Totally did not see this thread..ha ha. But I will be attending this gathering. Though, I don't know who I would cosplay as. I'll come as either Agito, Ume, or Kururu (blond hair kururu XD).
Yay! ;3;

We don't know yet. Panels department is still figuring out time, date, and location and I will post that as soon as they deliver it to us.

The panel will be at Fanime...the only reason for the SoCal part is because it was originally founded in SoCal but we're expanding to all parts of Cali. I hope to see you at the panel!

Well there are already websites dedicated to helping you out with your problem
http://www.entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html is an example of such a site.
For most armor building is revolved around using craft foam and/or polystyrene sheets. But of course a lot of the websites for prop armor making are suggestions you can do to go about it. Also keep in mind some methods may not be for you either in terms of resource gathering or usage of tools. So experiment with it and see what works for you.
In my case I built my first armor using a wire frame base. Although it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped it is still a developing skill in progress.
