Hello, I've only been to Fanime once before in the past and my friend who came with me was wondering if you could walk around barefoot. Trust me I know it's not a smart idea and I'll make sure she brings shoes (and band-aids). Heaven forbid someone with 6 inch heels steps on her foot.
Thank you ~ Sephroe Zion
No you are not allowed to walk around barefoot for exactly the reasons you pointed out.
Some people might for cosplays, but mostly it's shoes/flip flops or whatever.
Walking barefoot in any public space is typically not allowed let alone the SJCC. I'd point out the whole "No Shoes No Shirt No Service" signs you see everywhere, except I don't know if/how that would apply to the convention center.
Something that is widely recommended for barefoot cosplays is always clear flip-flops. Besides, think about all the walking you'd have to do on the concourse. If you got something protecting your soles underneath, I guarantee you that your feet will be thanking you for it by the end of the Memorial Day weekend.

Really??? I don't know. It looks sort of expensive to make, especially on the details.
You could walk around barefoot (I've seen people do it before) but I would suggest bringing shoes... you can always take them off for pics!
Considering the
boss of the people that would be telling you to put on shoes just said that you may not be barefoot, I would listen to him.

In that vein, are we allowed to walk around in ballet shoes, foot thongs or other dance footwear?

I have no idea what a foot thong is, but as long as you are not Bare-Foot, then yes.
For those of you who saw people walk around barefoot, they were probably told by Rovers staff to put on shoes. I know that for a fact.

Flip-flops. Why are you so lame, Steve.

A-Actually they're like sole-coverying things.

;_;
Unless you wear something that covers the bottom of your feet, I think that qualifies as "barefoot"
Guys.
Ringworms.
Wear. Shoes.

Oh, my bad. I assumed flip-flops, as thongs are pretty much their synonym if you aren't talking about panties and the like.
Steve is still lame, though.
There are many types of nude ballet shoes that give the appearance of being barefoot. Like the picture above but some are a full shoe too. That's the best bet I can give.

Me too but if shoes are required go with tennis shoes. It's more authentic then flip flops

Excellent, excellent, all according to plan...
I'd agree with wearing shoes instead, but what about stockings?
Might I suggest...if the character you are cosplaying as is typically barefoot...walk around in flip-flops, or de-laced tennis shoes, and then if asked to pose for pics, take them off for the pic, then put them back on when needing to walk some more. I believe that would be ok, right?
Next year I plan on going as Dark Rukia. She's barefoot but I plan on wearing regular shinigami shoes.
Jiraiya's Geta shoes hurt like b!@#h...but I guess I can deal. FOR COSPLAYING! XD
would socks but no shoes be considered as barefoot?
then why not get skin/tan colored socks? and then draw toes on them?
i dunno just an idea.
again better safe that sorry.
ring worms = eeewww = swine flu = bad mojo. :P
If I recall from working other non-anime Cons many years ago, the policy for San Jose city property was:
No bare feet. (It's difficult it is to get blood out of the carpeting.)
I speak from experience... I have a crescent shaped scar on the bottom of my right foot where I stepped on a broken bottle that was burried in the sand at Davenport Beach... That was back in '83 and it took 55 stitchs to close it. It was deliberately place in a way that someone would eventually step on it. Now I always wear shoes at the beach.

As a infant I somehow made my way on to the stove and, do to the stove having a push start button, hurt my foot severally and had 3rd degree burns on it. I have a now barely visible scar because of it.
And I remember all the times I walked barefoot in the country side I used to live. Stepped on several rusty nails in my day.
Yes, Barefoot is definitely a bad idea in outdoor situations, as well as inside.
