Since Kimu demanded I post this. ;P
Juuni Kokki, also known as the Twelve Kingdoms, is an awesome series that exists both as an anime and as novels -- the latter more recently translated by Tokyopop, the former done a while ago by ... um, someone else. It is also a series seldom cosplayed, so this is a stretch, but ...
Last year, there was one.
This coming year, there are going to be at least two -- Kimu's bringing her Sairin back, and I'll be bringing up my Risai. I may have some folks coming down from Seattle, but won't know for a while yet.
So it's a stretch, but is anyone else going to be cosplaying it? If you are, it would be awesome to meet up and get some photos -- obscure seria need more love! (And if anyone out there knows of the series and recognises us in cosplay, that's awesome too -- those people seem to be almost as rare as the cosplayers themselves. :D )
Thoroughly Tentative and Sloppy List
Charis ~ Risai (formals or novel cover)
Kimu ~ Sairin (formals)
?Rai ~ Kyou-ou or Taiki?
?Tige ~ Kyouki or Gyousou?
?Yuu ~ Shoukei (third outfit)?
?capeswirlinggirl ~ Renrin or Kourin?
I'm sooo torn!
I love ..antyhing relating to ancient ( ro slightly old) China most of all the costumes, but dammit if I get it into it taht will just be one more costume. I have a hard enough time with two!
and now i have...
Renji
Mini-Byakun
Kanda
chain-smoking Ullquiorra
and just been roped into hobo-Viral
..this is already too much madness! >-,
Yeah Charis!
You did it! You posted a thread for JK/TK!
I am very happy.
Yes, I'll be back at Fanime with Sairin.
Well, given how the AX group is exploding, one can always hope, right? :3
(Yuu needs to learn to sew so she can do more cosplays. *RUNS LIKE HELL*)

Sure, you can hope all you want, but bribery has a much higher success rate. >D
* evil grin* Oh, I have a sewing machine now. Don't understand the instruction book, but I do understand "pointy metal object"
Well, just to be proper and all ... as evidently two of my Seattle family will be coming down and probably bringing Juuni Kokki (at least, I will assume so until I hear otherwise) ... Risai, Sairin, either Kyou-ou or Taiki, and either Kyouki or Gyousou (personally, I'm expecting Kyou for both).
We're technically up to four. Kimu, think it's worth putting us on the list tentatively? Not that this will be like AX's group, of course, but ...
If we know we have our 4 minimum, then let us be posted!!
And maybe, if we're really lucky, maybe someone else out there we haven't met that has a TK/JK cosplay might join us.
That would be awesome. One can hope!
*posts and slogs through the end of work*
I've been watching, nit in order though, I get the impression it is a much less Shoujo-ey Fuusihigi Yugi.
Secondly, there don't seem to be a lot of main characters, none that really stand out to me anyway.
Does anyone havean idea of whom I could go as?
It's really not shoujo, despite the main character being female.
But as far as who you should do ... hmm ... I'm bad at this. And you don't like wigs, right? You should ... totally pester Tige about who to go as. *RUNS*
(No, seriously, I'll think about it, but I really am bad at these sorts of things.)
Knowing what I do know of you, I think maybe the character of Shoukei could be fun?
She's a princess that goes through some rough times when her parents are killed and she's banished from the palace. While on the run, she has a lot of 'attitude' and the costume wouldn't be too hard to make. So easy to make and you could really have some fun cosplaying it, too?
See what you think, and it'd be great to have you join us!
BTW...I am kinda thinking that we want to avoid Saturday and Sunday for our little gathering with so many groups setting up stuff on those days.
Timing: I was thinking vaguely of Monday off the bat, since we're such a small bunch and Monday is lazy, but we'll see how things fall out as it gets closer. It'll depend partly, I'm sure, on when folks are flying out as well.
(And Yuu, now that Kimu mentions her, I think Shoukei would be fab for you. And I'm sure Rai would be thrilled by it -- Kaasan too if you brought her to a con she'll be at. :3 Shoukei's third arc, which means interactions with the characters those two cosplay.)

