Homestuck! / Re: Homestuck's Acceptance
March 21, 2014, 12:24:58 PM
I don't like to get into the few 'bad apples' that are in the fandom as there are in all randoms and in life. I would love to hear more people post their general Homestuck experience in the "BACK IN MY DAY" thread. My story started with bad impressions of the Homestuck fandom but I gave it a shot and now it's like my family.
If there are specific Homestuck people that are not representing the fandom how we would like but hey everyone is entitled to be themselves and if that how they want to act then I feel like they won't have a lot of friends. But that doesn't mean they have no friends! I'm saying it's their choice and everyone has that right.
If there is a particular person or group affiliate that does not represent Homestuck (and I'm saying they are being offensive or hurtful to people then I think we should bring that to peoples attention but I personally highly detour posting names of these individuals online since I don't want to attack them based on other peoples words or experiences. If they are a true threat or make people uncomfortable, Fanime has no problem removing their badge and removing them from Fanime. Do not be afraid to inform the staff.

Some people say 'let's show people they're wrong for thinking homestuck is bad' or 'homestuck is rude and a terrible fandom' I say leave the past in the past and just be happy and yourself and let people get to know you and see your love and passion for the fandom instead of trying to say ' Homestuck is known for being bad'. It really hurts me that people who are fans of Homestuck would even say such a thing like it's a fact. We are great and SAY IT!<3

sorry to flood with links but I know a few I use as references:
Homestuck Cosplay Help: http://hscoshelp.tumblr.com
Homestuck Pattern Reference: http://homestuckpatternreference.tumblr.com
Homestuck Masterlist Reference: http://homestuckcosplayhelp.tumblr.com
The Masterlist reference covers everything from where to buy the most accurate shoes to patterns and Godtiers! :)
I do hope they are helpful and I know for sure there are plenty more links available. These are simply the ones I have on hand. - Ciello[color]

Homestuck! / Re: BACK IN MY DAY
March 21, 2014, 11:50:30 AM
I would like to share a short story of how I first got into Homestuck! The very first convention I saw Homestuck cosplayers at I asked whom they were or were cosplaying or what they were from. They were extremely rude and seemed to portray this 'if you don't know you aren't worth our time' attitude.
So for a long while I was turned off to looking into Homestuck. But after several more conventions seeing people cosplay from it and seeing the real love people have for it I decided to give it a try. I had a small group of friends that went to cons with me and NONE of them were willing to give it a try at all. So alone I read it and alone I fell in love with it. At that point I never cosplayed and I was so shy to and didn't know how so when I saw Homestuck cosplayers at cons I felt like a family member that was left out (only cause I was shy) since I didn't 'look like them'. I wasn't a kid or a troll so I thought if I went to talk to them that they would not realize I was just as much a fan as them.
But since I've been cosplaying (I have never full grayed but I made horns, got a wig, made a shirt, ext) and attending/ helping set up gatherings I've made so many friends and I almost come to tears because Homestuck to me is not just a webcomic or a fandom but it is a FAMILY and a COMMUNITY. When one of us is sad or feeling bad about a cosplay someone makes fun of, there is always a Homestuck friend that may not have even met you besides online and may live far away but they will show you care and love.
This is the nicest fandom I've every experienced and I encourage everyone to give it a chance for themselves (not for anyone else!) and yes there are some bad apples but there are in all randoms and in life in general. For anyone who read my intro to the Homestuck Fandom, thank you for your time. This means so much to me and you are all my family.

