hello! this might have been asked already but i hope you guys can help me!

what papers/forms are we supposed to bring to the door when we check in? is it just our badge and seller's permit?

Hrm.. I am in the same boat, really. But I recall last year, they had additional contracts? Not too sure if that will happen this time around.

What happens if you don't have or lost the copy of the AA contract, can you still check in? I thought that I have to check in with just the seller's permit and the badge.

Alright i wanted to know the table sizes..

I looked at the notes that said

Hmmm...I'm confused.....Why does this person say the seating chart has been removed?  It's still in effect, right?

Don't worry.. it was probably so that people wouldn't see the seating chart itself. Plus, they may feel that it somehow gives away personal information that they would prefer to not have distributed. The chart should still be in effect. :)

And As far as I know, some colleges have small anime/video game clubs in the Sacramento area. I've heard tell of one 'club' but it has all but dwindled out. Davis I think has a club...
But none right in Sacramento that I know of right now.. D:

Just to point out.. it has never come up in the hotels that I have stayed at in which you will incur a charge for requesting a roll-away bed for your room (Staying at the Hilton or the Marriott for Fanime.. this as a charge has never been applied/come up. Neither has the request for a fridge at the Marriott, or a microwave at the Hilton).
Any additional charges are also a requirement for them to inform you that there will be a charge. Just be careful, because the charges will not come in a separate bill, they will just be added to the entire room bill.
As an Example: Parking at the Marriot or the Hilton costs 'about' $20/day and you have 3 cars there for three nights, you will see an additional $180 charged specifically to the room.

I second how to handle the sales tax that Aya Brea X mentioned.

I normally just round to the nearest quarter, or flat dollar in some cases. As long as you keep a record of your sales, it will be easy to figure it all out. As a money management thing, at the end of each day, I figure out how much the sales tax I owe was that day and completely set that money aside. :x It's very helpful for when your taxes ARE due, that you set the money aside and didn't accidentally spend it on you.. well.. you know . . pocky... or in my case Tomato Pretz... *cough*

Opening Time on Friday?
So.. the Artist Alley will really be opening at 1pm on Friday? I mean.. the website says 12pm on Friday, but if registration for your table opens then.. there will be a huge conflict.
Or are people who got a table OK, go in earlier to set-up and that is just for people on the waitlist?
I don't know about anyone else, but it would be impossible for me to set-up in less than a minute. :x

Also.. someone should probably inform the Web Admin, that they lost their stylesheet on the Fanime AA page with the last announcement...

I am not having any problems with Artist Alley...

Just haven't printed any business cards. D: Bah.. so don't want to go through Kinkos because seriously... They eff your stuff up.

Normally, the day of, you head over to the Artist Alley BEFORE it opens. If there are staff people there, let them know you are an artist and they'll normally just let you in. From there, you'll locate the main table where the AA Staff are (There will usually be a line).
What you will have to do is head over to the line and 'Check-In'.
My experience of the process is, if you haven't paid yet, give them your money.. Be sure to have your seller's permit with you just in case, and any papers you still have to show them. They will normally scan in your seller's permit (Just in case a gov't official shows up and wants proof that everyone has a permit. It is easier for them to give a file than both all the artists one by one).
They will give you a name placard that is your name/artist groups name, and from THERE direct you to your table.

The check-in process only has to be done once - the first day you are selling your art. So don't worry about the other days, just go in and set-up your table stuff.

mer.. I just think that ASAP is far too ambiguous of a term. As Soon As Possible for us, might not be for them. We are not sure what else they are trying to get together. They may be in the back end trying to get as many tables as possible, or figure out a better table layout or something.  I wouldn't say they are not doing a good job, or anything though. They may just be behind. I'm as frustrated as the next artist...It would just be nice for them to come in and say as to what is holding them up, other than being busy or 'behind', ya know? As in.. what is making them behind? A lot of registrations, another department giving a final ok? What?

I would be interested to know as to whom has received the seating chart, and if the 10 aforementioned tables are the official artists for Fanime. if that is the case, it would make sense that they have tables set-up for them first.

However, the answer seems to have still been danced around/or ignored as to individuals that purchased their tables AT CONVENTION last year in regards to when we will be receiving the seat list and it seems no confirmation (I can not remember if they said we would be, or if our receipt of payment is sort of our confirmation). I would be extremely disappointed if the papers are buried below others that have recently registered after the convention and that promise of receiving the seating chart first was not kept...
Really, it seems like we are just as much in the dark as the people still waiting to know if they are accepted.

A bit more light of an update would be really appreciated, coordinators, as to the ETA and the progress made for Artist Alley other than 'soon' or 'ASAP'. Since nothing has been posted here, the LJ account or the Myspace account.

