Well MET! my fellow Fanime Cospeeps! :)
Over the course of time things evolve and cosplay at Fanime has also. I am wondering who is planning to show off their new cosplay for Fanime 09? What is it? Who is it? What is the character from? I know that there are lots of cosplays planned by all you wonderful Fanime cospeeps, but what do you have new and exciting planned JUST 4 FANIME?
As for me... well I have debuted new cosplay almost every year I have attended and 09 is no exception. I plan on debuting Camillia & Bebedora from Arc the Lad (VG), Mature from King of Fighters (VG), and either Sir Integra Wingate Helsing from Helsing (Anime) or a character from BLEACH (Anime).
My list does not include the cosplay consignments I need to finish between now and then so there is at least 4 more cosplays that I know will be new ones. ;P
So post me and tell me all about your debute.

I'm trying to finish my costume for Queen Esther Blanchett for Fanime '09.
I may be also creating a C.C. (Code Geass) and/or a Maria (Vampire Knights) costume for '09 if I have time. ^_^
confirmed doing Luluko from Code Geass~
Boyfriend doing Suzaku for fan girl fun.
The Drunk Laughing Man, HE STUMBLES, HE BUMBLES and he wears a party hat to Celebrate 30 Years of Gundam.
I'm in a lovely fuzzy space right now where I'm trying to debut a bunch of stuff at Sakuracon, but it may wait until Fanime. Depends on what I finish up.
Izumi Curtis (Hagaren) and silly NEWS pirate cosplay will happen at Fanime, assuming all goes well. These will be done with my little sister, who'll be going as Ed. (We haven't figured out who from NEWS for either of us, but still ....) I also promised a certain someone I'd do a sleepytime Unohana.
Kaya Syokka from Trinity Blood and the Tasogare no Kishi cover version of Risai from Juuni Kokki/Twelve Kingdoms are planned for Sakuracon, but may wait until Fanime if things don't work out. Hopefully that won't be necessary, though!
I'm also vaguely planning a slightly silly cosplay in Sanada from Tenipuri, with hakama and tennis jersey. :3 That one's contingent on funds.

*LOL ^^) I originally planned on debuting my Izumi Curtis for Sakura Con 07, but I could not do it... then it rolled to Fanime, but I was so sick in 07 that I couldn't. Though I was disappointed that I didn't get the opportunity twice I figured it must have been for a good reason... Boy was it... I ended up debuting Izumi Curtis @ Sac Anime January 08 and I am glad I did! My friend did Sigu Curis and since I was then the Dir ~of~Prog I knew that Vic, Travis & Laura were coming! ... Wait... it gets better... when I was all done getting ready Vic took a picture of me as Izumi Curtis! Yeah! Seriously, he did. I thought that was the best thing that could have ever happened to a cosplayer. You know he must have seen a thousand Izumi's and he wanted a pic of me! It made all that work on the wig worth it!
Right now I am trying to make sure I have fundage for Sakura since girugamesh & Smile.dk have been announced to perform! Having it a month before Fanime is really tight financially for me.
Let me know after Sakura what will be debuted @ Fanime... ok?

Hmm...well I premiered my Alto "Hime" Saotome (Macross Frontier) cosplay at Otakon 2008 and I will be premiering my hopefully-soon-to-be-completed-zomgthestress T5 Priest (World of Warcraft) outfit at BlizzCon 2008. Maybe I'll get around to working on a UC Gundam Zeon uniform or post-time skip Commander Simon (Gurren-Lagann).

