Hi everyone,
I did pull a few entries after going through them because people had not followed the rules.
Here's the final list (no waiting list! everyone is in):
https://www.anime-online.com/fanime-cosplay/list.php
I'm officialy going "e-mail and forums" silent at this point as far as Masquerade goes. We'll see you at the convention!
Make sure you check on on Friday or Saturday :)
Thanks!
Marisa
For those of you using video:
The two screens are hung from the rafters on either side of the stage.
They are widescreen (16:9) and do HD natively. They are also really
big. They do not interfere with the action on stage. Videos can be
played via a computer or DVD player.
Stage Questions:
(you are looking at the stage from the audience perspective)
You will be entering Stage Left, and exiting Stage Right.
Please adjust accordingly!
Marisa :)If you need to check your assigned judging time, you can still log in and see it:
https://www.anime-online.com/fanime-cosplay/
I've had a few groups drop out, please check here for where you are on the Waiting List:
https://www.anime-online.com/fanime-cosplay/list.php
I'm *only* answering e-mails if it involves dropping out of the Masquerade or really important questions. The rest can wait until the convention at this point. Thanks :) (I have a ton to do! Thanks for understanding).
Please note I updated the Masquerade Timeline!
Minor changes on the whole, but we *did* move up the Masquerade Rehearsal from 1pm - 4pm.Please review the changes here:
http://www.fanime.com/cosplay/#0.5_Masquerade_Timeline
ALL updates, including when the web site data is posted, will be listed here in this very post. Please look to this post for udpates!
Weapons Policy questions should be directed to
[email protected], not to me.
Thanks everyone!

LOL. You should have heard how disappointed the audience was when you all were not there to pick up your award. :)
Speaking of updates, any ETA on when the full results will be posted? I'd love to know who all got what (I had a hard time keeping track and it was a little hard to hear, especially earlier on).
Thank you SO much for everything, by the way....you and yours were awesome sauce!

Yus! I will do this tonight. I'm sorry, I pretty much slept all of Monday and yesterday was a heck day at work. I will post it tonight, I promise. Thanks!

for example black rock shooter. would that be allowed on stage? short shorts & bikini top w/ open jacket
I understand that registration begins in April of next year,
but is it possible for those that don't pre-register for Fanime to register for the Masquerade?
Because my skit/cosplay group and I can only make one con day, I believe (so we'd buy Fanime tickets the day of).
I don't see any confirmation in the forums or on the Fanime site, so I was wondering if it's safe to assume the masquerade will be held on Saturday as it has been for the last few years.

I would assume so too. It's like that with every con that I've been to and it works best with people's schedules if it's on the Saturday.
I'm not sure if this has been asked already but how do we sign up for the "catwalk" portion in the beginning? not the skit, but where we would just walk up then leave? do we sign up for that the same time that masquerade sign ups are happening?
thanks =]

Yep, same time. You MUST be judged for Crafsmanship if you want to do this though! :)
Will the dimensions of the stage (preferably also the lighted portion) be made available before the con? That would help a bit with arranging our blocking. Otherwise we'll definitely be attending the rehearsal, but I would assume we're not supposed to use too much time there.

Yes, it was in my initial files, but the file I had was pre-construction on the Civic. A new PDF should be posted soon. However, it's a standard stage. I believe it is 50' W x 30' D but that may not be completely accurate, I'm not sure if that includes the stage wings and such. That's basically the Proscenium Opening visible to the audience.

If I'm remembering correctly from last year, though, only a portion of that was actually lit. Are those dimensions something you arrange beforehand, or only when the con actually has the stage?

I cannot have that information for you in advance, I apologize. However, it's standard practice to only have a portion of the stage lit. You just need to make sure you reduce the area you are performing in. It's generally the front half of the stage.

He was joking. It's more than fine. As long as you aren't, ah, "showing anything non-PG" and nothing pops out of your costume (think Janet Jackson), you are good to go :)

how do I do that, is it a preliminary type of thing before I can sign up?
Hi all,
As far as the schedule of the Masquerade goes, that is not my decision. It's the result of all kinds of negotiations with the senior staff, the Civic, the other performances, and the union. There's going to be an official announcement on behalf of the convention somtime soon, but this is actually a restoration of how it was .. 3 years ago? The Saturday event schedule was actually a new (and apparently temporary) change the past couple years, and we are going back to the original schedule.
I'm sorry for those it will inconvienence, and happy for those it will help out (a lot of people had trouble getting judged / registered on Friday due to work obligations). It's just a change and hopefully it will work out for the best! :)

soooo the cosplay spectacular is not the same as the walk ons? For a cosplay group, we need to all submit pictures to the judges of our costumes? Do I only need to register for a time frame for judging before the masquerade?
also, it says you have to make your own costume--one of the cosplayers in my group is a suit, is that allowed?

