Starherd ~ Kaila here; just wanted to check if you've gotten any of my emails at all 'cause I did send a payment/contacted you about three weeks ago. ^^; Don't know where else to try to find you so ... hope you don't mind me butting into your thread like this.

Anyway, pleaaaaase get back to me. Have a ton of (good) updates to tell you. :)

*waves enthusiastically!*
...Now I'm worried that my response emails haven't been going through! I know I sent one talking about materials and starting on the pattern... Try emailing me again? I definitely have emails from you but I thought I'd gotten to respond last week!

You certainly got some amazing work ^_^ I'd totally dig a custom corset if I could maintain a constant body size right now! haahaa, and if my boyfriend didn't already have a big enough load on you with his deathspank cosplay ; D haahaa. You got skill! <3

Thank you! I'm doing my best! :D

I've been toying with the idea of making a corset with an entirely removable panel laced into the back (two lines of lacing with it in, one line of lacing without) to help with multi-sizing, if that helps... :)

Amazing~ ;D what would you say is the latest you'd take a comission for one to be done and shipped to in time for Fanime?

As soon as possible? ^_^; I'm a vendor at three shows in March, one or two in April, and have several commissions to fill already, so the sooner I can get everything lined up, the better!

Ahhh ok, maybe I'll comission for Anime Expo :) haven't sketched out my costumes yet so don't want to rush together designs ^^; Good luck with your current comissions! Would love to see pictures of them when your finished c:

Whenever you're ready, holler - I may or may not have space/time, but it never hurts to ask! :)
*salutes* I'll definitely be adding pictures.

I've sadly not had the chance to get pictures of most of those I've made. -_-; If you look through the pictures of the Caterina cosplay at

...

That costume in the link is absolutely stunning~! What type of material do you use to make your corsets?

Thank you! :)
I use cotton twill for the interior, since that's a good sturdy material that's still soft, and I vastly prefer to use steel stays for the boning. ^_^ But I can put any material at all on the exterior for looks.

You're welcome! I might not be looking hard enough, but do you have any examples of your corsets? :)

you'll see my first from a few angles. I've since learned better how to do the bust style as shown specifically in the artbook artwork, however. (I'm actually interested in doing bras, as I seem know a lot of people who have trouble getting the size they need comfortably. Same concept.) I can vouch that that one was comfortable to wear all day. It didn't have a busk in the front (as per the character design), and laced in the back; exterior was silk brocade.

I haven't done many, but given past success am enthused to do more.

The links don't work for me. ): I'm in dire need of a corset!

*facepalm* oh goodness thanks for pointing that out! My website changed! I'll go fix those right away!

Edit: Fixed! ;D

How much do your corsets run on average? I need two for a couple cosplays for fanime.

Just to make sure it goes through/everybody can see:
Corsets run $80-$100 to start depending on size for a basic twill, usually black or white. Exterior designs (a different material on the outside, straps and buckles, etc.) add to the price; all depends on what you choose. :)

Will you be bringing and steel stay corsets to Fanime with you?

I currently have no funds to stock anything that's not specifically needed for a commission, so I have no steel stays at all (and won't until someone orders something that requires them).

I can take measurements and commissions at and before the con, however. Corsets are really something that should be individually fit to each person.

If you're in the Bay Area in CA, Colorado Springs in CO, or anywhere along rt.s 70 or 80 in between, I'll actually be travelling that way this weekend and could take measurements (or make a "tape tape dummy" of your torso) if you like.

Does anyone know where I can find white short aprons like here? :: http://cgi.ebay.com/cos0010-He-My-Master-Maid-Dress-Cosplay-Costume-/280496928989?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item414eeb78dd#ht_3236wt_905

I don't know where to buy, but the apron alone looks pretty simple to make - there's patterns at fabric stores for such (I've used them before so I know they make 'em). Do you sew at all? :)

That sounds like it would work just fine, actually. :) Good luck!

