PAX 2009 - GET HYPE ? ! ? !
The closested thing to E3 that the public can get to [nowadays]:
http://www.paxsite.com/index.php
Friday thru Sunday
September 4, 5, 6
Location: Seattle, WA [only 14 drive from san jose] :P
PAX stands for Penny Arcade Expo. and is usually around Labor Day Weekend. [First weekend of September].
I know most of you guys will be barely starting school, but I figured I'd throw this out there in case anyone was interested or wanted to rant and build some hype.
I'm trying to bribe / force / kidnap some friends [old or new] and if anyone else shows vague signs of interesting maybe we could work on a game plan for a massive and epically fun road trip.
that and I'm just bored with nothing else to do than day dream about the next epic convention... :P
Hell. I may have enough money by then to go. I may even be able to use my Van to help with carpooling. Maybe...

Same here Lulz.
there are other epic conventions...
SD Comic Con - registration closed :( - fail
SAC Anime - not really my type of Con [I dont want to be shot at again thanks] :P
oh well. :P
There's also Anime LA, PMX, and in 2010 Ani-Jam is coming back.

I don't have the money for PAX, but I'd love to go. If you can find me a really cheap hotel room and transportation, I'll go. =P
As long as I'm not driving where there are a lot of highway changes (I will get us lost), I can take the wheel for a few hours...
Transportation can be split between 5 people in terms of gas.
Hotel room you can cram at least 5 people in easy.
That makes it cheap enough to go =P
Ah, but where are the 5 people?
Also, would need a car that could carry 5 people AND their luggage.

Invest in a minivan.
After playing with Google Maps, Jerry is right on the money, with the trip taking around 14 hours going up I-5 North, or about 17 to 18 if you take I-80 East. We all know which path to take.
If nothing big happens that prevents me from going(and if I have enough money to fund my part of the voyage), then consider me a possibility. I should know for sure my status by the end of the month/beginning of August.
Well, I found out Bungie's going to be there showing off ODST, so I'm definitely going.
I went ahead and booked a ticket for the train ride up, so I won't be carpooling.
I'm still trying to get a hotel room, so if you get the ride part organized, hit me up for the place-to-stay part.
Hope to see you there. I'll stick out. =)

They better handz me the Reconz.
Well at least the right arm of it =P, I don't care about the rest.

Train ride you say? Road trip on a train everyone? LoL...how much was the ticket Dan?
$190. $170 for me but I got a military discount. There's a AAA discount also though.
My SUV should SEAT 4people + luggage so I think I'm volunteering myself as the vehicle of choice.
I drive 2000 Nissan SUV Xterra. - it has made the trip to Seattle before. and yes, We'll rotate drivers when I'm tired/sleep. dont worry its an Automatic no crazy shifting when were going up/down those freak hills and curves.
Hotels run about $170 + taxes [say even rounding up to $200] times 3 nights [friday, sat, sun, check out monday]
So roughly about $600 divide by 5 = roughly $120/person for the weekend
AT CON registration is $60/person
BARE MINIMUM:
So your roughly looking at about $200/person for the weekend . and we'll figure out food/snacks.
Knowing myself I'll be generous and help out with other costs, because I'm cool like that. :P
[we COULD try using a hotel website... but with con this close... we might be SOL] :P
Travel is about 900 miles = with my gas guzzler, I'll deal with that cost so dont worry about it.
Ideally - we have 4 ish people that COULD go:
Trooper - AKA Daniel - has train ticket looking for room.
Otaku - AKA Jesus - maybe
Steve - maybe
Jerry - maybe -> leans to yes if more ppl go.
It's do-able. question is. can we all commit before Labor Day weekend?
Ugh :P here's to hoping things work out.
Other Random notes:
If I do end up going:
I'd like to ideally leave around:
Thursday [9.3.2009] around as early as 8pm
+ 15+ hours drive to get into Seattle by on Friday by 12noon.
Check in Friday, Sat, Sun.
Check out Monday and Drive back in time to be exhausted and working again by Tuesday :P
Woot.
Thurs and Mon dont work for me...I have to be back in time for school...haha yea I have school =P

as far as food/snacks are concerned, we could do a tiny costco trip before the voyage; essentials like water, maybe some trail mix/beef jerky, just small stuff.
If I'm good for this, I will/demand to help pay for gas(Jerry, don't make me have to stuff you full of money because I will).
Since switching of drivers is pretty much required, anyone that has a valid license to drive needs to be in the group, because:
Jerry
+15 hours driving nonstop
= not a good idea.
My drivers test is next week, so hopefully if I pass(and I do stress the word 'hopefully'), this shouldn't be a problem....but just in case, we need a second driver for this.
I drove all the way from LA up back to SJ and then another 2 hours north to drop someone off at their place before.
So...yea. You guys don't even know =P
Steven you should have monday off :P
as for thursday... hmm.. well you could pull a daniel and train ride up if you could afford it.
Yo Daniel, how long does the train ride take?
if its cheaper than going Via car, I might have to consider it :P
My crazy SUV drinks up gas like nothing :P
Train ride is 24 hours, but it's like a mini con with other things going on.
Look on the PAX forums for the West Coast Train Ride or some topic like that. They take the 14 starlight or somesuch going up with all the other PAX goers. Pretty fun it seems like.
Tickets are $90 each way, though there's lots of discounts available (such as 10% off for AAA members).
If I need a hotel room, I should have 2-4 other people that would also be looking for a place to stay. My sister is committed to going, and I have 1-3 friends that may go (Gabe, little asian Cal, and a marine buddy), but I don't think any of them have committed yet.
Right now I'm trying to see if I can stay with my cousin, but I don't know if he'll be kosher with having everyone else stay also or if he'll even be in town.
For getting in touch with me, your best bet is to call or e-mail me directly. I'm not going to check here too often since I'm very busy getting costumes prepped.
Wow, that sounds fun.... This thread is making me wanna go. :-\
Then go! Hah. If you're a fan of Halo I could possibly cast you pieces for an ODST suit, if you pay for the resin, undersuit and such.
with proper funding maybe we could make make an entire squad and escort a "doctor who" into PAX.
that would be fun-
Daniel
Steve
Talyor
myself
OSDT Crew
+ one doctor = otaku.
I like where this is going. :P
eh, its good to make believe.
LOL.

It's also good to spell my name correctly. :P
I know I WANT to go. I just have to see if I need to request time off (besides the weekend.) And also see if I will have the funding for the trip, hotel, food, etc.
Cant...school...and I might have something going on that weekend, dunno yet.