My sister swears she'll help me braid my hair for Izumi, because no way am I trying to make that happen with a wig when my hair's dark and long enough. :3 It'll be trade-off for doing her Ed outfit, because I know halfway through my arms will decide to give up. Those braids suck.
Funds for Sakcon ... yeah. It's home-con for most of my family, though, so it's a foregone conclusion that I go up for that. (I'm more concerned about my vacation time than anything else.) Good luck to you on trying to make it up, though!
And I'll definitely let you know after Sakcon what I've got that'll be new. :3
Lets see, if everything goes according to plan, I'll be debuting Noitora Jigura from Bleach and Arturo Plateado from Bleach:Shattered Blade, as well as a possible Thores upgrade to my Tres Iqus cosplay from Trinity Blood. And though it will already have made its first public appearance, I'll be taking my St.Dragon of Osiris/Slifer the Sky Dragon cosplay for its first convention appearance (plan to debut this one at Cherry Blossom Festival). hopefully I can fit in Crimson Viper from SFIV and I'll also be doing the awakened version of Yuuki Cross from Vampire Knight.
don't know when I'll find the time to wear them all throughout 4 days but ill do it somehow XD
Debuting Kaname Kuran from Vampire Knight~ :3 still thinking if i should get some fangs or not lol
Crown Clown Omega Allen Walker (DGM) Maybe something else too ^ ^
If everything goes well, I'll be still doing Captain Kisuke Urahara from Yukari's bleach gathering this year, but if it fails then I'm doing Gin Ichimaru.
Hunny from Ouran is still on Schedule as I know so far..
So is Gokudera from Reborn!
Belphegor from Reborn! is my Day Zero cosplay.
I am also planning a young Soubi or Ritsuka from Loveless.
Also Hikari/Dawn from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl would be headed for Fanime.
For the Kingdom Hearts Gathering, I'll be Deep Dive Riku. [Confirmed]
I plan on Debuting Gin Ichimaru at Sac-Anime in Jan. [Young Version] or Young Kisuke Urahara [Not Captain Version, before he was captain.]
Belphegor would be for Cherry Blossom Festival, SF [for when I go.]
Planning to debut Headmaster Kaien Cross from Vampire Knight.
(Also hoping I could get into the Shojo Beat Gathering too...if everything works out timing-wise/day-wise.)
And maybe Empire Abel Nightroad (artbook THORES version) if it's ready by then.
Well, since you're putting on the Weekly Shonen gathering, I'm going to have my Akabane (GetBackers) cosplay for that :D
Plus I'm planning on something from Eyeshield 21 and I'm glad I've got a couple of months to work on that.
And I'm hoping to have a new Bleach cosplay. Got plenty of other ideas, just need to focus ... :o
Well I'll have Seiren from VK going to Fanime and I'm also going to be making another meido-san.
Let's see...
I'll probably be debuting my Carrie Fernandez costume from Castlevania 64.
I honestly have grander ideas in mind, but Carrie seems the easiest on my list. :3
I really can't wait~! I'm so psyched about '09! <3
Well this year was my first time going to Fanime and I *Loved* it O____O!!!!!
I got to debut my Dark Sheik and Kai AND Dizzy there this year ^~^
I will be debuting @ Fanime 09:
Chelsea Tone (Tales of Destiny)
Kamikirimusi (SCIV) *Possibly but not 100 % sure*
Kai but with the huge cross bow :D (Heavenly Sword)
n________________n; Can't wait, can't wait! *hops around*
I am going to be totally unanime and difficult. I will have a full predator skinsuit, as opposed to what I had last year. (Arbitrator)
I may do some cyberygothy DJ SiSeN stuff, and a B&W thingy. Not sure yet.
Howl (Howl's Moving Castle)
Isabella (Paradise Kiss)
Reaper (The World Ends With You)
Lantis (Tsubasa)
...I think that's it...

I have.. a gamer belly. D:
*shakesfist at summer and MMO's*
Im going to try and aim for Shirosaki (hichigo) from Bleach, given that i have enough time/money/patience to make all the props for it.

