General Convention Discussion / Any Information

Does anyone know any other information about An Cafe performing at Fanime?

All I've been able to dig up is a date...

I'm planning on Edward Elric. My boyfriend's thinking about being Hughes and I have a friend that's thinking about being Alphonse Elric for Fanime 2007.

Ohhhhhhhhhh... Thanks for the resource.

I was trying to get alot of different ideas from different people and see which of them would work. I'll try there.

Quote from: "Rette"This guy just randomly walked up to me and my friend about 3 times a day (almost everyday) and asked for a hug.

Was he wearing, like, a light blue sweater or something on some of those days? 'Cause if it was, he did that to me too. =/ It was kinda gross on Monday, though, 'cause he didn't look like he changed or anything... XP

Yeah, he was wearing a teal sweater. I don't mind being asked for a hug, but after I said no 3 times, it got a little annoying.  My friends and I had to avoid him for the rest of the con.

He got me twice in the same day within 30 minutes of each time. I told him that I already hugged him and he pouted when I mentioned it.

I was wondering if any of you out there would know a good and relatively inexpensive way of being able to recreate Alphonse Elric's costume (FMA series, not Conqueror of Shamballa)?

Any assistanace that could be offered would be great. Thanks!

Nuts, we're only at 3. Well, I'm sure I'll see it (hopefully) with enough time to figure it out. Thanks for the help. This is my first time with planning and doing cosplay.

Hmm... Good point. Otherwise I think I would be SOL. Maybe I should have taken those fashion design classes when I was at art achool.;)

I'll have to take another look at Heihachi's outfit. I think we might actually have the sketch in one of the Samurai 7 DVDs that we own.

Awesome. Thanks. I didn't think about wrapping myself after putting on the sports bra. I'm at D so I definitely feel the same pain. I'll remember that.

Now, if only to find a pic or pattern to make the costume (I don't know how to make patterns).:(

I have... But the advice I got doesn't really help with being a little on the top heavy side.

There's the sport's bra way (minimizes but doesn't get rid of it entirely). I think someone suggested bondage tape. I have a sneaking suspicion that it would have the similar effect as a sports bra... and would be really sweaty since it's mostly made out of PVC.

But maybe I'll give crossplaying Heihachi a try.:)

I hope that you can try either of those out and see how it works for you.

To break up seriousness and give a little bit of humour:

But... but... I like feeding the trolls... I don't really need that arm, right?

Quote from: "kam_islash"Rap fan, guro fan, sadist, sociopath, rapist, theyre all the same to me.

I have to agree tho that the rap thing was outta place seeming at the con but that's a lil extreme to say here. I know a lot of people who are anime fans and rap fans. To compare rap fans to sadists and rapists and the like is just rude and prejudice. Please be respectful and considerate of others here on the boards.

I agree, that is uncalled for. And there is a ceratin amount of etiquette that is used on anything that's social. And while I'm not a big fan of Hip Hop or Rap, I think you're statement, kam_islash, is unnecessary. It is a legitimate artform like any other. Sure, there are some bad apples, but stereotyping should not be OK. Not to mention, it's not like Hip Hop isn't getting Anime acceptance, take Samurai Champloo for instance.

Kitsune Oniko, sorry to hear that you got slammed with a lot of cancelations. Better luck to you next year!

Dealers Room / Cheaper or more expensive?
June 02, 2006, 02:39:06 PM
Well, I said I'm not sure if it's just that one place. It was the only place that I saw that had art books... And it might just be for the CLAMP stuff. *shrugs* I don't know. I think that the live action DVDs that I picked up were fairly inexpensive.

Quotei found that art books are cheaper at FanimeCon. but i may be wrong

Actually I saw that one of the vendors (I don't remember which one) was selling two CLAMP X:1999 art books for $41 a piece. I found the same books at Kinokuniya (? on spelling) Bookstore in San Francisco for $31. It could be just that instance (namely because I'd been lusting after them for a while and wanted to pick them up for cheaper).

edited for typos... curse being anal about grammar

I know that there are a lot of laws dealing with actual weapons (steel, not  PVC or what have you). Even at Ren. Faire you'd have to have your blade peace bound. So, fighting would be out of the question. I think, legally, the only way you could fight with steel would be if it was a part of a demonstration (I think, I'm not 100% sure of this). Even the SCA can not fight with live weapons. So, I hope that helps for the why when it comes to steel.

But as for fake weapon fights, I'm all for it. That would be fun.:)

And for anyone who can not afford a hotel room to shower in, two words: baby wipes. It may sound silly but they've been used in places where showers were simply not an option.

I was also thinking of doing one of the ladies from Samurai 7 also.

I would do Heihachi, but I know that I can't pull off a guy very well;).

I'd like to do Helena from DOA 3, 1st costume, black variation (hit X when selecting the costume) but I can't find any decent reference pictures.