Please read the rules, it's all explained there:
http://www.fanime.com/cosplay/#masquerade
For example:
» All Craftsmanship judging participants must also be approved entries for Cosplay Spectacular and must participate (with a presentation or a walk-on) in Cosplay Spectacular on Sunday, May 29, 2011.
» All Craftsmanship Judging occurs prior to Cosplay Spectacular itself. Details on times & locations for Craftsmanship Judging are provided on the Cosplay Spectacular Timeline.
» We STRONGLY DISCOURAGE walk-ons and display-only entries . FanimeCon has always been known for its amazing performances. A walk-on is when you walk on the stage, pose, and walk off the stage. Please try to come up with some sort of minimal performance, at the very least several poses. Dialogue is not required. If you insist on being a walk-on, we are going to have a "fashion show" type segment where all walk-ons will be clustered together one after another to some pre-selected music montage.

This would fall under:
Exception 1: "Found Item" costumes are allowed. This is basically a costume that was built by collecting various appropriate pieces from normal clothing stores and combining them together in a unique way (with or without sewing) to make a costume.

Multiple entries worn by the same person, or one entry worn by multiple people at different times, will not be allowed. No exceptions.
Ok last year was the first time I ever went to a con and I loved it! This year I'm going with a bit more experience.
One thing I missed out on last year was the Masquerade skits, I am hell bent on going this year.
So I need to ask the following:
Do the seats fill up fast? As in, in pass years have people been turned away because the room was too full?
How early is recommended to go to get a great seat? I know seating starts at 6, what time is genuine to start heading over?
Wow, I wish I knew the answer to this, but this probably isn't the best place to ask -- I've never really been involved with the lines at all because we are running the event. The only thing I have to do with the lines is telling the theater staff to open the doors at a certain time to start seating.
This thread is more for questions for those who are going to be participating in the event (doing a performance) so you might find out more information posting a general thread.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help :) We hope you enjoy the show!

Dimmed down = no problem.
Different color = maybe.
Sometimes they have gels (for changing color) and sometimes they don't. It's not something I will be able to tell you in advance.
We can promise we can do fade in / fade out, start black / end black, but that's about it.
Sorry!

Unfortunately, there's *absolutely nothing* I can personally do about the date/time of the Masquerade. I have 0 influence in this matter.

Yes, you are welcome to use video. You *need* to submit it as soon as possible at the convention, so we can test it out to make sure it will work (and we need to rebalance video, etc.).
As far as format, we can support most standard formats. You might want to be safe and have it in a couple of "traditional" types.
Thanks :)

Not sure of that either. I would say "plan for it not working, and if it does... yay!"
Also, if you want this kind of stuff, note it in your lighting requests and you *must* come to rehearsal.

As long as you follow the following guidelines, it's fine:
• If you have a large prop such as huge wings, huge backgrounds, or other huge props, you MUST show up at the Rehearsal to drop them off and make arrangements with the stage manager, or you WILL NOT be allowed to bring them onstage.
» All large props (including scenery, backgrounds, etc.) must be easy to assemble and disassemble. Immediately after your performance, you must tear down anything that cannot be removed from the theater as a whole unit at the end of the Masquerade. All
large props or complicated setups *must* be declared in advance (in detail) in your Registration Database entry.» At the end of the Masquerade, all items need to be removed from backstage during the awards ceremony. If you need to add an additional stage ninja to your group to perform this task, let me know in advance.
» Any large props (such as backgrounds and scenery) must be pre-approved by the Masquerade Coordinator (
[email protected]).