- Leafeon - Pokemon
- Kikyo - inuyasha

And a lot more xD. There was a sale on sewing patterns, so I found a few that I can use ^^ . I'm so happy! this will be fun!
New costumes
*Gendo Ikari (skit purposes)
*Original character (1st venture into crossplay/trying to look semi convincing)
New to Fanime
*Katana - FF:Before Crisis
There might be more, but who knows what'll happen
Hiko Seijuuro, from Ruroken! Alongside my grandmothers first cosplay, Kenshin himself.
Cross Marian from D.Gray is my only certain, possibly Dr. Stien (Soul Eater), Kiel Hyre (RO), Megane! Kaito (Vocaloids). Might also bring my Canas cosplay (FE7) I plan to premier at Sakuracon and/or the USA/Canada (Hetalia) hopefully premiering at Otafest.
WOW! So many of you are going up to Sakura-Con to show off the new costumes! Would I be a bad person to hope that they come to Fanime 09 first :P I do understand it though *sigh if for any reason they don't make it to Sakura and you are able to do a Fanime debut please re post here later ^^)
It is nice to see all the new cosplays that are coming. As time progresses I am sure that more will show up here. As for me... well I am finishing up a few projects and then I will be on to Mature from KoF. After that I will repost and let you know... I might even include very small pics or at least a link to pics of them... we'll see :)
If anyone wants to post a pic of your debut cosplay for Fanime 09 please make sure it is small so that it doesn't take FOREVER to load a page ok. I would prefer links to your pics... no issues with that :) but make sure it is your debut for Fanime 09 not a repeat or something for another con please.
Sounds like I should get a couple more cards for my camera and shoot pics this year! *sigh.. miss taking pics *bigger sigh

'm hoping to debut my Link costume if I can get it done ^^; it's going to take some work. And hay, If I have the time, I might bring my Babylon 5 costume if it is done by then. ;D
I've never cosplayed before o.o;;;
The closest I've got was Halloween costumes XD But I may dress up as a Sith for a Star Wars gathering, so...we'll see XD You may just see a double-debut in that sense.
(but Halloween-wise, I'm doing Poison Ivy this year -- Batman Villains group)

First: Ragnarok is an awesome idea! I
love their designs!
and second :)
To lose the belly is going to take a little more effort, but a REALLY easy way to (at the very least) keep it away once lost is to just concentrate on keep you back straight. Try to focus on straightening your lower back especially, but by using your abdominal muscles. You'll feel them tighten right away (and you can still do things like play video/computer games for hours and hours).
It's especially easy to practice standing (so if you work as a cashier or something, that's how I got started).
I can't remember who the heck gave me this advice years ago, but it makes a WORLD of a difference without too much effort :) Good luck!
these are my debuts
うしのおねえさん-くまたんち
Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn
Tewi Inaba-Touhou Project
I re-debuting my regular Crown Clown XD
and maybe Zero (VK)
going to debut miroku from Inuyahsa, i am going to try and aim to either get zero or school uniform of Leloch done in time for fanime. and a possible 3rd costume of the SoulCalibar 4 star wars character "the apprentice". so yea hopefully i can get these done and balance my last semester of school at the same time @_@
I'm going to debut Shippuuden Naruto.
I am going to try to be Mai from Avatar and Mulan. xDD
Once I learn how to sew.
It's looking far more likely that I'll debut my Kaya (Trinity Blood) cosplay at Fanime rather than Sakuracon. With the way some plans are going, it seems like a better plan -- less chance for it to get dinged in transport up to Seattle or at con, etc. -- if I go that route.
if i can finish in time it would be fierce deity link ;D really looking forward to finishing it
I'll actually be Debuting this one at Sac-Anime but I'm taking it to Fanime all the same: Pearl from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney
I plan to debut my White Sweeper from Zetman at Fanime, but if another con comes first that I can go to... it might get shown there first.
Toushirou (Bleach), ouran version Sora, and if I can get the quote in time, PGSM Zoisite.

I just realized that I am going to try and Debut a Okita from Peacemaker cosplay. I'm hoping I make it in time for Fanime

Hello there Fanime cospeeps! ^^)
I added a poll to this thread so please be sure and vote! :P
So I am looking into a special project and I am looking for Fanime forum cospeeps who have been attending Fanime since 2004, or earlier, and have cosplayed every year since 2004. Please post here or PM me.
How is your cosplay debute coming along? I have been swamped with what seems to be everything else so it is making it difficult to get to my sewing, at least for the last month... but I do have the holidays just around the corner!

