I decided to be more active this time around and play sax, dance all over the place, and generally be more social. It has resulted in my best con experience yet.

You were awesome on that sax dude. It made the con more interesting.

Ideas and Suggestions / Battle of the Bands
May 28, 2012, 08:04:44 PM
I am sure this has been brought up before, but I would love to see a battle of the bands event here the same way AX does theirs. It would be a great addition to the musical acts you guys bring to Fanime, and you can never have too much good music. This might something to consider for next year.

Fanime was fun once again this year, but even though I've only gone three years, this was the worst year so far. Obviously there were registration issues. I think everyone is aware of this, and I anticipate that next year there will be solutions implemented.

My main disappointment was with guests. Guests aren't the only reason I go to cons, but they are a huge part of my experience. Obviously the guests are a subjective thing and not everyone will know them/like them/care. However, MusicFest is something I've always looked forward to, and this year was a let down. Between posting guests late, the short guest list, and MusicFest guests that were, imo, a step down from last years powerhouse show of Yuya and FLOW, it was just disappointing. Again, it's subjective, but as I've stated in another thread before the con, with the number of people who now go to Fanime, I expected a higher level of con, and I just didn't see that.

This goes into my overall experience. I understand this is a fan con run by fans, but it also feels like a fan con, both in the good and bad way. I still don't get the feeling that Fanime has embraced it's newfound size, and the problems certainly show. I did say the guests were my main disappointment, but this is somewhat coupled with that. I like Fanime. I've enjoyed it, even this year. I had a lot of fun and can't wait for next year. But I really want to see Fanime step up to the level of other major cons. Everyone who works there does a good job trying to keep things running and create a fantastic event, but parts feel disorganized and, again, it doesn't feel like Fanime has quite gotten to that level of con that it now is.

To sum it up, my feedback is that I like the personal, small con feel, but want to see a big con presentation. Smooth registration and badge pick up, a lot more organization, and bigger guests. Cause if a big name like FLOW can come two years in a row, then I have faith Fanime can get someone else equally as big.

So, question in regards to seating. I am planning to bring a group of people. How many are allowed to come in with me for the early seating? I don't know the exact number of people coming to the AMV screenings yet, but I would like to have an idea of how many people I can bring with me and how many will have to wait.

Big Event Showcase / Re: Igaguri Chiba
May 11, 2012, 12:46:27 PM
Chiba. If Nightmare was performing, Fanime would have announced it.

I guess I am also curious about the meet and greet. Is this something that is just for the AMV creators? Or is this something that is open to all Fanime guests? I guess I am more curious as to what the meet and greet is. You did mention that is is more to just chat and mingle, but between just the creators or between the creators and the rest of Fanime?

Omg, I made it in! Thank you so much Famine. This completely makes my con!

Did notices go out today?

Time to get nervous  :o

Maybe Igagura can talk to his brother ;) It would be cool to see Nightmare. And then have them and Igagura perform together.

Yay, finally. No idea who this guy is, but from what I've seen, it should be a fun, crazy time.

So I guess not many people submit just for exhibition? I am also curious now as to how many AMV's will be shown in competition. Will you guys show more AMV's in the categories with more submissions? Or is there an even spread between each category. Either way, I can't complain about the lower number of submissions, just means my chances are better. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Quote from: cutiebunny on May 02, 2012, 05:12:26 PMSo what you're saying that, instead of shikishi this year, I should bring fruit to pummel the guest relation staff with.  Gotcha  ;)
I would say "yes" but that means that they would be getting free food, so no. :)

Just bring the fruits that no one likes, like grapefruit. No one likes grapefruit.

Thank you very much MPLe for the update. It is appreciated ;D

Yes, the only panel at Fanime I need! This was awesome last year. Looking forward to it again.

Perhaps I sounded as if I am entirely relying on musicfest guests to enjoy Fanime. I'm not. I am going to for several reasons, not the least of which is that Fanime is a bit of a tradition and that I am local. But I would lie if I said the guests weren't important to me. I still have faith in Fanime, sure, but it's disheartening to see all these other cons around the same time get their guests, and big name guests I might add, and still have almost nothing from Fanime. And to keep hearing soon, and yet get nothing, it feels like a big tease. As I have stated previously in another thread, Fanime is a big con and that comes with big expectations. These kinds of things lower those expectations, and that isn't something I want to have with Fanime.

I know you guys working the con are waiting till everything is finalized, and you keep teasing us, but throw us a bone here. We've been waiting patiently for announcements, but it's under a month now. How are things not finalized and there's less than a month when several other cons not only have more guests, but guests that are big names. Animazement has Kotoko coming, and Fanime's musicfest performers have yet to be announced. So, for the fans that are waiting patiently, could we get something? A hint? Some reassurances that there's a big musicfest name coming? Heck, even confirmation that May'n will actually be at her panel would be nice.

Video Programming / Re: 2012 FMV Contest Updates!

Will each show have different AMV's being shown, or are both shows showing the same AMV's?

Live Programming and Events / Re: Hideo Concert
April 24, 2012, 07:06:22 PM
MusicFest has been in the Civic Auditorium when I've gone to Fanime. Hideo was there last time for the Masquerade. I think they did a small part of their show before the Masquerade actually began, but I would certainly love to see them do the entire Hideo show at Fanime. That would be pretty amazing.