Yay! Thank you :)
Okay Marisa, I have a couple of questions, and you'll have to excuse me if these are in the rules and I just didn't see them, but I've read through the whole set a few times and couldn't seem to find the info.
First of all, once we register for the Masq, can we add/subtract/replace people as long as they register for the con and we let you know? One of our girls has asked for the time off but doesn't know if she is going to get it yet, but we would still like to register for a spot in case she does. That will be alright correct?
Second question is just double-checking that everyone in the group does not have to be pre-registered for the con, just has to have a badge by the time we check-in.
Last question is about the video rules; we're doing an anime that is historically based and we would like to make a joke about how one of the characters looks NOTHING like the actual person they are supposed to be. Is it alright if we have an image of a painting of the real person to reference how off the anime character design is?
Thank you so much for all of your hard work!

Yes, you basically register for the Masquerade (on 4/1/11 @ 11:59pm). You need to register at least one person at that time.
Because you have a username/password, you can log back in and change stuff until 5/16/11 (@ 11:59pm). You can add up to 11 more people to your skit (12 total) and even change what it's about, but it gets locked down to "set" on 5/16. After that point you can make small changes at the convention (such as people not being in your skit) but we need to know the series and the content of your skit by 5/16 and that can't change. This is basically so people don't register to do "Black Butler" then show up as Dora the Explorer (not allowed) instead.
Quote

This is correct. It's because we nee to slap a sticker on the back of the badge to show you are in the Masquerade. So, no badge, no sticker. But you can get an at-con pass, even a day-pass, I don't care. You just need a badge so we can put the sticker on it.

This shouldn't be a problem.
The reason why I'm being a little bit stressed about this is because if someone puts up something like ... a clip from Scott Pilgrim, or Enchanted, or some other "American" movie... we'll get sued.
So, I'm trying to ensure that we don't get sued ^_^;;
I also don't want people putting up videos of people not involved in their skit, because we could run into issues of "using my face without permission".
Anime companies have been tolerant of AMVs and such, so we are trying to stick within those accepted guidelines.
However, I know that some people like to do a video of themselves (or their group) in costume for the video performance. That's perfectly OK! We'll just have one extra form for you to sign when you check in.
Thanks :D
Marisa
Thank you so much for the clarifications. <3 I totally understand the thinking on the video and that is probably the best way to go. Being sued is never fun. Looking forward to registering in two weeks!
Are the entrance and exit directions going to be the same as last year? Namely, enter from stage left and exit from stage right (we have no big props to store but two fairly large dress costumes that we'd like to plan ahead for if possible).

I desperately want the entrance to be on the *opposite* side this year, but we will see -_- we had quite a few issues with the line control and that awful hallway. We need to go to the theater and see all the changes, so I won't have a response for this untill much closer to the convention.
Is there any more information about the At-Con limited services for pre-recording and mixing?
And is it possible to change costumes (or something more comfortable) after the skit/performance is over (after the "Photo Area")? I ask because I plan to be in something doesn't breath very well and it becomes hot/humid VERY quickly.

Part 1:
Our sound guy has a laptop and a mic. He can help you record some limited stuff. Not any more high-tech than you can do at home. Also, you usually have background noise problems because of the convention - we don't have a quiet room for recording. Honestly, it's only for people who are *desperate* and have no other way to do it on their own. We don't suggest it if you can record it in advance at home, or in your hotel room at the convention.
Part 2:
Absolutely :) We don't want you to suffer. Also, please note in your registration about your costume and we'll make sure your group goes early.

Oh, I really hope it's on the other side, too. Lining up in that hallway was pretty awkward. My group'll have a couple tricky costumes and a large prop, so we'd definitely prefer to enter from the side with all the room :)

My friend and I will probably try to sign up at the same time to help us get a spot and I was wondering what would happen if the "same group" is registered twice. Would the system correct it and just keep the first one that registered?
Are we still allowed two stage ninjas?
ahhh...my brain...sooo jumpy right now lol

Is today right? where is the link? =/
im freaking out >.<
yah its today- they had some tech issues last year, but I would bet on waiting around 40 minutes maybe at the most? Just in case? but hopefully they just have to press send right now :) dont freak out ^_^ lots of us are here and we are patient yes? LOL
I hope they don't take that long, I just got off from work and want to go home!!! >_<
It takes me 45 minutes to get home, the list maybe full by then