I looked her up and I would like to cosplay as her but I have never cosplayed as a girl. I don't know if I could pull it off, especially if she is young. >_<
I couldn't find ANY pictures. Do you know off-hand which episodes she is in?
23-39, according to ANN.

Maaan almost perfect, but 'Kaa-san says her hair is blue. If not for that, I wouldn't have to do a thing with it. But I'll still give a trey.
What colour's your hair going to be? o.O Because really, black is close-e-bloody-nough in my book if you really don't want to wig things.

Ah, I have no pictures and was just told 'blue'. So imagined a lighter blue but blue-black is doable, if that will work.
It depends really on whether you're going by the anime or the novel colours. Her hair's more powder blue on the novel cover (http://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/345263), but it's more of a mid-dark bluish purple to deeper blue-grey to blue-black in the anime art (http://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/311144).
Depends on how crazy you want to be to totally accurate or have fun with it.
Personally, I think if you have dark/near black hair, that would suffice to convey the character.
Or we can go character hunting if you want a crossplay, too.

I think I'll go with dark blue. I need it to be that color for Kanda, anyway. As for Byakun-teenagers are always dying their hair stupid colors. XD
Yea, looking for male characters would be fine except that most of them are just a pretty as the females. So it would make little difference.
That's right, I'm double posting. What're you gonna do about it? XP
First of all a big 'thaks a lot' for getting me hooked on yet another long ass anime with which to waste my time and money wishing I had the money to buy the anime/manga.
Secondly, I watched nearly the entire series yetserday and I don't know what to think fo you two saying I'd make a good Shoukei..so I wont. I'll just blinldy go along with it. XD
So add me to the list. ( provided of coarse I CAN get A costume)
Well, I certainly can't take any...credit for getting you into this series. You posted in here after someone else started that.
As for cosplay choice, you wanted something simple enough to do, and some of the costumes are very elaborate. Shoukei has some versions that aren't insanely challenging to do.
And I thought Shoukei had a lot of attitude and spunk, and might be something you could have fun with cosplaying. Being (banished) royalty with a chip on the shoulder...couldn't be anything even remotely at all like mini-Byakuya-kun?? hmmmm
You can blame Seattle family for getting you hooked. Totally not my fault. :P And at least with this series you're only looking at novels and anime, and there are but two novels out in English so far, so that's not too hideously expensive.
(And I concur. Shoukei has that attitude you do so well as Byakkun, and her peasant clothes aren't too hard to sew. Plus, knowing you and your hatred of wigs, hair colour was a bit of a limiter. The only other dark-haired characters that spring to mind are either far too young (e.g. Taiki) or aren't snarky enough for you (e.g. En-ou).)
I will put you down as tentative, yes?

Ahaa I never thought of it that way. But now that you mention it..
You see I was only half paying attention. I was watching it while making Taiyaki for 6 hours straight. It was worth it, everyone loved it.
I digress..just a little.
I want to do her thrid outfit. Her Hobo clothes would not be flattering on me. Do either of you have colored pictures of that outfit? Preferably skecthes like the one haris showed me eilier?
Put me down as " or die trying'.
Dammit, I already missed out on Kanda cosplay I'm NOT missing another.
Death for cosplay is absolutely forbidden. JUST SAYIN'.
If you die trying, then I would be forced to ressurect you (in an utterly blase fashion) just to yell at you, and that would be so much effort. Do you really want to make me go through that? Cranky Charis is no fun.
(If you can't get things done for Sakuracon, talk to me while I'm up there. I'll be up an extra day before and a day after con, so there might be some time in there to help you out.)
As for pictures ... I'll see what I have when I get home tonight. *fist-shakes at work*

