alright so I know I'm totally lame by starting my next year fanime costumes now but hey least I'll get em done
So heres my question
I'm cosplaying a Japaneses super hero from a manga series called Junk: record of the last hero
and so far I'm getting a full body unitard and i need to sow some things onto it for the design of the costume
how should i go about doing this
should I straight stitch them on and hope they don't rip or appliqué them or is there some sort of paint that wont have crack marks
please tell me how you guys would do this!
^_^ thanks so much
Applique still usually involves sewing unless you get fabric glue, or something I believe. What's the fabric made out of? As long as you have a sharp (non-snagging) needle, you should be okay with sewing right onto your...unitard? Is that like a leotard?
Fabric paint works wonders! And no, it does not have crack marks.
It all really depends on how you want your costume to look in the end with the different materials.
Urmm...it would help to have a picture of the person you are cosplaying as, and the materials you have available/are using to get a better idea of how I would do it myself....
its made out of spandex and the fabric i would sow onto it would be spandex and a unitard is like a leotard that covers the whole body cept feet hands and head (atleast thats the one im using)

best pic i can find
Hmmm...goodness. If you sew on spandex to spandex, I think that would be best if you want it all to stretch evenly. Again, I would be very careful with the needle I use though. It might be best to buy a new one to ensure that there are no nicks that could snag your fabric, and sew slowly, take your time. If you use an applique (unless it's made of spandex too) I do not know if it would stretch with your unitard all that well. <---This is all speculation as I've never sewn spandex on spandex, but I have sewn elastic and silk, both a pain in the behind if you're not careful.
Does this help at all?
yeah it does so new needle and just be carful
and i should be able to just straight stitch it on if its spandex on spandex coo ^_^
any other words of warning?
If elastic and spandex work the same way then I might suggest stretching your fabric as you're sewing it. Otherwise, when you try to stretch your unitard later (when putting it on) the stiches may make your add-ons too tight and snap your thread. Which will result in runs, snags, and all manner of headaches. V.V
ahg this is more complex than i need im half considering droping the costume for expenses and its already a night mare trying to figure this junk out
oh and i found out its made of nylon lycra
what ever that is
god i hate spandex
Don't give up before you've officially really started! Hang in there! >.<
Try practicing first and then working on your "official" one, so that you will feel more confident and know exactly what you are going to do! =D
i leave it towards the end of the con season i already have alot i need to do besides making costumes >_< i hate senior year at my school
But Senior Year is awesome! T.T At least, mine was.
But as you say, there is time enough left. Just don't forget about it and then have three days left to complete it. XP
thanks so much for the tips i will try my best ^_^