Ugh and I just want to go sleep....why do they want to open sign ups at midnight anyways? And NOT ON TIME?
agreed. i have work in 5 hrs. i need sleep!
Agreed I'm so sleepy but I must register ;__;
-_- zzzzzz.... must... stay... awake.. Help me sailor moon!
Forum's clock is showing 11:34 - lol, I wonder if they go by that....which would suck because I am seriously considering just going to sleep.
pretty please Fanime people, open up the Masquerade registration :-[
we're waiting very patiently

Ok, then there's hope that its just my wacky settings....and they open sign ups earlier...highly annoyed here and tired. :-(
So very very tired...
It's either a system failure or a way to weed out the tired people and keep only those that are committed...but that seems awfully cruel
sucks either way >.>

Yeah I would say so lol
I'll go buy a few 5 hr energies if i have too. i'll pull an all nighter & live on those all day 2morrow 4 work! >.<
while waiting..i was playing pokemon and i wasted 5 pokeballs on catching tangela (sry so random but i just wanted to liven up the mood a bit here) :)
eating helps me stay awake but to be careful about eating junk food, im eating yogurt :)
XD you guys are funneh <3
this is very annoying though.... its almost an hour since they where suposed to put the reg. uuupppp <.<
Ooo... I love poke'mon. *has already played black for 57 hours >>*
Would REALLY help if staff would at least post here and explain to us how much longer we have to wait?
And April Fools is over already, so they can't pull joke stuff, lol.
i'm dressing up as arcanine for the masquerade! <3 yay for pokemon
yaaa you know you are on the way to calling in too if you have a computer screen head ache @_@ annnd yeah pull an all nighter- call in to work... on the fence of deliriousness! ^_^ @_@ WAH!
What do you guys think about using the video? Thats a cool feature! I have seen in work well with solo skits ^_^ we're opting out I think

lmfao! XD ohhh that just made my night/early morning
we filled 2.5 of all 6 pages just now ranting about waiting 4 the reg 2 open >.>
yes, yes we have and we should b proud of it! 8D
So there is no word thus far about anything?
"God Is Love, Love Is Blind, Ray Charles Is Blind, Therefore Ray Charles Is God"
another thing to keep us awake. (i thought i posted this cause i clicked post but it didn't go through?)
on the topic about the video portion, i think its great that we can finally utilize it.im just hoping that it won't take away from the focus of whats going on on the stage, since the screens are so far up and they would, in that position, tend to grab more of the audiences eyes away from the stage and up to there..
in some other cons, the screen was right behind them ON the stage and it worked almost even better because it was like a perfect background
Thank god i don't need to do anything tomorrow. I can just spend an extra HOUR waiting. unhappy it would be nice if they could just let us know whats up. :'(
I want to complain but I have a hard time coming up with something clever seeing as I'm so tired. Any ideas? :-\
*huggles lanie* i see u've joined the complainy party XD

i didn't because i figured we might all be bombarding them w/ emails or something >.>
I just have a feeling they will post it soon...i mean its 1:00 either that or they just aren't posting it tonight.
LOL omg I think we are all so fried and tired I don't think anyone had emailed yet?- I do not have any resources for the registration link like i did last year so I cannot post it to save the day @_@
If I remember correctly, last year they opened it up close to 2 am >>
It would really suck after all of this waiting if the people who wanted to sleep didn't get in, cause that wouldn't b fair
UGH NOOO!
lol, link is up, but it leads to 404 page - classy!

So anything interesting to do while playing the waiting game?

[edit] nevermind lol i saw the link now. oh brother. 404 great so i stayed up for no reason lol. and i have to leave for wondercon in 5 and 1/2 hours. @_@
I think the blue screen of death is woorse, that eats ur computer, while 404 just eats the internet
I don't think that's the real sign up page seeing as it was not one of the ones that was listed by Angel

my kids have colorguard competitions this morning so im usually the one that signs us up..im tired as heck tho..