I won't be doing any new debuts this coming Fanime Con. However I am makeing my sister a Alvis cosplay. but saddily enough I don't think she'll be able to come to Fanime with me and my friends from Arizona. So more then likely she'll debut it at Anizona, on the of few cons here in Phoenix Arizona.
But I'll see about convinceing her to come along to all you guys can see how cute she'll be.
i may debut my Yuffie from ac cosplay at AOD in SF but i may do it at fanime. What the hell im doing is something i don't know.
Zexion from KH Chain of Memories
I'm planning, provided I manage to arrive, to cosplay as Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3 on day. Mikami Teru, Deathnote (Beleive it or not some people who watch anime and read manga have never heard of Deathnote), after I shave my beard off, and probably Red Shirt (Treckie joke here about wearing the red shirts and not having a name) Ninja # 6 from Naruto.
I see that 13 people have taken the poll and currently the results are that on average the cost is about $225.
When I first started costuming the cost for one character was about $175 but now I average $300. It is nice to see many people still in the $1 - $150 range.
Now I put in all materials, and from head to toe accessories ie wig, earrings, shoes, undergarments, props, gloves, and rings to name a few. When I am doing a character I try to be very accurate (If you saw my Izumi Curtis from FMA then you understand) no matter how simple the character.
That is for me, however if I am doing a consignment for someone else I try to get the very best deal on everything for the person I am doing it for. Cost is an issue for everyone (even me ^^) and when most people want a consignment (in general) they want quality and accuracy, but they seem to want the Wal Mart price instead of the Macy's price. They forget that there is time into the creation and they forget to account for the cost of making the cosplay.
This has left me pondering a question or two...
How important is accuracy to the character when you cosplay?
Is it good or bad to see someone cosplay a character inaccurately?
Would you help the person with pointers and compliment their attempt?
Thoughts to ponder *giggles
Squidges & Smootchies cospeeps... keep up the polling!
BSaphire
I admit readily to being neurotic about certain things when it comes to cosplay, but I try to keep in mind that different people do it for different reasons. Really, the most important one is to have fun -- that's what this is all about, right? :D
I try to keep that in mind when I'm looking at other people's stuff. Neuroses make it harder at times, particularly seeing things like unfinished hems or puckered seams, but there's a learning curve to cosplay (just like with so many other things). I had the benefit of coming into this with almost ten years of (admittedly lazy and somewhat sloppy) costuming/sewing experience under my belt, between theatre and SCA/Ren Faires, and I still had trouble with my first cosplays -- partly because I had to learn how to read patterns! If someone's new, and they're making an effort, I try to applaud as much as possible. If someone isn't making any effort, then it's harder. There's also community, and helping others is part of the learning curve -- I've learned a lot from my fellow cosplayers, and I like to think I've helped some in turn, and no matter how much you know, as trite as it is, there's always something new you can pick up.
But accuracy ... oi. It's a big deal, for me. I make some accomodations in my stuff, mostly because there's a certain amount of tailoring to one's self that's required in an outfit, and certain allowances have to be made for the fact that none of us are anime characters and can defy the laws of physics. There's also things like not being able to see detail, and having to interpret based on that, and I'm the kind that'll track down period references or the like when canon fails me (and rage when THAT fails in turn). To me, construction is the biggest thing in the accuracy criteria: how well you make it, and what you make it from. It's not necessary to go out and spend a hundred dollars on silk for a kimono, but on the other hand, flimsy super-shiny cheap satin that frays at the drop of a hat isn't a proper alternative. Skill level and budget are always important things to keep in mind when choosing a cosplay -- as important in their own way as whether you'll love it when you're done, because to me they influence that enjoyment so greatly.
(I can be a snarky accuracy-minded punk, but I'm even more neurotic about my own stuff. Seriously.)
For costume costing, my range has been between about $40 (for a costume where I only had to buy about seven yards of fabric, an old clock key, and some eyeshadow -- I had everything else on hand already) to over $300 (my current Trinity Blood project, for which I still need to buy the resin and moldmaking stuff -- on the other hand, there's a hoopskirt and Wonderflex and dye and veritable miles of fabric and lace involved in this). Don't even want to think about what they'd be if I were to factor in construction time -- I think that's one thing people forget about when they talk commissions and the pricing on those. Materials can be cheap if you're savvy or lucky; it's the labour that's the kicker! Neither of those includes a wig (unnecessary, for once!) or contact lenses -- contacts are actually the one area where I don't bother with accuracy, because my cranky, astigmatic dark eyes have enough trouble with just straight prescription lenses! Wigs and contacts and shoes will definitely bump the costing on any cosplay up pretty quickly.
... and I'll stop babbling now. If this made sense to you, or you read through it all, then I owe you a cookie -- I'm not even sure I was coherent through all that. :D
I will be Debuting Host club Kakashi no not Ouran hahaa
heya BSaphire~ I've been attending since 2004. PM me, I'm curious what you have planned!
As for accuracy...I'm extremely picky about the fabric I use. It has to make sense in that the garment has to drape correctly as well as the fabric needs to be a material that the character would actually use.
Recently I've been getting a little too over-the-top with this, but I do it because I like to (in a pinch or if it's TOO expensive, I'll go with an alternative that still works and looks good). For example, I'm currently on a hunt for 100% wool suiting from England for my Kuroshitsuji cosplay, just because Sebastian mentions that his tailcoat is "English sheep wool." ^^; (so far I've only been able to find some that's very subtley pinstriped, so maybe I'll go for that, or just use Italian. but no synthetic blends this time, since it's not historically accurate- setting is 1888.)

