Okay so it looks like a Marvel gathering hasn't been set up yet and considering that this year is a pretty big year (ahem, Infinity War anybody?), it would be a travesty NOT to have some sort of Marvel presence at Fanime 2018. I've learned a lot last year from hosting my first gathering (shoutout to Fanime staff for being extremely helpful!) so I'm hoping to return this year and make it bigger and better!

The hiatus is long and full of terrors! With the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones not premiering until 2019, I think it would be cool to host a gathering to make the wait a bit more bearable.

I've yet to hear back from the person organizing the Fanime gatherings but after looking at the gathering schedule, I think the tentative date and time would be Sunday, May 28 at 10am. Please follow the FB page or this post for any updates and please share it with your friends!

Hello everyone! I know this is extremely last minute but I had a few people drop out of our room so I'm hoping to compensate and find new roommates here.

HOTEL INFORMATION:
- suite at the Fairmont reserved from Friday-Monday
- will be sharing the room with 8 other people
- only one king-sized bed and sofa available which people will probably rotate each night
- there will be a lot of floor space for costumes and props as well as sleeping bags if you decide to sleep on the floor
- cost for the whole weekend will be $80

ROOMMATE INFORMATION:
- majority of us are third year UCSC students
- we do drink however we do not go crazy. Rules can be established for this if need be.

Hello everyone! I'm interested in creating an info panel about the con scene here in California for people who are unfamiliar with conventions and in which Fanime is their first con. If anybody is interested, I would like to have 3-4 panelists with various con experiences throughout California (whether it be just an attendee, a staff member, cosplayer, artist etc.) We can also have each panelist specialize in a certain California con as well and present their own information on their experiences.

For the sake of time, this panel will cover 4 California conventions based on location and popularity which include:

NorCal:
Sacanime
Animation on Display or Kraken Con (whichever is larger and more popular we'll cover)

SoCal:
Anime Expo
San Diego Comic-Con - I'll cover this one 

If there any other cons out there that's worth mentioning, let me know. I think it will be a great way for newbies to the con scene know about other other opportunities throughout the year to nerd out and meet people. If interested, please reply to this post. Also privately message me the list of cons you've been to, whether you go to cons to be at artist alley, cosplay, or volunteer/staff, and which con(s) you're interested in presenting. I will update the above list of cons on who is presenting what once I determine the panelists. I hope to make this panel a reality and hopefully I'll see you all there!

Just curious as to why Fanime is opening its hotel registration early.

Usually large cons don't open hotel registration until 3-4 months before the actual con. Even Comic-Con doesn't open its hotel registration until March or April. Do the hotels in San Jose want registration to happen already so they can accommodate the numbers?

I would also agree with splitting it into separate Marvel and DC gatherings, whether or not they're on the same day.

Location-wise, might I suggest we take it off-site? The park is large enough to comfortably hold even the largest of gatherings.

At any rate, I still had fun seeing everyone and meeting a nice amount of SHIELD agents. I'm glad my Coulson cosplay went over as well as it did, and if anyone has any pictures of it, please let me know.

Would anybody be interested in a Wholock crossover panel for Fanime 2013?

We will discuss how the BBC has driven its viewers into madness with Doctor Who and Sherlock and how the current fandoms are coping with the recent departure of the Ponds as well as Sherlock's long hiatus.

We will also have a Q&A session with characters from both series!

I'll be there as Lestrade!!! Also you should probably add Supernatural to the list (even though it's not part of BBC but Superwholock is a big thing in general) because Supernatural cosplayers had a great presence in the gathering last year.