I would love it if it worked that way, but it's not reality sadly
I was Vash the Stampede last year singing my own rendition of Lady Gaga's song "Poker Face" and called it "Donut Face". This year I'll be Albert Wesker with my friend as Excella and we're doing a special dance routine to a techno sounding song that is so hot, but I'm not going to say what it is. Don't want to give it away ;)
Also I just realized, they said they would "post" the link, but they never said the link would be working >_>..........<_<.........>_> then again why would they say they'd post a link, but it doesn't work? herp derp derp derp derp derp.........DERP DERP DERP DER DERP XD
this is not fair at all. so the people who are dedicated to stay up get tired and if we fall asleep there is a chance we wont make it. I'm not happy they should like have a way of marking down who was here so we don't have to worry. :(

HAHAH yeah I am sure she doesn't realize that the link is all messed up, especially if it is automatically posted by a program or the websmaster posted it without knowing it was all wack. ^_^ Marisa's team does a lot for us :) Once we're signed up we'll be happy. Come 2am I do suggest everyone who is waiting here to leave a nice email stating what time we were all here, your name, group name, how many people are in the group and your email- that way she knows who was here and your email has a time stamp:)
We're doin something steam punk- ^_^
Thats actually a pretty good Idea...I think I may just do that

*is really digging the gathering idea now* lol considering we've all been talking for about 2 hours now and we all seem to have something in common (obviously) XD
we could get our groove on~
BWAHAH I KNOW I will be awake at 2am saturday and sunday night... doing SOMEthing outside most likely at the fountains . Maybe it would be a hilarous ongoing joke from masqerade like (you lost the game, CHAIR and BOX!) only say "2 AM!"
^_^ Well! I am setting my alarm for 3am I think I will check every hour-

hey i'll make a deal with you guys...
if I do get a table...and you see the 2am sign and get it. and understand it and are able to describe to me in at least a sentence what it means, you get a free button i make that says... "2am" on it...<3
every one should have what ever they have the MC say followed by just a random"2am" at the end
It'll be 3am by the time the stinkin' thing opens...
But here's to hoping 2 am doesn't become 3 am???
have the Emcee set you up and say something about it being 2am-
Man we ar eall going to pay for staying up this late- I know my sign will be GLITTER ^_^
I'll be in artists alley :) I can do one there too! YEY OMG 2am BUTTON COOL!!!! ^_^ Ill give ya.. like.. candy if you come by HAHA

YES!
YES! haha i will so do that! have the MC paue look to the audience then say all dramatic: "2 AM" then go on.
Now lets just hope i actually GET a table...if I don't i'll just carry the buttons around...its not a breaking the rules is it? giving away free stuff? XD
The password is always 2am. 2am is how we will know each other. It will be magical.
Also... Buttons... *w*
Anyway it's actually 3:18 where I am right now (I can only imagine the people on the East coast... 5:18!) so I'm just going to send an e-mail off and hope that that does the trick. Maybe I can try again when I wake up early tomorrow. We'll see.
Good luck everyone and remember to take care of yourselves!
May the 2am group prevail!
i think if ubroke that rule it would b ok cause they broke our sleep sceduals

I've officially added 2AM to the MC part of my skit...XD
yeaaah their confirmation is nerve racking too- I think I was sweating bullets when I signed up- now if masq can juuuust fix the link! I dunno guys we're gonna slide into 3 am? this is rare for me!
once it hits 2:30 im leaveing. if I sleep on 2 late my parents will yell at me
I ended up emailing them my stuff in hopping they'd save me a spot.
whats the email? I'd love to do that for our group <3
If i'm correct its
[email protected]
well i'm sure if we keep comments like this alive on the forum, we're sure to stay awake long enough to see the link is fixed
sure we may not get enough sleep, but how else would we have come together like this and create a possible gathering at fanime of "2AM" people and thought of all these little things to do during the con that not everyone would get, kinda like an inside joke between all of us
K everyone! If you'd like to be in the "I waited until my eyes fell out" 2am + for fanime masq club maybe we can make it an official mailing list- then we can gather ^_^ and or pass out signs or arrange it for masq ^_^ I'me taking the laptop with me to sleep- then checking again sooooon BUT I don't think they'll fix it before 8am

Don't strain yourself doc.
I'm wondering about that concept of it won't be fixed until later in the morning--like normal morning hours.
If someone wasn't going to monitor the situation to be sure it was working, and provide updates at midnight, then next time they should not pick midnight to start this kind of thing.
Alright Email from me is sent. and i'm tempted to go to bed. i will by 3. i think i'm going shopping with my mom tomorrow to get stuff for prom...

Just wanted to say hi. I've been lurking but forgot that I had registered on the forum. :D
3 is my limit too. Got to bow out by then.
I heard that the person running it is just sleeping in, and doesn't really care. They did the same damned thing last year... bring the people back who ran it a few years ago! They didn't make us WAIT for hours on end! >: If the new person can't make it work right, then boot them. Don't lose participants because of someone being a lazy butt.