Konnichiwa Hellangel ^^) When I posted that question a little while ago, you were one of 4 peeps who popped into my head *giggles and I am sooo glad your curious :P
I see that you plan to attend Sac Anime... is that still a go? That would be a perfect time to meet up, but I will pm you with the details *shhhhhh B winks.... it's a secret that I don't want to reveal to soon ^^)
English wools compared to Irish and Scottish wools are about the same in texture and if your looking for a lot of earth tones I would suggest looking into those ..... hey can't hurt England did govern over them back in the 1800's and it would be a safe assumption that many of the wools available at the time came from Ireland of Scotland.
Well, I ~intend~ on debuting my Genjo Sanzo from Saiyuki Reload, if all goes well. If I don't make it up to Sakura Con, then Fanime will also be my debute of my Yu-Gi-Oh cosplay (either Mai or Malik, whichever i get done first). Also, more likely than not, a new Sasuke Uchiha oufit, possibly the crossover I intend on working on, and maaaayyybe Utena Tenjou!~
^^; I have so much to get done for Fanime...
I'll be debuting pretty much all of them, to Fanime and in general. MC (Persona 3), A.B.A (Guilty Gear), Viola Cadaverini (Phoenix Wright) and possibly Link (OoT). I'm going to be bringing a few of my old cosplays just in case though.
hellangel - you might try Britex in San Francisco for the English wool suiting. They carry quite a bit of material, albeit a bit pricey. Either that, or go into a men's tailor shop and see if they would sell you fabric directly (I don't think so but it's worth asking).
B - I love challenging myself to see if I can make a fairly accurate cosplay. I'll look at the anime, the manga, artbooks, google images on the web to see if someone has made a sketch that shows extra details or colors that I haven't noticed. Unfortunately my technical skills in putting the outfit together are a bit lacking. I don't plan out very well so I end up gluing after when I could have sewn first, redoing hems or seams because the measurement wasn't exact, adding a detail at the last minute to the outfit because I forgot to plan placement of it in the proper order. Meh, someday I'll have it all planned out step by step ...
I'll oft times choose a cosplay because I don't see anyone else trying it even if it appears to be difficult and beyond my skill level. I love fabric stores and looking at magazines like threads because I can pick up sewing tips. Mostly, the more cosplay I work on, the happier I am to be so busy (hopefully my friends won't see this because they may ask me for more challenging outfits in future!).
Oh, and re accuracy, I go more for appearance than true accuracy with materials. I need to wear mostly cotton/linen so I'll do my best to match color and texture rather than go with exact materials.
My costume schedule for Fanime '09 is rather chaotic. I myself am only debuting 2 costumes, but I'm making several others for my friends to debut. Very few of my friends have the coordination or skills to make their own cosplays, so they pay me for materials and I make them for them. So this is how it's working this year.
Me:
Freya - Chobits
Kushina Uzumaki - Naruto
Others:
Yuki Cross - Vampire Knight
4th Hokage - Naruto
Naruto - Naruto (pre-time skip)
Kyoko Mogami - Skip Beat
Ren Tsuruga - Skip Beat
Chii - Chobits
As you may have noticed, we are in sets. My friend and I will be doing Chii and Freya together for most of the weekend, and on one of the days 4 of us will be doing Kushina, Minato, Naruto, and Hinata (this one has already been debuted and my friend is borrowing it from me). We'll be a family XD! The 2 Skip Beat people are dating, so that should be fun, and the Yuki is part of a different group of VK cosplayers.

