, or sticks to simple "yes" or "no" answers, then back off. If she seems like she wants to have a conversation with you, then continue on. Also know when to stop. If she keeps checking her cell phone or looking at her schedule, she probably wants to stop talking to you and go elsewhere. Smile, say it was nice to meet her, and that you hope you'll see her around. If you get a good vibe from her, maybe she'll ask for YOUR number! Good luck!

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Parking???

You could always park in a free park n ride lot along the lightrail line and ride the lightrail in to the area, or if you park at the Diridon station ($2) you can take the free DASH bus downtown:
"Downtown Light Rail Shuttle Also known as the DASH, for the Downtown Area Shuttle, this service circulates on a fixed-route through downtown San Jose and connects with downtown Light Rail Stations as well as the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station. You can use the shuttle to make direct connections from Light Rail or Caltrain with employment sites such as Adobe Systems, PG&E, Wells Fargo, Comerica Bank, downtown hotels, and many other businesses. You may also make connections with San Jose State University and other bus routes, and transfer from Caltrain to Light Rail and vice versa. "

http://www.vta.org/schedules/SC_201.html for the map

Best of all... DASH is free and parking at Diridon station is only $2 per day. You can park at the garage on San Carlos & 3rd street on the weekend for $2/night on the weekends and holidays, so you might want to move your car on Saturday morning if you want it to be closer to you.

I hate to say this but... bump.

I'm starting up a Princess Nine group! So far it's just me and Tabbychan...we haven't decided who is going to be who.
#16
Oh, and to clear up any possible confusion: This isn't a gathering, but a group of people for a day/the whole weekend. We wouldn't have to hang out together the whole time, but I don't want to just meet for a half hour and take photos. That'd be boring :P
#17
Someone messaged me about this, very interested in joining. I can't find your message! Please post here or send me another PM. Thanks!

Would anyone be interested in doing a Princess Nine group with me? Ideally for the whole group we'd need 11 people, but 3 or 4 would be great too.

Let me know if you're interested! If there are enough people, we could start planning the sewing/who's who aspect of this. I still want to do it, but it'd be great if I had a few others with me!

(taken from Wikipedia):
The story concerns the trials of nine girls at the Kisaragi School for Girls who form a baseball team for the purpose of playing on equal footing with boys' teams at the most prestigious high school tournament in Japan, The National High School Baseball Championship. Their aim to qualify for, and ultimately to champion, the final rounds of the tournament which is held each year at the Koshien Stadium.

Milpitas is way too far away from the con! I think you'd have to take a bus to get there and the bus ride would be about an hour and a half (not sure, just estimating). Try to find something within a 1 or 2 mile radius from the con, or along the light rail line so you can take that in. www.vta.org has the light rail map. Fanime is located at the Convention Center stop!

Food will not cost you that much! La Victoria's taqueria sells breakfast burritos for $1.50 (or $1.75? i dunno, under two dollars) that are very filling and nutritious (eggs and protein!). Also, I would not buy the food from the convention vendors--it's all incredibly marked up. There are many restaurants downtown where you can buy really tasty and healthy food for cheap. Try Pita Pit, La Vic's, Iguana's, or even one of the pizza places! There is even a sushi place in Plaza de San Antonio (like 2 streets away from the con).

As for the walking around at night comment...I personally would, but I would be cautious. Always go with a group of friends to be on the safe side! Many of the restaurants downtown are open late for the people leaving clubs and such.
