Title: So where did we leave off?
Post by: JohnnyAR on September 22, 2008, 04:20:31 PM
QuoteThe Idolm@ster is a music game ported from the arcade to Xbox360™. The game lets players create and manage cute singing sensations. Choose from a number of available girls, dress her up in your favorite way, train her how to sing and dance and try to make a big star out of her.

Despite the short turnaround time to turn your girl into a star within just a few week, the home console edition now lets you produce your idol within one year. Also included are updated visuals, animations and new songs.

QuoteFor a videogame, the iDOM@STER is legendary. Not so much because it tackles a subject matter unheard of in this medium - a producer tasked with transforming 10 girls into national idols. Or, that it has spawned CD singles, radio dramas and various cute merchandise since its late 2005 debut in Japanese arcades. But because it left my younger brother impressed: "How come the grpahics so real?" The cartoon dollies' uncannily natural animation had clearly resonated with him. Mind you, this was the same young person who walked in on me during a Gears of War multiplayer match only to stand dispassionately as I tore two humans apart with a shotgun. before silently retreating to his preferred creature comfort, Maple Story. Now that I had his attention, I might as well conduct an operation hook, line and sinker. Off to a gruelling six-player audition we go!

Passing the audition - an exercise infusing, rhythm-based action with the realtime resource rationing of Football Manager - led to a stunning song and dance, which my brother watched with a pleasant glint in his eye. Careful not to startle my prey, I gently motioned for him to give it a try. "No thanks; I don't know Japanese," he amicably replied before turning away. What audacity! At least let me explain how entirely possible it was to enjoy the game without knowing a word of Japanese.

So its something of a rhythm music game but in a way its like a sim right?

It's not a rhythm game at all...

You play the manager. You raise an idol. You schedule her training, what kind of training, you give her pep-talks, and stuff like that.

It's a game that most people would hate playing, because it's super slow, you do almost nothing, and it's all about the bond between you as the producer and raising your idol to be successful.

I beg (http://www.idolmaster.jp/game/top.html) to differ (http://www.idolmaster.jp/game_l4u/top.html).

What kind of game is that?

The only game you should have a 360 for.

Hey, everyone has different tastes and besides if it wouldn't be very successful if it was released the US.

What the hell is the point of quoting another thread's dialogue and utilizing it somewhere else?

Technically, Live For You is a rhythm game. It's true that the original isn't.