Then put me down for certain. You didn't say anything about murder for cosplay. XD
Okay, thanks. I THINK it's the third outfit. I don't like the one she has towards the end end when she is with Suzu and Kei. In fact I think she looks crappy in general. Too young and girly.
It's the one before that when she was working for that..Kyou..I think.
Sweet! You must come hang out at my place anyway. ( You two Kimu!) I live above owajimaya so it's hardley out of the way..though it is small.
I's double posting again! Wut now. XD
Aaanyway I actually would like to do Shoukei's 'hobo outfit'.
The problem is that there is nothing I hate more than my tiny-ass bird legs and I refuse to show them. It wouldn't be SO bad except that hobo-obi would make me look ever fatter.
You two are good at making costumes, yes? Do you know any..tricks to fix these issues?
well...cosplay is also about tailoring....
if you want to hide more of your legs, you could bring the skirt part down a bit further so only your ankles showed?
And if you don't use too much fabric in the obi, make like real thick and heavy, then it won't overdo the widening look...?
Oooo...now that there is a potential gathering I really need to get my but in gear so I'll have time to make a Juuni Kokki costume! Put me down as a tenative for one of the kirin. I'm thinking either Renrin or Kourin since there is already a Sairin ;D
hmm...I may have to start pestering friends. I've a few who keep talking about possibly cosplaying Juuni Kokki but just never get round to it *runs off to pester people*

*flails* We might have another kirin? Oh,
awesome! There was faint hope when putting this thread up that we might see other Juuni Kokki cosplayers, so seeing you post here makes me super-happy!
I'll put you down for tentative, then, and will hope for your success! (And yes, spread the awesome that is JK cosplay to others! Good luck!)
Oh, wow, I never even thought about doing Juuni Kokki because I assumed it would be too obscure but now I am tempted.
Oh, obscure can be fun. I was the only TK cosplayer at Fanime last year, and only a couple people had any idea.
It was fun.
Join us if you want to!!
We might be just large enough to be the 'largest most obscure series gathering at Fanime 09'?
:D
Seconded -- obscure can be awesome fun!
I got to cosplaying Juuni Kokki because my kaasan up in Seattle pushed for it, and I'll admit that when I started I never expected to see anyone outside of my family doing it. But once you start, it's amazing how you seem to find others doing it -- and it looks like we'll have a grand group come AX this year as well, if everything works out (in the event anyone from here will be there).
It'd be lovely if you do join us, Kandybar -- and if not, hope to see you around at Fanime. It's always nice to have people recognise what you're dressing up as, particularly when it's something less known.
Double posting 'cause this is pretty much a dead thread (as doomed as most of the JK 'verse? :P ), and I'm 99% sure we won't have the numbers for any sort of official gathering (which is okay):
Sounds like Kimu and I are gonna do this on Friday. If anyone else happens to, that's awesome, but if not -- as said prior, we'll hope to see people around! :)
*Siiiiigh* I wont be joinging you/ Dont ask why, thinking about it will just anger up my blood.
On the subject of obscurity- I went to SC as a VERY rare character but I got quite a few pictures. Only two actually knew the chaarcter. The rest just really liked the costume. That alone is something to be porud of, I think.
Okay...I won't ask why, Yuu. Just be sad for you to miss hanging out with us.
And yes, Friday seems quite reasonable as the majority of the gatherings are happening on Saturday and Sunday.

Dont worry, Ill meet you at the gathering-provided it doesnt get in the way of Bleach or D Gray shoot (becuase dammit I AM going as some version of Kanda even if it kills..someone else)
You just wont have a Shokei. I can still be angry if you want. >P
I think Charis and Kimu already know this, but I won't be cosplaying Juuni Kokki at Fanime this year :(. I'm having problems with my Kraehe cosplay (which I have to have done as I have long standing plans of joining my friend in a Princess Tutu cosplay for Fanime 2009) so I won't have time to finish a second. But I'll look for you on Friday to say hi and will definitely have Renrin done for next year :P
