Title: Anime Fan book being written
Post by: venka21 on August 21, 2008, 01:02:56 PM
I'm beginning a book about the anime fan culture called Anime Confessions:Anime Fan Culture through the eyes and experiences of anime fans.

It's going to have some similarity to the Chicken Soup for the Soul series as it will be a collection of Essays, letters, and other writings as well as pictures and possibly of anime fans from all over the world. I have out lined the book into 9 different sections, one section is supposed to be writings from Voice actors and other people who have made lucritive prospects involving the anime fandom.

Unfortunatly I haven't gotten the support needed for this project. Does anybody know any one who will be interested in working on a project like this?

Good luck with it.

You could probably go through books in the library as reference for the history part. Just make sure you cite anything you use.

I'm curious. Will people, whom you use "essays" of, share in whatever profits you make? Because so far, it looks like most of your book will be made up of other's writings.

It's supposed to be a collections of writings from anime fans of all sorts. All essays and writings will have have their authors name with it so I am not claming any of the writtings as mine. Also I will have an acknowlagement to everyone who submitted everything. As for profits share (assuming the book actually sells) I don't know if it would be possible to give everyone a cut. (I don't think Chicken soup for the soul actually does give the people who submit stories a profit cut either.) But I plan on donating at least half of the money used to groups such as Fanime Con. But only if the book actually sells.

I was just curious as I don't know how these things actually work.

That sounds very honorable.

Assuming you get decent publishers, it probably would. I don't think its as huge of a market as when the fandom was still relatively new to the U.S. (prior Naruto, etc.) but I'm sure there's still enough that would buy it. Mostly the people just getting into the fandom; most existing fans already know a lot and that push to learn more isn't as strong. Besides the normal consumer buying from bookstores, you may also be able to get business from other sources, like libraries. But its probably best not to expect to get rich off of these kinds of things or instant profit as things may sit on shelves till someone decides to grab it; even if most will go to donation. But you probably already know more about this kind of stuff then I. XD;

I dont know much about publishing and my writing skills are pretty bad.  However I dont see the harm in asking voice actors for a little support.  Most seem to have fan websites that they respond to so I would try looking for those.

My book has a website now. This will helo add writings with out them being read before the book is compleate. Also you will be able to see what writings have been added into the book so people don't end up accidentally sending two writings on the history of Japanese anime.

http://www.freewebs.com/animeconfessions/

There is a link for a forum but that currently doesn't go anywhere at this time.

I'm actually face book friends with Monica Rial and I have noticed she has several other voice actors on her friends list such as Colleen Clinkenbeard.
And Troy Barker

This sounds like a FUN idea!!

I've never read 'Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul' (was reading manga when that book came out).