So how much do you spend on average per cosplay?
I hope that some of you will be at the Jump, Beat or Weekly gatherings! ^^)
It depends on whether the costume is for me or someone else. I tend to spend more on my own costumes than ones I'm making for others since most of my friends have rather limited budgets. For my own, I would estimate about $200-$300 depending on the costume (I get very picky about accuracy, so I'll spend more for something that fits better rather than go with something cheaper but not as accurate). For the costumes I make for others, I spend about $70-$120 since they aren't willing to pay more for some items or materials. Sometimes, if there's an accessory or aspect of a costume I really want them to have, but they don't want to pay for it, I'll give it to them for Christmas or their birthday. They've taken to describing me as a costume purist XD.

Welcome to the serious cosplayers ^^P Accuracy is important to every serious cosplayer I know and if you notice the higher amounts are starting to be selected on my poll then you understand why :P
Purist or Serious... ALL cosplayers are cool! Hey... any day is a Great day to COSPLAY! ^^)
Squidges

Well, this year is going to be my first actual time cosplaying, so it'll kinda be like my own debut, too. I'll be going as Rima Tohya from Vampire Knight, and I'm planning on going to both the Vampire Knight and Shoujo Beat gatherings, so see you there!
This is the first year, I am seriously making a costume and wearing it. I 'm making costumes of Princess Nuala and Prince Nuada from Hellboy2 for my sis and I. It not really anime or manga related but we love the characters and the clothing is very Asian in design. I am very picky on detail but my execution sometime is not very good, but you live and learn.

... & BLEED *LOL every great costume has cost me at least one drop of blood. Fanime 05 my daughter and I did a dozen new cosplays for Fanime (and in 3 months!) We were doing 6 -15 hour shifts at the sewing machine alternating our time. We went through two dozen bandaids and when it was all over neither of us could feel the tips of our fingers. In fact I had poked one finger so many times that it hardly would bleed when it got poked... it had to get stabbed! :P
Hopefully I can pull off Little Mac from Punch out by Fanime. The problem is finding green boxing gloves and buying them and spray painting regular ones aren't such a good idea when I asked my cosplaying friend.
For the first time- Relena Peacecraft. In the white outfit, her very formal dress one. It's going to cost a fortune. And I also intend to do Youji from Loveless.Wish me luck at getting all the money!
Debuting:
Princess Tutu (Princess Tutu)
Fem! Klavier Gaivn (Ace Attorney)
drag! Nnoitra Jiruga (Bleach)
Ah, I'm so proud. I adore Princess Tutu. My fem!Klavier is due to the fact that I can't make a drag!Kristoph since I can't sew well. TT_TT But, I've got a fem!Daryan coming along as well. And the drag!Nnoitra is my precious project, since I coerced my friedn into dressing as drag!Tesla. I'm so happy.
And my Mello will be modified, with a new rosary, an actual chain clip and matching buckle, and non-American chocolate. I hate plain Hershey's now, Halloween was a disaster. It's either him or a lolita outfit.
It can cost a lot or very little for a cosplay, given that I shop at thrift stores excessively and reuse old fabric, and reuse wigs. Princess Tutu will cost the most, as she's being built from scratch. I work for most of my supplies at my mom's store, and charm my way into the rest.
(Kakashi) - Naruto
(Kyouya) - Ouran Host Club
(Light) - Death Note
Kurogane - Tsubasa Chronicles (Movie Ver.)

Woot, a Gundam Wing character! 8D Oooh, I hope to see you there then! I'm going as Duo Maxwell for some of the days. :3 Good luck with your costumes!
And as a response for this thread, the only outfit of mine that is debuting this year is my loli-esque one. (I first wore my Duo cosplay two years ago.) I've never tried anything loli before, so hopefully I can pull it off. XD;; We'll see!