We have good news!
As most of you have already said some e-mails were sent out about soon to be sent confirmation e-mails.
One of our staff members became ill recently and the task is being re-distributed to other staff members currently. We hope to have it sorted out and confirmation e-mails sent out very soon.
More good news, tables will most likely be available for picking in the confirmation e-mail.
So be sure to check your e-mails. <3

So to make sure.. those of us who signed-up last convention will be receiving a confirmation e-mail as well if the table layout will be in the email?

I got an e-mail a couple of days ago telling me a confirmation will come soon, but not the confirmation itself. ;_;

I got an email saying that those who registered at the con will have the map soon, but no specific time. :) At least we know the ball is rolling~

And I have started things, but no where near as much as I would like. X_x Yeah... I can see myself madly putting buttons together before the convention...

My Figurines are created out of my own style (no help XP) of current Anime Characters.

I don't really mass produce them (The most was like.. 15 Chibi Death of AerithxSephiroth..I was young and foolish. Will not be doing THAT again.).
But they are all hand-made and do not use any molds. Also, since it is in my own style, I am not using any kits, or pre-existing models that I am basing it off of, just images of characters to capture their likeness.

I was never asked last year about not being in the dealers room though... but it is probably because they are not mass-produced, plus they are still hand crafted items. So I am not entirely sure. I do not recall seeing any crafters IN the dealer's room last year - just actual companies. However, there are a few conventions that I know of (ex: AWA) that have started to break-up their Artist Alley by print and drawing vs. hand crafted items.
Honestly, I think that is a WONDERFUL idea...

But I digress.. It might be because there are a lot of companies that actually sell Keyblades for cosplay? And honestly, if your craftmanship is really up to snuff on it, I would suggest you do compete in the dealer's room because you will most likely (by a purely sales perspective) appeal to more people much faster and potentially create more sales for yourself.
As for Copyright problems.. I would have to look into it more to give a really solid answer. But if they are mass produced and you are claiming the original idea as your own, then it runs into copyright problems.

Runewitt - People seem to really like the series Bleach, so I will most likely be looking into it, doing some research and having chibis for sale of the series. :D And definitely a yes on Rei.

gazerock.is.not.dead - I've never heard of Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, but I am a sucker for things I have never heard of before.. so I will definitely check it out. ^-^

bahamutknightzero - I Looooove making things of characters that don't have a lot of merchandise. But sometimes the characters aren't nearly as popular, when I personally think they are (I made Freya figurines from FF9 for example last year and they were totally passed over by people for the Vivis instead). But if there is a particular character you are interested in.. I tend to take at-con commissions. And I generally accept 3~4 commissions on Friday and Saturday, more or less because they do take a while.

IshokuOsero- I am actually currently working on Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei figurines for Fanime, and the Lucky Star are on the list for this month to be made~ I haven't seen Nana just yet, but I'll definitely look into it!



Anyone who is interested.. I did sell mini-figurines last year and I love all the support that I got! This year, there will be a MUCH larger variety, but I will only have 1 or 2 figurines of each character - both slightly different as in uniform, attire, holding, or doing something different - this is so that each one is truly unique. :3 Please look at my deviantArt page (in the sig) in the future months to see the chibis that will be for sale. :D

First off.. who is the 'average American' and... why are you quoting social history from a time period you didn't live through? Let's get the facts straight before trying to point out the mentality of a period we were not alive for...
I am pretty sure you are mixing up your post-war eras... After WWII, the middle class that we know today was created, partially from the wealth that America was receiving from other countries and the GI Bill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GI_Bill). With Western Europe's infrastructure destroyed, they needed material to rebuild, they also needed money to buy the material. America, a place where the battle was not fought on, supplied money for Europe to buy American goods. This lead to an economical boom (See: Marshall Plan.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Plan).
Also, For your knowledge, no one was drafted in WWII.

Now, I can agree.. there was a boom for entertainment. Because of the economical boom and also because of the increase of technology, but not because they were trying to keep themselves happy, but because the quality of life improved and people actually had MONEY to spend.
The baby boom also, wasn't about having sex with anyone they could, and it is really offensive to even think so.

Now, as for actual cartoons being looked on as more childish, it could be say that it was really the baby boom that ignited this. You have younger children, the integration of the television into the family home, and just simply... the market to sell to. Since the first largest market in America was really towards children, I guess you could say it just stuck...

So are you saying that because of World War II, the US becoming the super power that lent all the other countries money to help rebuild their countries by purchasing American steel and the likes, did not create an economic boom that was prevalent in helping almost every single American become middle class?
Or are you trying to say that the US was in such a dire economic crunch because the continuation of war production, brought on about the Cold War and the expansion of US military power, in fact made life harder for the American person, and the GI bill did not aid Americans in the creation of an attainable middle class stature?