Ancestors, I assumed, go under Trolls by Blood Color. Or do we need a whole separate grouping? If so, we'd need to add Dancestors as well. I've also requested to remove the Video Game Characters category, since (afaik, I'm not a supporter of the game) we don't know what the characters even look like yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I know there was one character design released to supporters but I don't think we need to add the game in, probably until next year.
I feel strongly that the effort that goes into the Ancestors cosplay ( Summoner, Psionic, Mindfang, Condes, all the others as well of course) is a LOT of work and should be acknowledged. I have always had the Dancestors be separate as well (alpha trolls and better trolls just like the alpha and beta kids) at other conventions. Obviously this requires a LOT of different groups to come in and out for the photoshoots but Hussie keeps making characters! -_- And we love them all. I would suggest having troll groups called in Alpha and Beta as oppose to Low Blood and High Blood. We could do both too but the time frame honestly for all the groups and 'couple shots' that might be requested would take several hours. (I spent 3 hours in the sun in Sacramento at a Homestuck Gathering at Sac-Anime and boy did I get sunburn!)
I have always experienced a role call of the kids individually as well as Alpha, Beta groups and then 'prospit and derse siblings' for John/Jade and Rose/Dave and then the flip ship of Rose/John and Jade/Dave but that could take waaaay too much time. I am not certain what the gathering area size is or if it will for sure be indoors or out (I missed Fanime last year but the year prior there was a mass gathering at the park across the street is more then enough room.)
As far as a video game the only one I am aware of is Namco High which is released and the only characters in it are Davesprite, Jane and Terezi and only Terezi has a slightly different outfit then usual; sporting a red hoodie. This I would assume to be acceptable with all other Terezi/Pyrope/Teal-Bloods called up for photos.
I really do hope this is of help and I am happy to continue assisting. I may suggest since most Gatherings are an hour in length, tops that we have an unofficial gathering to continue at the said park across the street where we can have request photos (Scourge Sisters, ships, special requests, ect) and have general hang out time for those whom desire.
EDIT: I noticed after the fact that the meet up IS INDEED at the park. Sorry I didn't notice that before posting.

Cosplay Spectacular = Masquerade
Based on past 3 years time allowed 2:30
Cosplay Spectacular Masquerade has skit entries and costume judging. Awards at the end
Oh, I know this is new stuff to me but I kinda wish there weren't different threads with similar questions posted called 'cosplay spectacular' and also 'masquerade' since it was confusing to me. Then again I am new to this so I don't mean to be pushy. Thanks for clarification.

My boyfriend and I can't get our KH cosplays fixed up since we have other priorities but we'll be at the gathering and I'll take pics.
#27
Hey fellow Stuckies. This Gathering is my priority for Fanime. I will be Sollux, my boyfriend will be Karkat. If you need to fill those Assistant and Photography "Yellers" I am happy to help since I am more interested in taking pics then being in them.
Also I noticed the photo line up lacks Ancestors and I request they be added. Thanks and let me know what I can do to make this happen.

Love this anime and I really hope more cosplayers can join so I can take pictures. If there are not a lot of people that can make it I might need to pass. I really hope an Uryu can make it.

Just reposting that I'll be therr are Nina Tucker (Chimera form)
and my friend Souseiseki will be Edward
Thanks for stabbing me in the heart with feels. I'll absolutely be there to take pictures. My boyfriend might be able to pull together his Wrath cosplay but I think the wig is destroyed so pending we get a new one fashioned in time :/

Permitting time I'll be at the gathering to photograph and in the case I am, I am happy to give some direction as to the line up of photos. I was going to ask if Kingdom Hearts would be acceptable as well but I personally feel the KH fandom has a large enough following for its own gathering(which I am sure there is one) but KH versions of FF characters should absolutely attend. I'll keep up to date on where I'll be to take pics. Final Fantasy Forever.

I cannot express how old this thread makes me feel... But hey I am super happy people appreciate the classics (even if the classics were when I was 15 according to your year considering things 'old school') We may attend based on time available. My boyfriend and I might bust out some Tokyo Babylon but there is already a CLAMP gathering so we may have to choose between this and that and since when is EVA old school?! 3.33 just came out... le sigh... we're old. But we'll also be Shinji and Kaworu so there are several options we may be. I can state more certain cosplays and confirm if we'll attend as events and gatherings become more solid. Thanks for the opportunity to bust out some old school appreciation :) I so look forward to taking pics.

we have a lot of events to go to but my boyfriend might bring back his retired Koji cosplay if more people can commit to the Gathering and if there are no conflict of interests with other events. I'd be there to photograph.
#33
So long as I don't have a conflict of interest for this gatherings time slot I will be there to take photos. I will also have business cards available so you can find where they will be posted. I will additionally announce what website you can find them on once I have an official "Convention/Cosplay" FB or tumblr page up. Currently my photos are posted on my personal page so its very cluttered. I look forward to seeing you all and I am extremely proud and impressed at the sheer volume of this fandom.