Thanks for your help.
And no, I do not. ^^
But I'm thinking of creating an apron out of white unwanted bedsheets.

i'm going to cosplay as majeh envoy version alternate color..its the guy in the picture. well i'm wondering if anyone knows how to style his hair go up like axel and dbz hair and then back down. its like a lobsided upside down v.
please help if you can, cuz i'm still staring at different wigs.
well i got an ivy wig from cosworx for it, but i still need some advice on the construction half of it, how should i make it go up,and then come back down, and be able to stay that way?

My best try would be to shape the locks using elmer's glue, and if they refused to stay in the correct place, work in some v. similar-colored wire to hold them in the right position. (They'll take a good bit of glue though. You'd want to use latex gloves and scoop it on your fingers, and then work it into the hair the way you would putting hair gel in your own hair. And you'd have to hold it in place as it dried.)

I dont know if people just skipped it cause its to hard or just did notice it but. Im want to make the Cait Sith's Mog.

.

Im thinking of using some hula hoops, but any other advice would be great.

You could string together hoops - not necessarily hula hoops; you could make them from firm plastic tube with a piece of dowel stuck inside to put the cut ends together, so that you can have gradiated sizes - so that when they're inside the fur shell, they hang like a chinese lantern to give it the round shape, maybe. Then that part could collapse pretty flat, too, which is an advantage for storage and travel.

The disadvantage with hoops is that they won't necessarily give a smooth shape. What I've seen manufactured mascot costumes do sometimes is create the interior shape out of upholstery foam (making it like a hollow ball) with the fur shell put over that. It can smush to about half its width for storage/travel, or could be made so that the foam pieces would remove entirely and individually store flat.

Another option would be to get one of those inflatable sumo wrestler costumes at Halloween and cover it, but I'm not sure if they'd be sturdy enough for that; I've never met one in person inflated. Yet.

Hi! I'm doing my first cosplay, which is Dead Master, and I'm not sure how to wear her wings?

The back of my dress won't be open like that, and I'm planning on just making her wings out of cardboard then covering it up with craft foam.
I was also planning on just making it one piece, instead of the two different wings.
If the back of your dress won't be open, you could attach the wings to the back of the dress using strong magnets. (There's a silver 1/2"-or-so disc kind at Michael's that are incredibly strong). Put one set on the wings on the outside (facing away from your skin - can cover them with craft foam or whatever material, or paint over them, if you want), and use the other set on the inside of the dress. May want to test first through layers, to see that you get magnets strong enough. Sewing the wings to the dress would be another option, though not as removable.
That sounds like a good idea.
How would the magnet attach to my dress though?
Could sew it in with a small patch, to keep them in one place. That'd be handy, come to think of it. Not sure what kind of glue might work on them, if any...
Um, what if I don't know how to sew? >.<
...Bother. If I was there, I could show you; it'd be a very small amount of hand-sewing. -_-; ...Know anyone who does at all? Wouldn't take any more skill than it does to replace a button, and they at least used to teach that in the military even... XD
Ah, there's no one I know who knows how to sew.
I'm hoping to be able to take some sewing classes soon, though.

It would only take some hand-sewing, rather than dealing with a machine, which is usually what classes are for. Maybe this will help?

ok so im starting 2 new costumes for next year and i had a few questions before i get started on them
first off for my ouka costume

i was wondering how you'd go about making the werefeet boot things
i was planing on making shoe coverings but im worried about having a hard time walking in them x _ x im imagining id have to do the scuba fin waddle
second on her boa, does anyone know how to achieve that nice soft look of it? ive seen some people make it and it looks like a really fluffy towel so i was considering stuffing it a bit and what would i make the ends on it out of?

Hey - if nobody's suggested it yet, and you don't want to use fake fur for the long hair/tassels on the ends there, maybe you could use white wigs? Might be able to find a couple cheap after Halloween, even. :-)
