Hahah, so it already begins, eh?

Well, I haven't bought a badge since I really don't know if I'm sure to have the time next year, but if I do, I hope to make it to one of these. This last year got kinda screwed by the ridiculous badge pickup line, hopefully that'll be better next year.

Video Programming / Re: 2012 FMV Contest - Feedback
June 02, 2012, 01:05:51 AM
I think I said pretty much all I've wanted to say feedback wise during the meet and greet, but honestly I think what I'd like to see more of is A) Having it be in a bigger room, probably the Video Main, and B) Somehow advertised a little bit more.

I wasn't that big of a fan of the dual room setup. While it was great that there was enough space for it, I feel as though a single bigger room lends itself to a better atmosphere when people are watching. I don't know if anyone has been to SakuraCon but they have a gigantic room for 24/7 AMV watching, and the contest being held there has a totally awesome feel to it. I realize that Fanime probably does not have the space to devote to an AMV room like that, but I still the the more people in one location, the better. Plus, you don't have to contend with the music from the next room over pouring over the one you're watching.

As for advertising, while I certainly knew about contest, but it felt like if you were looking for it, you wouldn't really check it out. Maybe have some blurb about it in the pocket guide next time, or set up posters around Stage Zero and vendor area, something of that sort? Or maybe even just a small printout in the bags of attendees?

Other than those two things, I was pretty happy with everything else (well, I suppose minus the minor audio problem on Saturday, I'm just glad it got fixed before my entry got shown :D). Looking forward to making another entry for next year!

I noticed the post at animemusicvideos.org first. I'm so happy! Thank you! :)

Hope you all had a fun weekend and enjoyed the contest.
I shake my fist at you for beating me by one vote :D

Congrats!

Is there anyway to contact the makers of the amv? There were some amvs I would love to witness again.
I guess I may as well put the link here in case someone does want to watch it again, though I do think it'd be pretty neat to have a list/link of where to find the AMV's shows, at least the winners or nothing else. I will say though that if you search in youtube for the name of the AMV's shows, you'll probably have a high chance of finding them.

Well, aside from the obvious registration problems, I really only have two complaints:

1) The concourse area is complete anarchy. At one point people were blocking off the entire area between exhibit halls 2 and 3 because there were some folks breakdancing, which is fine in itself, but really shouldn't be done in the middle of the busiest area. Also, people running up and down the area screaming for no particular reason is really getting out of hand, and I'm beginning to suspect that there were a lot of people around that area without badges when it got to later at night. Might want to think about checking badges at the entrances of the center, not just the halls/panels.

2) I don't know what happened, but on Sunday night music just started playing out of the concourse speakers. I'm not sure if this happened every night or not, but a few friends and I settled into the Stage Zero area to watch Time of Eve, when suddenly the speakers right above the seats started to go off playing random tunes. It was so disappointing and distracting that (after having complained about it to the staff at Stage Zero and just getting a huh, hadn't noticed that before and then a shrug) we just had to leave because it the show unwatchable.

Other than that, I enjoyed the con. Spent probably entirely way too much money which is always a good sign of enjoying one's self, and the people who I were with who are fairly limited in their anime knowledge had a ball too.

PS: As a personal suggestion from an editor, I'd love to see the FMV contest be moved into the Main Video room instead of having it split right next to each other.

Well, on Thursday I ended up being in the pre-reg line 'till 11 pm, and yesterday I was watching stuff 'till late. Same will go for next couple of days, too, so it looks like meeting from my end won't be happening... perhaps next year!

If there's people meeting up later on Friday I might go as well, but as it stands I'm either in the speed-dating or (and what I'd be sad if I missed) I'd be going to the awesome bad jmusic videos panel, both which start at 8 and going 'till 9:30-10.

Uh oh.

There's a bunch of stuff Sunday night lasting into Monday morning I wanna watch.

I might be in trouble here >_<

I just watched the first episode of Angel Beats! I am so hooked.

I never done the whole 3 in the morning this but I want to this year. I always had a facination with 3 in the mornig or like what people were doing at places that stayed open all night like Walmart. I hae alway been facinated by that.

That is one thing I want to do most!
Heh, the Anime I used for my AMV (which is getting shown during the con!) is actually Angel Beats :D

As for the 3am wanderings, I did that a few years ago where I spent the entire night at the con just hopping in and out of the video rooms. Was pretty fun, though by the morning I was dead tired and falling asleep while watching Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, so I'm not sure if I'm going to do that again. We'll see though.

As I said before, most likely the group will split into several pieces of people going to various places :P

San Jose doesn't seem to really have a large Chinese center for good dim sum places >.>

Also, I, too, signed up for speed dating, though only for Friday night's, person I'm attending the con with is dragging me there ;)

Are there even any decent sushi bars around downtown? Actually curious as I haven't managed to track one down yet.

Also, for people who want to keep their costs down, shushi bar maaaaay not be the way to go :D

I kinda get the feeling that people will split off into groups kindof based on where they want to go for foods, so we might just end up with... sub-groups, I guess you could say?

From experience, I can honestly say that it's hard to get people to commit to one place or another even if they're adamant about making it there, so probably the best plan is to just see who shows up and where folks want to go without worrying too much about a reservation-y place.

omg! i dunno why i havent thought of this before! Lets go to San Pedro Square Market. I think that's what the building is called. But inside its similar to like a food court, only the food is way better than food court foods! There's tons of different types of food to choose in there and it's open seating as well! There's also a few bars in there for the people who'd like to drink ;)

I hope there's something for everyone there! :)
Just as a note, since you brought it up to begin with, San Pedro Square is farther than Flames. I mean, both are 3-5 blocks so "far" is kindof an overstatement, but if distance is an issue for Flames it would probably be an issue for San Pedro, too ;)

There's also Flames or Johnny Rocket's if folks feel like spending a buck or two extra for a sit down place ;)

Mine didn't make it in :(  It must have been really bad since it was in comedy and there were so few entries. Oh well, there's always next year.

If anyone wants to see what not to do (lol) you can watch my video here: http://youtu.be/BrBjbuudV-o

Good luck to all of you who made it in the competition! :)

Well, probably not my place to judge, but I personally didn't think it was really comedic, and there was probably also too much non-anime footage in the video.

But that's ok, you'll get 'em next year!

Playing games to pass the time is nott a good idea!!! I just stayed up all night playing random games now I'm functioning on 3 hours of sleep and 3 espresso shots with a 15 hour busy day ahead of meeee >.< I feel like I'm gonna die tonight!

Btw I wonder if the servers for d3 is crashing cause I know eu had issues with it. I'm thinking bout playing Tera instead :)
I played for a couple of hours last night, so I'm burning on... 4 hours of sleep? It's totally enough!

And as far as I know after the first couple of hours last night the servers are working fine. Have some friends at 20+ levels now :P

Whooaaaaaa that's nuts! My friend bought a dlable one because his best buy canceled their midnight release. So now he has both -_- man some people are verryyyy excited about this game to say the least :)
Well, it's a pretty fun game that's been like... 12 years coming :D