Hey all, I hope this is not a lost cause here. My boyfriend's spirit animal is Subaru of Tokyo Babylon/ X Japan :3 And if we can make this gathering happen he will be beyond excited and I would then get my Seishirou cosplay ready as well. We've planned this cosplay for awhile (his Subaru is ready but I have not got my Seishirou done) so if this can be official I will absolutely get my cosplay ready. Much love to all our fellow CLAMP fans.
P.S. I wondered if Code Geass would also be accepted into this gathering as CLAMP did much of the artwork and character design.

I do not have an AC cosplay but as a fan I will be there to take pictures and enjoy the show. I may request some poses or scenes if possible. In 2012 my friend was a Templar and stood up against all the assassins and it was a great scene. Then one by one each person assassinated someone until everyone was dead... then someone came and 'looted' all the bodies. This was the best thing ever and I wish I got it on film but I didn't :( It was all ad libbed! This year I will be prepared with camera so I am hoping some fun shenanigans will ensue after the traditional character and cast line up of photos.
I will have business cards ready as well so people can find the photos I post later. If you consider some requested poses I will love you forever and we'll get some great shots that everyone will have access to.

I cannot make a guarantee until I see the times and locations of other gatherings and also if we get into the Cosplay Spectacular and Masquerade(they are priority). But I will be Sebastian and my boyfriend will be Ciel and I know he will insist we attend the gathering and The Queen's High Tea Party as boc-chan would never turn down such an honorable invitation. I'd be very pleased to bring and serve tea.
I will need to know if the location will be able to provide hot water however and also if serve ware will need acquiring. I have contingency plans if all of the above need be required. I look forward to serving you all and representing my Lord Phantomhive to the best of my abilities.

I am sorry these are not attire related questions but since the site isn't up and I don't see info on my questions; here I go!
1: Is there an entrance fee?
2: Will they have someone to take pictures that you can purchase? (like a prom photo)
3: Any rules regarding face/skin paint or horns? (This is mostly directed for Homestuck cosplayers. I am not planning to Homestuck but I have been to other formal dances at cons where these were strictly prohibited)

1. No entrance fee. But you need to have a Fanime badge to get in.
2. Yes. There is a photo both where you can buy photos.
3. No. Ovbious no one wants paint on their dress/suits.

The first two answers here are correct.  I just want to clarify the last one for you. We have no rules stating that horns or face/skin paint are not allowed. If it's a part of a cosplay, there should be no problem. When it comes to body paint, there is the large chance of it spreading onto the wearer's clothing or even on their partner, so we just ask that if anyone is thinking about it to keep that in mind. :) We had a couple Homestuck cosplayers last year who just faded their paint down their neck to avoid any problems and it worked fine! :) hope that cleared up your questions!

- Rebecca
Wow you guys are the best! Thanks for such quick answers. Again I am not sure what we will do for the ball but if we go paint, we use a latex blend that seals it for several hours and we would also have it fade to avoid such problems as well. Courtesy is the best policy!

There are no official request for time slots in Cosplay Spectacular. If your group has special circumstances, there will be a box in your form when you sign up to describe what your special needs are. I would suggest putting anything out of the ordinary in there, and keep in direct contact with the coordinator to confirm your needs. This is the best way to help the Staff and your group get everything you need.  :D
Thanks so much for the response. It's my first time attempting to full cosplay and skit so I want to ask everything now so I am prepared.

I have never entered a masquerade of costume contest, ect. I was asking about the Cosplay Spectacular in another thread but also wanted to clarify here if the Masquerade also involves skits and if so how long is the allotted time? Thanks for any info!