Although I love this update on the page: Masquerade Registration: Masquerade Registration is now open! Don't be late register for the FanimeCon 2011 Masq... http://bit.ly/fZE72Y about 45 minutes ago from twitterfeed

It has now officially been 4 hours. To those of you still awake, major kudos.

I'm sorry everyone, I have to bow out and crash. I'll be up around 7:30 to resume lookout again. Best of luck to everyone <3
i for one am not giving up
i'll stay up all night if i have to
i just wish that they would tell us the ACTUAL time the link will WORK
me too. i have work in an hour. but I'll sneak on to my ipod to keep watching.... >.>
Still nothing.. amazing- Hey! I registered for both fanime 2am :) 2am!! woo! that was weird looked like someone attempted to fix it? well I'll be back
Unless they ha some poor techie working through the night on this, it would have been nice if they would have at least told us we could go to bed. >/ Some explanation at all would be nice. I hope it doesn't just RANDOMLY go up now because that would be REALLY unfair. I have things I HAVE to do today, I can't sit by the computer. TTnTT
Hey everyone,
We apologize for the delay!! Marisa had a family emergency and the link wasn't able to go up in time. But it should be up soon and we'll take care of everyone who emailed us throughout the night.
Thank you for being understanding!
Hello everyone,
Casey and I had to take Wesley to the hospital last night because he wouldn't stop screaming. It turns out he has two major ear infections, and we spent many (many) hours at the hospital because it takes forever -_-
I was so completely freaked out (he literally was screaming at the top of his lungs and beating his head against us) that the Masquerade wasn't even in my head. I didn't remember until he started crying again this morning, about 20 minutes ago. I've only had about 3 hours of sleep.
I sincerely apologize for causing people problems and I wish I had a do-over to fix it. I can't imagine feeling worse about this. I am *so very sorry* everyone for wasting your time last night.
I am so sorry :(
It's up now.

Marisa
PS - if you posted here or e-mailed me... I will make sure that you will get a spot as long as you register today or tomorrow.
Again, my sincere apologies. I'm trying to e-mail everyone who e-mailed me as well.
Thank you,
Marisa
I can't get past the first screen to log in with my account.
I can log in and out of the Fanime.com website just fine. And there's no new email for me to "update" my registration.
Do we need to make up a new account for this or am I supposed to use the one I registered my badge?

Pretty much 99% of people who are pending will be approved. I need to look through and make sure no one signed up to be anything that's not permitted. I'll be working on this all day today.
Thank you,

I've approved most of the ones that came in. If you have "Pending" or "Problem" I sent you an e-mail about the issue. If you fix it / clarify, I'll approve it.
Thanks!

Hello~! I have a question for the age requirement of the Masquerade. My girlfriend is going to be in my skit and she's currently 17, but she turns 18 May 25. Do I put her down as 18 in the performer list or as 17?

I would guess 18. The same usually applies to when you're registering for a con. Take yaoi-con for example, if a person will turn 18 before the first day of the con, they would put 18 when they register.

That's fine. If a person is listed as under 18, I just ask for a Minor Permission form. That's about it :)
It is also used to track people who qualify for the Junior Achivement Award.

hi hi!
i was wondering if there is a reason to why something won't be approved. and would we perform in the order registered?
thanks!
I dunno about the first one, but the order that's on the website isn't the one that you'll be performing in. Last year, my friend and I were number 11 on the site but ended up being 37 at the actual masquerade but because of a large costume that my friend needed to get out of, we were moved to number 14 XD

Yes, this is accurate.
Basically, the position you get in the actual Masquerade is first-come, first-served. We reserve the first 10 spots or so for under-14 kids and huge costumes, but you can pick anything after that when you check in at the convention. So, if you wait until Saturday evening to check in, all the early spots will be gone.
Thanks!
Marisa
hi marisa!
thanks for your reply! we're excited!
Oh my. A lot of groups have been registered. Is it too late for my group to be registered?
And one of my friends would like to cosplay as her own original character. We checked the basic requirements and it says the costume must be from an asian film, etc. Do we really need to cosplay as someone from an anime/manga?
okay i have a question
my group and I are all signed up and everything, but we need at most 2 stage ninjas
could we get some that work at the masquerade, or do we have to get our own?
and if we get our own, do we have to sign them up for the masquerade too?

No. Generally the first 15 or so groups on the waiting list get in every year anyway.

if the *rest* of the group are anime characters, I don't care if you have an OC. However, the bulk of the group must fall under the rules.

You can either use ours, or add your own. If you add your own, please note them in the "Special Needs" box. They must also check in at con and get a registration sticker at the Masquerade Desk.
Thanks!

I just hadn't had a chance to check all of the skits. Everything has been processed now! :)
And, no, it's not in the order you register, it's going to be in the order that you check in at the convention. The only people guaranteed an early spot are those in a large unwieldy costume or have younger children in your group, or have some other special need. Otherwise, you will get a spot based on when you check in -- so if you want to go early, check in early :)
Question about craftsmanship judging! Just double-checking that it's like last year where we do not have to wear the costumes to the judging, merely bring them and all of our documentation.

Question, if my group registered this evening, and we are number 79 on the list, how likely is it that we will still be able to perform? if it's unlikely, then that might affect whether or not we can even try to make the skit happen.

So -- every year we have *at least* 25 groups drop. I've never had a year where people didn't flake in droves, even groups I usually consdier to be rock solid. People either don't finish their costumes, or find something else to do at the convention, or people can't make it due to emergencies, or (most often) the group has a massive rage fight with each other and dramatically quits never to be friends again. I'm so jaded at this point :D I've been doing this since 1998 -- and it *always* happens like this, at every single convention.
We usually end up with about 45 groups total at the actual convention who do everything they are supposed to do (show up, check in at the convention, turn in music/video, optionally get craftsmanship judging, and show up for the mandatory meeting on Sunday and the Masq itself).
So, we *STRONGLY* suggest you show up at the convention and turn in your music and get checked in, whether you are on the waiting list or fully registered. If you do everything you are supposed to do, you have a very good chance of getting in, and I can let you know for sure by 6pm on Saturday.
If you are a walk-on, you are also very likely to definitely make it in. The fashion show portion (at the start) is quick and easy, as all the craftmanship judging was done on Friday or Saturday, so we can usually squeeze a few more entries in here. However, display entries do only get the quick walk on, pose, walk off treatment. If we fill up the 50 slots and have 2-3 skit groups on the waiting list, we might be able to accomodate you, depending on how long the program is (for example, if everyone has 2.5 minute skits, it's unlikely, but if we have some 1 minute skits, etc., the overall time of the program can be padded a little bit).
So this is a long way of me saying "you have a pretty good chance if you check in". So come check in at the convention on Friday or Saturday! :)
Thanks!
Marisa

Check this file:

Second page, underneath the pink area. I think you want the "Proscenium Opening (49'9" x 30')" opening size as opposed to the actual stage size. That's basically the area you can see from the audience. Also, remember, we use mostly the front half of the stage for lighting reasons, so you should try to use the front half.

Let us know when you check in and we'll work something out for Sunday. I'll point you to Debra, my stage manager, and she'll work it out with you.
Confirmation e-mails just went out. If you didn't get one, let me know! They went out to Walk-ons, Fully Registered, and Waiting List people.
Marissa, have do we know for sure which side of the stage we're entering and exiting from?

Marissa, have do we know for sure which side of the stage we're entering and exiting from?
(you are looking at the stage from the audience perspective)
You will be entering Stage Left, and exiting Stage Right.
Thanks :)

So the same as last year? With large props over on Stage Right?
Yep, large props will be on the other side. Thanks!
Please note: we have people dropping out as stuff comes up! So far I've let 5-6 people in. If you're on the waiting list, you have an excellent chance at this point :)
Thanks!
Marisa
Is it okay for one group member to make a jewelry piece for another group member if we're in group craftsmanship judging?
Would that be against the rules?
Just checking before we violate something.

Absolutely fine. Group Construction is considered a team effort :)
We are trying to find the "Music Submission FAQ" referenced on the Fanime site in the rules section.
We want to know what formats and size requirements you have. Guessing that a cd submission is okay? Or what's this online submission that is referenced?
Please confirm this information here or get this up on the website?
Thank you!

MP3 or some other normal format (WAV, etc.) on a CD is fine and good. :)
Thanks,
